Personal note: Trying to add more emotion into my work.  It’s really easy to stay cool and objective, especially in 2014 when that’s the aesthetic.  It’s such a fine line to try and walk, because a narrative in photography can make work so cheesy, sentimental, or obvious so quickly.  But, it’s a worthwhile challenge, because what if you can do it well? Then you could write your own goddamn ticket in this world.

Sticky will be at the second annual Other Worlds Zine Fair, taking place this weekend in Sydney. ‪#‎otherworldszinefair‬

Other Worlds was created as a critical response to the MCA Zine Fair, and held at the same time, because their venue (Museum of Contemporary Art) is sponsored by Transfield – the same company awarded a contract by the Australian Government to run detention centres where asylum seekers are mandatorily held.

Many zinesters did not want to be part of an event that would create cultural validation for a company whose profits partially derive from detaining those seeking protection from abuses of their human rights. So an alternative was formed, and this year Other Worlds includes a weekend of workshops, talks, screenings and other zine events.

The zine fair takes place at Glebe Town Hall on Saturday 23rd May, 11am-4pm. Facebook event here.

The fundraiser for Other Worlds will be active up to the start of the festival, and you can follow on Tumblr too.

I made a last minute decision to go to Sydney for Other Worlds, and I’ll be having a stall there and selling zines, prints & stickers etc! Come along to support your local zine makers and artists, and to show the MCA that their link to a company that profits off the human rights violations of refugees seeking asylum in Australia is unacceptable!
