not just a scratch (from Becca)
send me ‘ not just a scratch ‘ for your muse to catch mine trying to patch up a wound in secret…
"How long have you been standing there?" Bucky asked the moment he noticed a figure standing in the doorway. He didn't need to turn around to know who it was. The only person who could see past his pretense. The only person who could tell that he wasn't as fine as he told everyone he was.
He knew there was no point lying to his sister and still he did. For the simple reason that he refused to let his younger sibling see him vulnerable and weak like that. And yet there they were and knowing his sister better than anyone, he knew she wasn't going to leave him alone anytime soon.
"Don't worry about it. I'm fine." Bucky shrugged, trying to wave her off even though he already knew full well that it would be in vain. She wouldn't believe him and he couldn't blame her. "....or going to be, at least. Been through worse. Trust me."

Well look what the cat dragged in.
You miss me that much sweetheart?
It was supposed to be a sarcastic comment but the longer he listened, the more he realized that every word Brock said was true.... that everything he'd just spat out as a retort was really more than sarcasm. It was notning but the truth, whether he liked it or not.
Bucky had really felt lost and alone ever since his escape from Hydra, he'd just never thought that going back to the way things used to be while under their control would ever be an option. Without the endless torture and murders of more or less innocent people, of course. Just going back to a time when he didn't feel so damn overwhelmed with...well, everything.
Maybe that would help him more than trying to move forward on his own those past months ever had? A stubborn part of his mind hated the thought, but what was there to lose?
"I believe I just did. You're absolutely right." He reminded, eventually, frowning at how vulnerable he sounded and felt, but still tried to hide it with a shrug of his shoulder. "Happy now?"

[text - Steve]: Do you believe in love at first swipe?
It was the worst thing to say to someone you just matched with in a dating app, Bucky knew that. And he'd never meant to send that text, but unfortunately his phone had a mind of its own sometimes. Or maybe he'd just never figure out how his phone and those apps specifically, really worked.
It didn't matter. The embarrassing text was sent and he just knew he wouldn't hear from Steve again. Which was a shame, really. He was the only one who'd really sparked an interest in him. For a moment or two, he'd even considered deleting the app completely.
Life on the run turned out to be terribly lonely. Just like he'd expected it would be. It had to be since he needed to stay off everyone's radar for obvious reasons. Hydra being hot on his heels to track him down and drag him back in again was only one of them. What he hadn't reckoned with, though, was the fact that he minded the loneliness more than he thought he would. Perhaps not right away, of course, but after a couple of months - perhaps even a year or so - of trying to figure everything out and working so hard to place the pieces of his old life back together, he'd started to feel like a piece was still missing and couldn't be found...
One particular piece shaped like a tall, reckless punk that had started his persistent headache in the first place.
He'd tried to move on, to ignore the gnawing feeling but he couldn't. Which was why he decided to take it as a much needed sign when Steve's face, by some miracle, showed up on that godforsaken dating app he'd started spending a little too much time on.
[text - Steve]: No idea what that feels like.
[text - Steve]: you just wouldn't punch back, remember?
“Injury.” (For Nat)
Bucky had noticed something was wrong from the moment she'd walked through the door. He couldn't even put his finger on why he felt like something was off, but it didn't really matter. He'd sense something was going on. Probably an injury she refused to let him know about. At least that was what he'd done on various occasions in the past and maybe he should have let her deal with it all alone, just like she apparently wanted, though Bucky was too worried for that.
"How much longer are we gonna pretend you're fine?" Bucky finally asked from where he stood in the doorway. His arms crossed on his chest as he watched her with his head slightly to the side. "You know you can trust me, don't you?"

For a moment or so all Bucky did was stare at the other like he had just heard the wildest and most ridiculous accusation. But was it really an accusation? Or was there more truth to it than Bucky was willing to admit? Probably, but he wasn't going to let Brock know that.
"All right, fine. You want the truth? Here it comes: I've been missing a purpose in life and came here cause I knew I'd find you here to help me change that." Bucky almost spat back a sarcastic retort. Not a confession, he'd made sure the tone in his voice left no doubt about that, but it probably didn't make much of a difference anyway.
"Are you gonna believe that?"

