BATIM Arc 1.
Chapter 1. Chapter 2. Chapter 3.
Chapter 2. B&W Rough Models
“My name is Henry.” the older man introduced himself. “And your friend just died in the worst place possible.
Died…
Hailey died… saving me.
“Oh… I’m Sorry about your friend.” the older man apologized. “But it's not safe, we need to press on.”
I grab Hailey's little red backpack. She's always been so small that it looked perfectly her size.
A mini backpack 5 pounds heavy with a sketchbook, pens, pencils and other art supplies, now stained by the black liquid that took my best friend away.
I hug it.
I follow the strange man with the axe, because, do I really have a choice?
I can't climb out of this hole. Maybe there's another way out.
We walk into a strange room, it has coffins, lit candles, a boarded door, and a weird circle thing in the middle.
“Don't step on it, it'll make you pass out.” Mr. Henry told me.
So I avoid the black circle on the floor.
“So… what were you and your friend doing down here?” he asked while chopping the boards off the door.
“We… Hailey's Dad found a building in the middle of their woods, and we decided to explore the building that just… kinda appeared.” I explained. “...My name is Joy by the way.”
“Hm.” he said simply as we walk down the creaking stairs.
A couple wood boards fell down from the ceiling… it kinda scared me, but Mr. Henry didn't seem fazed.
And keep walking until we see a wall with some writing on it
It says on it ‘HE WILL SET US FREE’.
Beneath it on a thin shelf is some more lit candles, a Bendy photo, a bowl full of something, and a can of bacon soup.
On the floor there's a banjo with an emptied can of bacon soup next to it.
Guess it's somewhat safe to assume what's in the bowl.
We walk a little more into a much bigger room, we see two more coffins, another weird circle, some sort of machine connected to the wall, and another shelf holding some sort of tape recorder… or is it a tape player?
“How did this place get so big” Mr. Henry seemed to ask himself.
Only for a moment later make a loud groan.
“I thought with somebody else here the script would stop.” he complained. “Or at least change.”
“What… script?” I have to ask.
He sighed.
“Okay… how much do you know about time loops?” he asked.
“I know that, it's whatever somebody repeats an event over and over and over again, it's a common cliché in sci-fi and fantasy media.” I explain.
He looks a little shocked that I knew that.
“My friend… a different friend, Annie, is a real sci-fi fan” I explain how I know the cliché. “If you mention anything about alien's, she'll talk to you for hours and hours on end”
“Speaking of that… How did the Space race go?” he asked with genuine curiosity. “I know it's been at least a few years since I've been up there so... Has that ended yet or have we not done it yet?”
…What.
I googled the answer just to be sure (holy crap my phone is still working down here).
“Sir, the Space race ended on July 17, 1975. When… did you come down here?.” I can't help but ask.
“August 31st, 1963. Oh God, I've been in here for at least 12 years.” He facepalms at the last bit. “By the way what is that little box you have in your hands.”
“It's a phone sir.” I tell him a little matter of factly. “A way that we can call people and find information on things we don't know.”
“It looks like it's from the future,” he stated. “Like from that Jetsons cartoon I saw before coming down here.”
“How far in the future do you think we are for you?” I asked.
“I don't know. Time just kind of lost all meaning after a while.” he admitted. “What day is it?”
“... June 12. 2019. Technically the first full day of summer vacation.” I told him, hesitantly.
He gained this far off look.
“I've been in here for… for-” “almost 56 years sir.” I interrupt doing the math in my head.
“No wonder it looks like it's from the future. you are from the future!” a small bit of rage comes out of Mr. Henry. “Is Joey Drew dead?”
“What?”
“Use that weird little phone of yours and find out if Joey is dead or not.” he asks, a little bit irritated.
He's not mad enough to think that he would hurt me, but still a little bit angry.
So I popped ‘When did Joey Drew die?’ into the search bar.
“January 9, 1971.” Is all I felt like I had to say.
And it's all he needed to hear.
He grabbed a chair and threw it across the room, where it smashed into the wall.
“Really, REALLY!? after the hell you put us through, as your partner, as your employees, you just DIE!?” He screams at the ceiling. “YOU TRAP US IN THIS Eternal Torment FOR 56 YEARS!? and you just die like none of it mattered, like none of US mattered!”
“ALL THOSE ALL-NIGHTER’S, ALL THE TIME AWAY FROM LINDA!!!” he shouted at the top of his lungs. “I CAME BACK TO TALK TO A FRIEND, AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS… this SHIT!!!”
“You said ‘I should have pushed a little harder!’ Pushed you into being a better person! BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TOO!” The rant continues. “Why do you lie? You lied to me, you lied to them, you lied to the press, you lied to EVERYONE!!!”
