Prompt: “We’re out of milk!” - what if our characters were flatmates:

“We’re out of milk!” Jackie exclaimed peering into the refrigerator. “Toru, are you even listening to me! There’s no milk in the fridge!” A few moments later, it was followed up with another comment. “And no bread, either! Did you even get the groceries that I’d asked you to get?!”

A groggy Toru walked into the room, rubbing his eyes. “Jackie, you’re really loud this early.” He’d clearly just woken up, judging by the pyjamas, dishevelled hair and bleary eyes. “I’m sorry, but what were you saying?”

Jackie eyed him suspiciously. Usually, she woke up later than him. He was a livewire, Kurosawa Toru, so what could make him so tired? she couldn’t help but wonder. She’d been out on a mission the last few days, so perhaps…

“…when was the last time you slept?”“I just…woke up, Ja-““No, no. I mean, before that.”“Oh…” A long pause. “…maybe Monday?””Maybe Monday?” Jackie couldn’t help but look at him, incredulous surprise etched all over her face. “Do you really not remember?”

Toru shook his head, silently. “I was working on the case that Ishigami-sir gave us…”Sighing in exasperation, Jackie turned back towards the refrigerator. Toru was a dedicated worker, all right…but sometimes too dedicated. He’d ended up working for four days straight on a case—! No food, no sleep - she could just imagine him, fuelling himself on coffee and sweets. Tch, how unhealthy.

“Fine, you go back to sleep. I’ll get our groceries sorted out, this time.”