Sweet as Honey
@tormentedsoldier
It had been a few months since he’d woken up and learned aliens were real. SHIELD had decided he was ready to work, but steve had several reservations. Always asking questions. Questions that annoyed many of the agents that he was supposed to work with. STRIKE team Alpha’s commander was always amused by his reactions, but Brock also seemed to be amused by everything. Steve wasn’t sure what to think of him, but he didn’t dwell on it. Instead, he tried to figure out why he was being led around by the nose. Feeling like SHIELD was hiding something and intent on getting to the bottom of it.
He was settled in his spot at a cafe he’d started to frequent when he heard the raised voices. Looking up to see a man being berated by others. Steve couldn’t see the stranger’s face, but the words the men spoke only made him angry. Insulting the man’s origins and trying to intimidate him.
Steve found himself standing and storming over, face like a thundercloud as he grabbed the ringleader by the shoulder and practically lifted him off his feet to turn him to face Steve’s wrath.
“You’re gonna leave,” his voice dropped into a low Brooklyn drawl. Glaring down at the man that suddenly looked very nervous to be there. Not letting go until he’d said what he had to say, “and you an your pals ain’t gonna come back here. Understand?”
"You're unbelievable." Sergej laughed in honest amusement when he heard Steve's question. He usually didn't care how disheveled or messy he looked, but going out to grab breakfast with Steve's cum all over his stomach and chest clearly wasn't an option. Even he knew that.
"Idea was to clean up this mess so we can go have breakfast, not get messy all over again." He added with a chuckle as he made a vague gesture towards their bodies. "But yeah, it should be big enough for two."
" i was wondering when you'd wake up. "
Agonizing pain was the first thing Bucky felt when he came to. His head was too drowsy and dazed to locate where exactly the pain was coming from and honestly, it didn't make a difference. He couldn't have bothered if he tried... Couldn't have opened his torturously heavy eyes to see where he was and why he felt a soft mattress beneath his back when it should have been snow and ice surrounding him where he'd fallen from that ridiculously fast moving train...
Even the smallest attempt to move resulted in another wave of agony washing over his body, consuming every fibre of his being without a warning and did nothing but draw a pained groan from his throat. Which must have caught the attention of his best friend who seemed to be sitting by his bedside and Bucky could only guess how long he'd spent there to this moment.
"I was wondering when you'd wake up," said the voice he'd have recognized among millions and the sheer concern in it was enough to tell him it was bad. Slowly, he cracked his tired eyes open in an desperate attempt to hopefully catch a glimpse of Steve there beside him. Part of him even wanted to reach out for his hand to squeeze it lightly, though his body betrayed him, simply failed to move a muscle.
"St...Steve..." he managed to utter in a hoarse whisper that he hardly recognized as his own. "Wh... where am I?"
@walkitoffrogers
Bucky sat in silence as he listened as Steve talked. Chewing on the inside of his cheek, he lowered his eyes from his best friend for just a moment or so. Unsure of how to put into words what he was thinking. Not yet decided if he should voice them at all...
Because unlike Steve, there was absolutely no doubt in his mind what his future role in the army would look like. Severely injured as his short adventure overseas had left him, he knew he wouldn't be sent back to the front lines to join so many others in their fight to free Europe from evil forces holding it in its clutches. He used to be a sniper before it all went to shit, so now that the damage was done, what good could he possibly do for anyone in that position?
He hated every bit of what he was about to say, so he tried what he always did. Falling back into old habits of using humor as a coping mechanism, he did his best to shrug his shoulder and prayed to god that his voice wouldn't fail him and betray how he really felt as he opened his mouth to answer Steve's question.
"Well, seeing as sending me back out there as a sniper is no longer an option, I'd guess they're gonna keep me here for as long as they can justify." He added, knowing full well that they wouldn't need much of an excuse to begin with. "Stick every needle they can find into my arm and run every test they can think of until they got enough of that stuff to replicate it." He knew his prediction sounded grim, but he knew he would manage to endure it.... for as long as he wouldn't have to face Zola again.
"Much unlike you, I guess. Not gonna keep their national icon hidden away in a lab now, will they?" He added with a chuckle that he hoped would be convincing as he gently squeezed his hand in turn. But deep down, he already knew Steve wasn't gonna buy it anyway. "But with me being stuck in here and you back out there, I fear that also means I can't keep you out of trouble anymore."