He starts stomping over to the other chair, sat down, and laid his head in his hands.
“I’ve always been your best pal, but you were never mine! And this proves it.” he whispered, his voice is horse and indescribably tired.
“… Are you… ok?” I ask the pointless question.
I already know the answer.
“*sigh* No… not really.” He answered, Unfortunately I'm right. “But that doesn't mean we can't get out of this Hell hole. You're here, new, different and an unpredictable variable.”
He breathes, gaining a determined air around him.
“We press on, Something has to change.” He reaffirmed. “It already has.”
And with that he walked over to the tape-thingy
“I still don't know where he is, at this point I think he's in the walls.” he whispered.
If Annie were down here she'd probably say ‘he’s in the walls. HE'S IN THE GOSH DARN WALLS!’
He presses play.
“He appears from the shadows to rain his sweet blessings upon me.” A male voice speaks through the speaker. “The figure of ink that shines in the darkness. I see you, my savior. I pray you hear me.
“Those old songs, yes, I still sing them. For I know you are coming to save me. And I will be swept into your final loving embrace.”
“But, love requires sacrifice. Can I get an amen?”
The tape turns off the click.
“Creep-” “I said, can I get an amen?” a new voice interrupts me. I looked around to see where the source of the voice was coming from.
Oh, that's why Mr. Henry says that he thinks he's in the walls.
We walked down a hall. Which leads into another one, this one is ink-filled.
Ink dripping from the ceiling down to the floor, flooding the space we're supposed to walk.
“Step carefully.” Mr. Henry warned me. For stepping into the black liquid.
I step in it too and it is cold, ice cold. It's a little slick but at the same time like stepping through glue. Seeps into my socks making that I'm cold and wet in the worst way possible, worse than rain and worse than the snow.
We keep trudging our way through the hall, until we see a figure. I can't make out what they look like but I know they're taller than me.
“Hello! Excuse me! Can you help me! hello?” Mr. Henry says in that automatic tone and the tone switches “Shit! Help us Sammy please.”
We keep walking and get out. He looks over to where this Sammy guy went only to find a dead end to the hall.
“Where the hell did he go?” the weird automatic tone returns. “Damn it Sammy, if you're hiding in the walls.”
We turn around and go to the opposite side of the hall, there's a strange looking metal panel on it and it looks like it's connected to this garage door. Is it blocking us from getting out?
Across from the garage door is a stone Bendy statue, it feels off.
“Need to get power to the gate somehow. should be a couple switches nearby. Then maybe I can open it.” Mr. Henry’s automatic tone returns once again.
“Dang, is the script really that invasive?” I can't help but ask.
“It gets better later on.” He tells me. “But we need to backtrack a little bit to go forward, okay?”
“Cool.”
So the backtrack. We go to the shelf that is next to the spot the strange guy disappeared and put the switch behind the cans, go to the back to the big room and find another switch right on the wall, and finally we have to get close to the coffins in the room and flip that switch too.
We go back to the garage door and flip the final switch. And the garage door, Lifts, making the room shake
We go through a small hall where Henry has to break down some boards on another door. Where we find another big room.
“It's really dark in here.” Mr. Henry (being Captain Obvious) stated.
The wall in the room says music department, with awards put on to the wall most of them are to a ‘Samuel Lawrence’ other's to a ‘Jackson Fain’ or sometimes, both.
Another tape on a small shelf, right above a trash can.
Press play on the tape.
“So first, Joey installs this ink machine over our heads. Then it begins to leak.” Oh it's this guy again. But he sounds much more… sane. “Three times last month we couldn't even get out of our department because the ink had flooded the stairwell.”
“Joey's solution? an ink pump to drain it periodically. Now I have this ugly pump switch right in my office. people in and out all day.”
“Thanks, Joey. just what I needed. more distractions a stupid cartoon songs are going to write themselves, you know.”
“Dang, that's inconvenient.” I had my thoughts.
“Yep, Joey's always inconveniencing our lives for the sake of his convenience.” Mr Henry spits out. “It's just like him.”
We explore around more, and we find a ink flooded stairwell.
“Looks like the stairwell is flooded. If I'm going to get out of here, I'll need to find a way to drain it.” Henry says automatically, Rolling his eyes.
Ah, The script kicked in.
He then pulled a switch and the other room lit up.
“Hey, whatever you do. stay behind me.” Mr. Henry tells me before holding his axe upright with a determined look.
And a big glob of ink dropped from the ceiling. And turned into a person… half a person? It's black but human shaped? no wait, that sounds wrong.
It's… they're made of ink and crawling like a mermaid on land.
