“And I hear my body answer: —What will I do with this spark that believed itself the sun and this breath that believed itself the wind?”
— Dulce María Loynaz, from Poem XXXII (tr. by James O’Connor)
“I instructed my actors to follow the rules of the time. Nobody could touch each other until it was a really meaningful moment, because then it would be so much more exciting when they did.” - Autumn de Wilde

My final painting using acrylics for #brushtober week 4! I wanted to try some more dramatic highlights and shadows before wrapping this week up, so I found a ref image with some cool lighting and painted this. I worked on a larger sheet this time and my brush strokes are a bit looser as a result. This was by far the hardest medium to work in so far! It was such a struggle to find my workflow in acrylics, but I feel like I finally found a way to make it work by loosening up a bit. This final week of #brushtober I am going to use gouache, which I’ve been super excited to try!

“i could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; i would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. i would know him in death, at the end of the world.”
sing, o muse, of the rage of achilles, son of peleus, that brought countless ills upon achaeans — the iliad, homer.

Hey guys, you might have heard of the devastating fires in Australia - I’m horrified by the immense destruction that has taken place. I created this piece for a fundraiser run by Procreate. The profits raised from the sale of this print will be going to 2 charities: The Red Cross Bushfire Appeal to support firefighters, volunteers and victims, and the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors who are taking in wildlife from all over Australia.
If you like this piece, please consider getting a print - you’ll have art for your walls and you’ll also be donating to a good cause! Purchase the print here: https://fireappeal.procreate.art/prints/loish
“None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else.”
— Keanu Reeves
