every now and again, when vera had the time to be sentimental, she would miss her old team. and why wouldnât she? she spent a significant amount of time with them. with the rangers, her agents, her team. she would always try to keep her personal attachment to them at bay, and for the most part, vera was successful. she cared for them, though. she always had and always would. those at inner sanctum were her family when she lost hers. it only made sense to show she cared every once in a while.
vera cared, yes. and thatâs why she always kept her ears and eyes open; to the ground, to the skies in the hopes of hearing anything new about those who had left and were no longer apart of inner sanctum. she would get news here and there about past agents. some had moved far, far away from the city long ago, some had stayed and gone underground, radio silent. of course, she never reached out. knowing that they were alright and living a life they wanted was enough for her. that changed though when vera caught wind of ex-ranger honor park, who had taken it upon herself to set up shop at an unused safe house. she wasnât to be treated as a hostile, of course - but to a few new faces at inner sanctum, honorâs presence caused suspicion.
upon entering the safe house, it was exactly what vera imagined it would look like. - for the most part.run down and dusty and even a little hollow. but seeing the back of honor working away causing a sense of welcomed familiarity. miss elwyn. no longer a ranger or apart of the inner sanctum and yet respect is still instilled into honor. or, the girl was born to be polite as all hell. âhonor,â vera greets the young woman with a casual smile, âitâs good to see you.â attentive hues glance over the workspace.
âthis is what youâve been doing?â she asks, eyes drifting back to honor with the weapon still in her hands. moving forward to stand beside the young woman, veraâs eyes dart of the other pieces honor has put together. âi wouldnât have expected anything less from you.â she comments with a small smile of pride illuminating red painted lips. thereâs always been a spark within honor that vera wanted to desperately nurture. but, with the world ending on multiple occasions - and then eventually stepping down as inner sanctums director to pursue something else, it was rather unimaginable at the time.
vera could have tried harder, though. she could always try harder. â - thatâs also why sheâs here in the first place. âhowâve you been?â vera turns, her sights fully locking onto honor.
Honor was a quiet person and she almost seemed out of place in any workshop. Places like that were always loud. From the sounds of hammering metal, grinding it down or using the furnace, the silence could never find a comfortable spot to sit. She liked it that way. She didnât have to worry about how to put together her thoughts or if she could say the right words. She could just work and focus on creating a tangible piece of perfection.Â
In a world that liked to take away the good and the young, she pulled herself back from her personal troubles and looked for other things she could focus on. Naturally, she fell into her work and then decided to test her pieces against new parameters. Her disagreement with Inner Sanctum procedures on her personal case and the lack of access to IS technologies lead her to the option of vigilante work. âItâs nice to see you as well.â She smiled. She didnât believe that her activities as âCritical,â thoughtfully given to her by Antoinette, would warrant a visit from Vera, but she was glad to see the other woman.Â
âItâs what I know best.â She explained. Honor lightly pressed her finger against the cutting edge of the blade. It still wasnât sharp enough to cut, thankfully. âI usually try to return to the things Iâm most comfortable with when I feel overwhelmed.â The recent past left her with too many losses to manage on her own and she wasnât good at keeping it all inside. âIf I had been notified of your arrival sooner, I would have tidied up a bit, or fixed the security system. Right now, I only have my dog, but he tends to sleep around this time and he isnât very good at cleaning.â
Her brows knitted together at Veraâs question. She set the blade down slowly, while exhaling just as slow. âI blamed myself for the dome incident and not being able to save my friends.â Three rangers were killed during the chaos and she was also badly injured. While all that happened, two rangers were stuck outside of the dome and one cowered, never leaving his damn flower shop. She had been so angry, but Honor was never made to hold that much rage. âIâm much better now. How have you been? Iâve seen your daughter running around.â