POW, POW,
Mr. Henry hits them twice and they disappear.
Oh crap, a second one. Just pops up from a puddle in the corner of the room.
This time he takes the head clean off, finishing whatever it is.
This onslaught continues until the job is done. If I counted correctly there was seven of them.
And once they were gone, a weird cheery tune started playing over the speaker.
“What were those?” I ask.
“Searchers. They were people before they were sacrificed to the Ink.” He tells me. “Unfortunately your friend will probably be one of them.”
“Oh…” that's depressing thought. “I hope she's not.”
??? pov
Cold. Why is everything so cold?
I feel myself hit the floor. At least I think this is a floor. I can barely see, the majority of my vision is filled with this bleached yellow color.
Oh my glasses, I don't have my glasses on.
I lightly graze my hand over the floor until I tap my glasses. Mom would kill me if I lost these.
I put them on and my vision clears up perfectly. And dang no wonder my vision was filled with yellow. The entire place is yellow… wait a minute, I'm still here?
Ugh, something about my body is off. Not wrong necessarily, but off.
I feel something (?) brush the floor.
I look where that is, but I can't see it.
I'm apparently now wearing some sort of poofy black dress.
I grab the dress and pull it away from the back and see…
A small spaded tail.
I reach my hand out to it (oh my God, what's wrong with my hand?) and grab it.
I can feel it.
I use my other hand to touch the top of the Spade. And yep, I can feel that too.
Now what's wrong with my hands.
1…2…3…4… where's 5?
I have only four fingers on each hand, and I'm wearing familiar gloves. Two black oval spots on the back of each.
I took my glove off and saw that underneath is very much the same, (why am I so pale though?)
I take a breath and run my hand through my hair, my hand bumps into something.
I grab it, it almost cuts me. But I can say that's a part of my head. Thin and sharp on the outside, but thick and blunt on the inside. I check the other side of my head and yep same thing in the same spot.
Are those horns?
I check the rest of my head and good news, no other horns are on my head, strange news my ears are longer. Bad news I have no idea what I am.
I look behind myself.
And see a big stone Bendy statue.
Wait… is that what I am?
A demon.
Or kinda.
I have horns and a tail, a SPADED tail at that.
How did I end up like this, what is my last memory?
“TellmyfamilyIlovethem!”
CRACK
Ah…
I can't help but touch the place on my upper back that hit.
So… I'm dead, but not.
More importantly.
Where's Joy?
Joy pov
We walked down a long hall, a small hall branching off into ink flooded infirmary.
I read the sign
Notice:
Anyone found faking illness will be docked a full week's wages.
not sick. not paid.
“Oh, he was that kind of asshole.” I accidentally left the thought out of my mouth.
“Yeah, he treated all of us very crummy when we worked here.” he confirmed and didn't say anything of the accidental swear.
“So Miss Joy, how old are you?” He asked in a dad-like tone.
“14. I'm going into High School in the fall.” I answer simply.
“Huh, A little young to be adventuring through a haunted Animation Studio.” He said with a little bit of humor and his voice.
“Well, to be fair I had no idea about the haunted part until you said it.” I shrug my shoulders.
We get to the other side of the hall where there seems to be an office, on the other side of a pool of ink, and the door is being blocked by a shower of ink coming out of the pipes like it's on a harsh hose setting. like the kind that kind of stings whenever it comes into contact.
“Well there's the pump switch all right.” Mr. Henry got a little closer, probably just to say the words. “But that's one hell of a leak blocking the door though. Could stop the ink from flowing, maybe I could get in.”
He then walks over to the other side of the ink pool. Grabs another tape player on a tiny shelf, brings it out and pressed play.
“So I go to get my dustpan from the hall closet the other day and guess what?” a different voice plays on the speaker. He has an old New Yorker accent. “I can't find my stupid keys. it's like they disappeared into thin air or something.”
“All I can think of is that they must have fallen into one of the garbage cans as I was making my rounds last week.”
“I just hope nobody tells Sammy. Because if he finds out I lost my keys again, I'm outta here.”
“So I guess that means we look in the trash cans?” I ask.
“Yep.” was Mr Henry's only response.
Office, no keys. Office #2, no keys.
DOOOOOOOOMMMM
The loud noise rattles through my bones. And Mr. Henry really looks genuinely confused and a little scared.
“The hell..?” what's the only thing he uttered before rushing out of the room.
A new door is open, look down to see a giant pipe organ back of the room and just before it…
A small, black haired girl, who has horns and a tail, paper white skin and big round glasses.
She looks at us with cautiousness, then a big smile appears when we made eye contact.
“JOY!!!” she bounced and ran closer.
How does she know my name?