Well look what the cat dragged in.
You miss me that much sweetheart?
"Sloppy's got nothing to do with it." Bucky retorted with seemingly careless shrug of his shoulder. "I trusted the guys at the hospital to take care of the body, is all. No way I could have sneaked in there to see for myself." Looking back at it now, though, maybe he should have done exactly that. Even if it was just to avoid this moment right there.
"But I guess you already knew that since you were waiting for me to show up here."
It’s Sinday! Feel free to send some dirty anons for my muses to answer to!

"Yeah well, I didn't think you'd actually be here." Bucky admitted with a shrug of his shoulder.
"I'd heard rumors you were among those who didn't get out of D.C. in time. So I thought I'd to see for myself and maybe stay here for a bit, off everyone's radar and all." Of course he was lying, but he didn't care. He was too stubborn to admit that Brock was absolutely right in his assumption and they both probably knew it.
@tormentedsoldier

"Don't get excited. I thought this place was abandoned after Hydra fell."
"That's the only reason I'm here. Because I knew no one would come looking."
‘ not just a scratch ‘
Bucky knew he could have asked the rest of his team for help. Maybe he should have told them about his injury and asked for help with taking care of it, but he didn't. Not that he didn't trust them, he just didn't want to make a big deal out of something he knew would heal with time.
Trusting he was alone, he didn't lock the door to his bathroom and came to regret it the moment he heard Zemo's voice coming from the doorway. Bucky didn't catch the exact words, though he could guess what he'd said as Bucky rolled his eyes and cursed himself for a moment for not being more careful.
As far as Bucky was concerned, this was nothing but a scratch. Perhaps being strapped down to a chair and tortured for hours had changed his perspective on pain entirely.
"You read the file. Compared to what Hydra used to do, a bullet wound does seem like nothing but a scratch. There's nothing to worry about. I'm fine." He wasn't, even Bucky knew that. Though thanks to the serum running through his veins, he had no doubt that his body could easily deal with it as long as he just removed the bullet.
“How does it feel to be home?” (from Steve or Brock)
@walkitoffrogers
Standing there in their old Brooklyn apartment felt like nothing short of a delirious dream he'd experienced in the first couple of weeks in Hydra's grasp. It wasn't. He knew that much. And yet he couldn't quite help the gnawing fear that it might all fade away the moment he turned to face his friend.
It had happened before. Who was to say it wouldn't happen again? He couldn't count how many times he swore he'd heard footsteps approaching his prison cell down in that secret Hydra base followed by Steve's voice. Hell, he'd even felt his hand on his shoulder for a second or two before turning only to come face to face with the gruesome truth instead of Steve's familiar face. The horrible fact that he wasn't there.
He half-expected it would happen again now, but when he turned to try and finally answer the question thrown his way, his best friend was still there in the room with him. Not a dream, not a hallucination.... He was really there.
"Home" Bucky heard himself scoff softly before he knew it. "Not even sure what that means anymore." He added, honestly. He could vaguely remember the place, there was something familiar about it that he couldn't yet place his finger on. He knew he was free and for now, he knew he was off Hydra's radar and yet.... he couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't. That someone was still lurking close in some dark, hidden corner he could not yet see.
"I'd always hoped for a chance to come back home. In the first few weeks after they found me, holding onto that thought was the only thing that kept me sane enough to fight back. Feels foolish to admit, but I kinda wish they were still alive." He added with a sad hint of a smile tugging at his lips as blue eyes slowly wandered across what used to be his parent's old apartment. And for a second there, he swore he could still hear their joyful laughter.