But Mr. Henry put his ax in front of us in a defensive stance.
“Oh hi… Joy, who's he?” She asked me.
“Better question, how do you know my name?” I asked the newcomer.
She gave this indescribably confused look.
“Joyce, I've known you since we were five. I'm pretty sure I know my best friend.” she said almost condescendingly. “So in case you couldn't guess, it's me, Hailey Betty Stine.”
She looks like a cartoon version of Hailey, so… what do I do?
But Mr. Henry's face changed whenever she said her name.
“Stine..?” he whispered.
I give her a suspicious look.
“Prove it.” I challenge her.
Her eyes oh so subtly drift over to the only male in the room.
“*Snort* Are you 100% sure you want me too whenever he's in the room?” she asked me. “Most of these things I've been sworn to secrecy about.”
“I'm not leaving.” Mr. Henry protests.
“He can stay.” I confirm.
She breathes in.
“Ok.” She said simply.
“You peed the bed until you were 7, you have a consistent black hair that keeps on popping on your chin no matter how many you yank, you thought a boy liked you until you found out that he had a lazy eye and you want to own and operate a coffee shop whenever you're older.”
…Oh… wow. She went straight for the jugular.
“…Welcome back Hailey.” I felt embarrassed.
“Oh… yeah, I probably shouldn't have heard all that.” Mr. Henry nods and understands.
“So!” Mr. Henry said before clapping his hands. “We should press on and find those stupid keys.”
The next minute is quiet, and a little awkward.
“Sorry Joy.” Hailey apologized.
“No, I asked for it.” I remind her (and myself).
Mr. Henry found the keys in the trash can in the main room underneath the recording sign.
And we walk back to the outside of Sammy Lawrence's office.
And on the opposite wall of the pool of ink is a door.
That must be the supply closet.
Mr. Henry opened it.
There wasn't anything much, just some bacon soup cans and a tape player.
He presses play on the tape player.
“Every artistic person needs a sanctuary.” Oh, it's this guy again. “Joey Drew has his and I've got mine. To enter, you need only know my favorite song.”
“The Base fiddle sings with deep articulation.
The Drum thunders in triumph.
The Banjo playfully plucks.
The Violin shutters of the piercing voice.”
“Sing this song and my sanctuary will be open to you.”
“Base, Drum, Banjo, Violin. Base, Drum, Banjo, Violin.” Mr. Henry repeatedly says as he swiftly goes down the hall.
“Well I guess we should follow him.” Hailey says. “Don't want to lose our tour guide.”
Oh, so she's already picked up that he knows about this place.
“Yeah.” I answer simply before we follow the older man.
He stopped in the main room, still repeating the order of instruments.
“Okay, I'm going to need you girls to go into that room,” he points to the room that's next to the recording sign. “and when I tell you to. Play the bass, drum, banjo, then violin.”
“Neither of us know how to play any of those.” I tell him, Hailey nodding in agreement.
“You don't have to play them, you just have to make a noise with them.” He said before booking it to a separate area.
We walked into the room that he pointed us towards. It looks like a recording studio, with an area for a small orchestra.
Above it there is a balcony, or two separate balconies. One looks like it's purpose is for a projectionist. The other looks like it's meant for… guests? There's nothing on it but… maybe it was meant for investors?
Henry appears on the projectionist balcony.
And gives us the motion of 3… 2… 1… and then there's a loud clicking noise up there.
“Go!” he shouted a little bit.
Okay. I got the base, Hailey got the drum, I got the banjo, and Hailey squeaked the violin.
Then we heard something open up.
“Girls don't go in there until I come down, okay?” Mr. Henry asked.
“Ok” I answer back.
“Sure” was Hailey’s answer.
We looked around the room while Henry is coming down and we found another tape player.
I pressed play.
“It may only be my second month working for Joey Drew,” it's a girl's voice this time. “but I can already tell I'm going to love it here!”
“Oh really seem to enjoy my Alice Angel voice, Sammy says he may be as popular as bendy someday.”
“These past few weeks I voiced everything, from talking chairs to dancing chickens. but this is the first character I have really felt a connection with. like she's a part of me.”
“Alice and I, we're going places.”
“Is that Susie Campbell?” Hailey asks. “The original voice actress for Alice Angel?”
And not a moment later he's down here. And we go into the ‘sanctuary’.
It looks like a little bit of a storage closet. A big storage closet, meant for instruments and spare parts and stuff. But a storage closet nonetheless.
That is until I see the toilet on the back wall, right above a weird circle thing, and above that is some writing on the wall.
Sing a happy song,
whistle and marry tune,
wait for his arrival,
He's coming very soon.
Yeah that's weird.
So Mr. Henry goes over and twists the valve that's close to it.
“Thank you.” Hailey and I stay in unison. Neither one of us wanted to get close to a gross toilet.
“No problem.” was Mr. Henry's only response.
You start walking back towards the recording studio and a Bendy cutout popped out of nowhere, And retreated back.
Weird.
Mr. Henry grips his axe and looks like he's ready for a fight.
Only for the moment we walk out of the ‘sanctuary’ a bunch of Searchers just pop up out of the floor.
Is an overwhelming number, they keep pushing us back and Mr. Henry's the only one with the weapon.
I look at Hailey, to see if she has any ideas.
Ink is dripping off of her but it looks like she has one.
“STOP!” Hailey's voice became strong and commanding. (And a little scary.)
And the Searchers did, in fact, stop.
“Can we pass, please?” her voice was strong and unwavering.
And they made a path.
“I guess that works.” Mr. Henry said what we were thinking.
We caustically walk through the path I look around and catch a glimpse of a creepy figure before he walked away, and we walked through the door.
“Did… anyone else see the Creep on the balcony?” Hailey asked.
“Oh, I didn't notice, over the fact that you can communicate with those things.” Mr. Henry said. “How can you do that?”
“I don't know, I just did it.” was her only response.
“…Okay, also the ‘Creep on the balcony’ was Sammy Lawrence.” He informed us.
“Ah.” I respond.
“Who?” Hailey asked.
I explained while we went to the previously ink filled infirmary. It's empty and we can now enter.
It's one large room but feels cramped. A lot of old medical supplies, one bed frame with a pillow, and too much ink to be sanitary.
Another Searcher pops up.
“Hey.” Hailey waves to it.
It didn't attack. It just… watched.
“Oh no, there's no valve. Where did it go?” Mr. Henry automatically said, rolling his eyes.
“Oh yeah, I haven't told you about the Script.” he tells Hailey. “I'm supposed to repeat the same events over and over. You're new and Joey's dead. So you are an unknown factor in this hell.”
“Oh… ok?” Hailey doesn't know what to do with that information.
Henry flipped a switch they said ‘Utility Access’ and we follow him down another flight of stairs.
We get down and see a hallway open up, and on the far wall the word's ‘Down here we're all sinners.’
We walk towards it and come to an ink river.
We go left and see another Searcher, and this one has the valve and a hat.
When we got close to it, it ‘ran’ away.
“Was that thing holding my valve?” Mr Henry said without thought.
Because most of the thought was going towards breaking the wooden boards blocking our path.
We continued through the path and there's more writing on the wall.
‘The sheep will come to slaughter.’
“No, thank you.” I say aloud.
“Same.” Hailey agreed.
Further down the hall is a little nook with paper spilling out. It has a tape player.
I go onto the platform and press play.
“I love the quiet, and that's hard to come by in these busy times.” A new voice plays.
“And yeah sure it may stink to high heaven down here. But it's just perfect for an old lyricist like me. Sammy’s songs always got some bounce. But if I don't get away every once in a while, they'd never have any words to go with them.”
“So I'll keep my mind a-singin’ and my nose closed.”
“That was Jack Fain.” Henry tells us. “I'm pretty sure he's the Searcher down here.”
“Oh, that's… good to know.” I answer, as I got back down.
We walk further into the ink flooded hall and come across a big room with two round machines. Each with a switch that has an up and down arrow.
Mr. Fain is in the middle of the room, and there's words written on the wall behind him.
‘Sing with me.’
Mr. Henry goes over to the left switch, and flips it. It pulls up a platform with a crate on it.
But something about the way he's moving is wrong.
“Mr. Henry, what are you doing?” I ask.
But he doesn't answer.
His eyes look wrong.
“Mr. Henry, please talk to us.” Hailey asked.
We can see him chase Mr. Fain underneath the platform.
But Hailey gained that determined look on her face.
The one that says she won't quit.
Henry has reached the other machine and is reaching his hand out for the other lever.
Hailey grabs his arm, ink dripping from her hairline.
“Hey!” She shouted in his face. “What are you doing!?”
He looks like he was just taken out of whatever trance he was in.
“What..?” He looked at what he was about to do. “I'm supposed to use the platform to… crush Jack.”
…
“Yeah… we're not doing that.” Hailey stated then pointed at the wall with writing and the dripping stopped. “But we are doing that.”
Hailey pov
“But we are doing that.” I point at the writing on the wall.
“Singing?” he asked.
“Yes, it's not like he's asking for gold.” I reason, if that's all he wants. “If you won't do it I will.”
He doesn't argue.
So… Mr Jack Fain wants a song.
How about a kind song.
“Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes
In her own special way to the people
She calls, ‘Come, buy my bags full of crumbs.’”
It feels like a fitting song.
"Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do
Their young ones are hungry, their nests are so bare
All it takes is tuppence from you."
A little bit of kindness…
"‘Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
Feed the birds’, that's what she cries
While overhead, her birds fill the skies.”
Can go a long way.
“All around the cathedral, the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares
Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares.”
All he wants is a song.
“Though her words are simple and few
‘Listen, listen’, she's calling to you
‘Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.’"
What's the point in denying a simple request?
“Though her words are simple and few
‘Listen, listen’, she's calling to you
‘Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.’”
I finished the small song and the ink creature seems a lot happier.
He willingly gave me the value wheel.
“Thank you.” I try to get across.
The way he looks is happy. I really hope I did make his day a little bit better.
On our way out, I felt my shoe bump into something. (Can I use my tail to pick it up?)
I try and fail before I just pick it up with my hand.
It's a small black scythe.
Well… Henry shouldn't be the only one with a weapon.
I put it in my bag and make sure it won't cut anything.
And we leave the room.
“Mr. Henry?” Joy asked. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah… I'm fine” He answered. “I'm sorry, the Script took over. Thanks for snapping me out of it.”
“No problem.” I answer.
We get out of the Ink lake and walk up the first flight of stairs. The Creature from earlier is now cleaning the infirmary area to the best of his (it feels like a him) ability.
“What's up doc?” I greet him.
If I'm this cartoony already, I don't see any point in not joking about it.
He waves and continues to clean.
“Here ya go, Henry.” I give the value to the old man.
He looks a little weirded out by Doc (that’s his name till further notice, fight me). But he still put the valve on the pipe and twisted it.
We go up the second flight of stairs and walk around the corner to go over to the office of ‘Sammy Lawrence’.
We went in and Henry flipped the pump control lever.
“Ok girls, I'm going to need you to be careful.” Henry warned us. “Run if you can.”
“Ok.”
We all go down the hall cautiously stepping from one floor board to the next.
Once we got to the end of the hall, I felt something hit the back of my head. It hurt a little but nothing.
…
I wake up with my head pounding and a terrible taste in my mouth.
I look at the only moving thing in the room. Oh, it's that weirdo from the balcony. great.
The thing in my mouth tastes like dust, Ink (why do I know what that tastes like) and fabric.
Did… did this lunatic gag me?
I bite at it, grind my teeth against it, anything to get it out of my mouth.
The Inky man is tying Henry and Joy to the pole to my left.
I can see them stur awake.
“There we go now, nice and tight. We wouldn't want our sheep roaming away now, would we?” the crazy Ink man ‘asked’. “No, we wouldn't.”
“I must admit I am honored you came all the way down here to visit me. It almost makes what I'm about to do seem… cruel.” he commented. “But the believers must honor their savior. I must have him notice me.”
“Wait. You look familiar to me... that face…” he looks at Mr. Henry. “Not now. For our lord is calling to us, my little sheep and lamb.”
His moment of clarity died as soon as it popped up.
“The time of sacrifice is at hand! And then, I will finally be freed from this... prison. This inky... dark... abyss I call a body.” he hoped.
“And you Little Demon.” Oh crap, he's paying attention to me. “Your voice, it commands the Ink itself.”
“I could feel your orders down to my soul, it's very persuasive, but I can't have you leading the Believer’s astray from our lord.” the crazed man tells me.
I hear something banging around, but I can't figure out which direction it's coming from.
“Shhhhh! Quiet! Listen! I can hear him. Crawling above. Crawling! Let us begin. The ritual must be completed! Soon he will hear me... he will set us free.” and with that he walked away into a separate room.
“Sheep, sheep, sheep it's time for sleep. Rest your head, it's time for bed.” he started what sounds like a nursery rhyme over the speakers. (Like the one right off my head, ow.)
“In the morning you may wake. Or in the morning you'll be dead.” He continued.
“Hear me Bendy! Arise from the darkness! Arise and claim my offerings!” he tries to summon, as the room began to shake.
“Free me! I beg you!” He does in fact, beg over the loud speakers, then we hear a screech.
“No! My lord! Stay back! I am you prophet! I am your- AAAAHHHH!!!” The crazed man screamed as the garage door on the other side of the room opens.
And some Searchers pop up.
“HELP US!!!” I scream. “PLEASE!”
Henry snapped out of his binds and picked up the Axe, while the Searchers un-tied Joy and I.
“Come on girls, let's go!” Henry yelled, as our ropes are broken.
“Hide!” I tell the Searchers and they do as we run into the hall that just opened up.
Henry is busting through wooden board after wooden board.
When he hit the last board, the axe broke just below the axe head and we see that there's a new hallway to the left.
It's blocked off by junk.
So we keep going straight, and come across a pool of Ink, and at the end of it, there's a door.
Could it lead back upstairs?
But the moment Henry stepped in it, the tall Bendy-thing sprung out of it. And an earthquake shakes the studio around us.
We start running back and see the new hallway open up and we start running, trying to outrun the artificial shadows.
Hall after hall, turn after turn we keep going, But…
I'm falling behind.
We see a door, a open door.
And Joy
Started to slow down, getting next to me
“Consider us even.” she whispered loud enough for me to hear.
What.
I feel the full weight of Joy's duffle bag hit me in the back and sling me forward into the room.
Henry ran into the room and the door closed and a board went over it automatically.
And heard Joy’s scream.
I shoved the bag off of me, and ran to the door and threw the plank.
No. No! NO!!!
I open the door and run after the friend-napper.
I refuse to run away from him anymore.
Joy pov
I'm holding on to a wooden pole as the Ink Demon tries to pull me off.
“Nonononononono!!!” I beg the beast. “Please let me goooooo!!!”
Somehow the halls get EVEN DARKER.
The lanky cartoon stopped pulling… why?
“SSSSRRRREEEEEEEECCCCHHHHH!!!” I hear from the hall in FRONT(?) of me.
Only for a moment later an even taller beast came running in my direction.
My grip loosens.
The sign of weakness is all my captor needed to pull me off the pole and he started to RUN AWAY from the other monster.
But something about the chasing demon is familiar.
A small red backpack is on her back
So I reached out and Hailey reached back.
But my captor picked up speed and got right back to the pool of ink. Opened a PORTAL MADE OF INK, And jumped in with me.
I look around and see a small room with a hallway and old elevator doors.
“Oh my God… *Breaths in, Breaths out* What the hell was that?” the Ink Demon said aloud.
It can speak?
“You can speak?” I decided to vocalize my question.
Meanwhile Hailey pov
What!?! No! Joy has to be around here somewhere! I bent down and fell around on the ground underneath the pool of ink.
I checked the rest of the room, every nook and cranny even checked the exit door, I felt my legs give out as my rage cooled. I feel like I shrunk… and I'm tired.
So tired…
I can hear footsteps… but I'm so exhausted… I can't move.
They go into the ink pond now making a splashing sound.
“Oh Hailey it'll be ok, Bendy won't hurt Joy… I promise.” Henry talks in a kind Dad tone of voice.
Then, as if I weighed nothing, picked me up and held me piggy back style.
And he walks through the halls and goes through a few doors, until I hear a can (?) roll on the floor.
“Hello? Someone there? I know you're here. come out and show yourself.” Henry tells the unknown being. But something tells me he knows exactly who's there.
I muster the effort to look where Henry's looking.
The figure that we see looks like Boris the Wolf.
“Boris?” Henry said automatically.
But the name Boris doesn't feel right
As if snapping back to reality Henry jolts and gasps a little.
“Buddy!” His voice is happy.
Buddy… he looks like a… Buddy…

Chapter 1
Down the pipeline
I squint my eyes, the blinding sun somehow made its way through the layers of branches and leaves. Made all the brighter through my glasses.
“AH-CHOO!!!”
“Goodness Joy, allergies definitely hit you hard this year.” I can't help but feel sympathy for my best friend.
“Oh it's not that bad Hailey, remember spring a few years ago?” Joy reminds me, while she puts up her long brown hair into a braid.
“Yeah… not much can top that.” I remember that time well.
It was so bad that she always had a full tissue box in her backpack at school, and by the end of the day she would be low, if not out of tissues entirely.
“Anyway back on topic, are you sure your dad found a whole ass building in your woods?” She put us back on the thing we were talking about.
“Yeah, he said it was old and rickety, and by all means we can look at it and just be careful.” I told her what Dad told me.
It's a little weird that an old building is in the middle of the woods, my woods, behind my house. This land has been in my family since my great Grandfather… great great Grandfather… the Grandpa who moonshined during the depression.
If this was here, why didn't we know?
So that's why we're here, walking a dirt road made by countless truck outings to cut wood. The trees on both sides of us give us a nice cool path through the sweltering summer sun.
It takes a few more minutes to see a pretty little clearing with soft grass, a creek and a small drop off to the west.
The only thing that looks out of place, is an old yellowing wooden building, with a..?
“Is that Bendy?” I point to the top room.
Why would there be that old cartoon character plastered on this building?
“Yeah..? Why is he up there?” Joy asked too.
My eyes fall onto the door. Something feels weird about it.
“Is it weird that it feels like it's, I don't know… calling me.” Joy asked me with a concerned look on her face.
And to be completely honest,
“I feel it too.” I nod looking at the yellow door.
If anything, it feels kinda like we're 5 years old and you're not supposed to touch the full cookie jar on the counter.
Like there would be consequences to grabbing a cookie.
But Dad said it was ok to look inside, Mom had no problems and Joy’s Dad said why not.
So why does it feel like that?
“Do you still want to go in?” I ask.
Joy nod's, “We walked all this way, it would be kinda a waste to not look inside.”
And so we walked over and onto the porch, and I stepped in something wet.
I look down and see a black puddle. So I squat down to see it.
“Don't touch it.” Joy whispers. She has always had good instincts, instincts that saved my butt countless times.
So I get up and we open the door.
And see a hallway with that black stuff covering the floor and half way up the walls.
“Well, it looks like we won't be able to avoid it.” I shrug.
“Ok… but at least watch your step.” Joy asked as she pointed at a hole in the floor.
We went around said hole, and (because Joy said to) avoided the puddles.
The entire place is old paper (parchment?) yellow, and the black stuff… is it ink?
What else could it be, it can't be tar (it moves fluidly.)
Some places are blocked off by crates and the black liquid making water (ink?) curtains.
“Yeah… Joy, I think this is ink.” I tell her as I rub my blackened fingers together. Honestly getting some of the stuff on us wasn't a matter of if, it was a matter of when.
“Are you sure?” she asked.
I look in front of myself and see a sign that goes through a list of places, one of them is called ‘the Ink Machine’.
“Pretty sure.” I point at the sign.
“Hm…” she too, read the sign. “So… what's a Ink Machine?”
“A machine that makes Ink, I can assume.” I told her. “but… why would they have something like that in here?”
So we follow the signs, the halls look even more decrepit then the room we were just in. The farther we go the more the wood is cracked and ink is flowing more easily.
We turned the corner and there's a big metal pipe with a ‘watch your step’ sign on it.
Useful.
Joy steps over it, while I have to put a bit more jump into it. (Dumb genetics, only making me 4 foot, 11 inches. The pipe goes up to my knees.)
There's wood boards and scraps littering the black stained floor. We turn another corner and see a big room.
We walk inside.
In the middle of the room there's a big unfamiliar machine that is dripping ink. (Ok so that's the Ink Machine). It's hanging over a pond of the black liquid that is just under the platform we're standing on.
There's something about it that just piques my curiosity.
Wait…
Something in the ink is moving. Fast.
It stopped just before it hit the platform.
And something tall, really tall, bursted out. With it a moving shadow flooding the room.
He's(?) tall and lanky and looks malnourished, OH and has a Bendy like head.
Is he really tall, or is it because of my crappy height perception?
“Eek.” Joy squeaked as her face became pale. “RUN!!!”
She grabbed my arm and pulled, making me follow her.
We start running back down the hallway.
“Aaa-oof!!!” Joy tripped over the pipe on the floor.
“SREEEEEEEECCCHHHH!!!” is the noise coming from the other room, And quickly coming closer.
I look around.
“Weapon Weapon Weapon Weapon Weapon.” I really need something, anythin-
…
That'll work.
He's coming.
I grab a wooden board and swing with all my strength. And hit him right up the side of his head, where the other side of his head hit the wall.
Joy got up and we continued running.
We see the exit.
Crack.
The hole.
We forgot about the hole.
And we fall.
I grab onto Joy’s back.
“TellmyfamilyIlovethem!”
Joy pov
A painful noise filled the room.
I scrambled off of Hailey.
She isn't moving.
I prop her against the wall, looking for anything.
“Hailey, wake up. Please, you need to wake up. I'm worried.” I beg. “Hailey…”
“HELP!!! PLEASE SHE NEEDS HELP!!! HHHEEELLLPPP!!!!” I yelled out, praying someone could save us, save Hailey. “HHHEEELLLPPP!!!”
“Hello?! Miss? I'm coming to help, please hang on!” I hear a man’s voice from deeper into the studio.
Sounds of things being shoved and broken fill the halls and then some footsteps come closer and closer, until I see a… black, white and yellow older man that gives off Tired Dad/Tired Grandpa energy.
His face filled with hope… and then dread.
He walks up to Hailey and feels her pulse… and shakes his head.
“Sorry miss… but it's too late for her.” he told me as he stepped back.
A moment later the weird ink gets closer to Hailey, covering and consuming her until all that was left was her little red backpack.
What… what just happened…
“My name is Henry.” the older man introduced himself. “And your friend just died in the worst place possible.
