Just wanted to show off my betta! Her name is Selena (after the asteroid), and she’s still really tiny—I think she'll grow (since I have the same kind, but adult, named Capella). Plus, Selena has big eyes and a small body—you can tell she’s still a baby!

Actually, I have three bettas in my tank. It’s big enough for them, so they don’t fight. And their temperament is surprisingly peaceful for bettas. They’re quite active, so it’s hard for me to get a sharp photo, especially when they’re together—but I do have a few.

About those white spots in the water—those are filter bubbles. Speaking of the filter, Selena and Capella absolutely love riding it. It’s positioned so the flow goes only one way (so the water stays calm on the other side of the tank). They swim over on purpose and let the current toss them up, and when they get tired, they drift off to the side where there’s no flow.

The thing is, I still haven't come up with a name for her, so I've been calling her "the blue one" all this time. I've always named every fish I've ever had after astronomical objects—asteroids, constellations, stars. I once had Cassiopeia, Lyra, Vega, Vesta. Now I have Capella, Selena

I just ran out of names...

Of course, I did think about naming her Juno, but I felt she needed something more "bitey" because of her sharp fin shape (she is crowntail betta). So for now she remains nameless—and this "for now" has already been going on for many weeks...

Theories/headcanons about Yenisei

We know Yenisei was born in a relatively well-off middle-class family. What if she had horseback riding and calligraphy lessons as a child?

𖦹 The first could explain where she even knows how to ride a horse in the first place.

𖦹 Regarding the second, that could explain her handwriting. She herself says that sometimes she has trouble reading her own handwriting >"Well yes, sometimes it's hard to identify what I have written, even for myself"< Greetings voiceline. And if we look at her signature in the game, it's elegant, almost calligraphic, but because of that, it's unclear. Reading it in Russian at first glance is quite difficult — it looks like "Еnnсей" instead of "Енисей," with the 'н' looking more like an English 'n' and the combination "нисе" turning into nothing but a series of squiggles.

Sooo... Maybe her handwriting is hard to read not because she writes badly or sloppily, but because she writes too elegantly, the way she was taught as a child? Of course it's not pure calligraphy, but she could have adapted it a little.

♒︎ My little headcanon is that she writes with the notebook held in her hand, no desk underneath, and she does it really fast too — which just makes her handwriting even harder to read ♒︎

She also most likely studied French, which was popular in the Russian Empire, especially among the nobility in the 18th–19th centuries. In her voiceline the Cast Arcane Skill I, she says: "Пусть le naufragé течёт вместе с водой"

"le naufragé" means "the shipwrecked person" or "the castaway" in French.

𖦹 We can say she speaks at least two languages: Russian🇷🇺 and French 🇫🇷

Perhaps her family was among those impoverished nobles who had lost their influence. After the February Revolution of 1917, the nobility as an estate ceased to exist and completely lost its privileges, and the Russian Empire fell. It's possible that Yenisei set out on her travels either before that or during it.

♒︎My headcanon: the tense situation in the country and in her family weighed heavily on Yenisey. She felt attached to her family, but she felt like a bird in a cage, bound to them. She decided to set out on a journey, to push past her emotions and sentimentality. She believed she would reach somewhere far, far away one day, far enough to forget the way back. That would be where her story truly starts. She left without saying goodbye — it wasn't hard for her; she didn't take many belongings. She took a horse and rode off into the night, off into the distance, in search of a new life.♒︎

Now about emotions. Perhaps Yenisei's detachment is a defense mechanism OR her manner of an ex nobble. She might seem cold, but she deeply cares about those who are dear to her. Inside, she might even feel something like anxiety. For example, in her Idle voice line, she says: "Time is like a cold river flowing rapidly. Whoever falls into it doesn't have a choice of the direction they will be going. I feel the same helplessness when you remain silent."

So picture this: you're a quiet person, and it's hard to tell what you're thinking. Yenisei would be worrying internally, but outwardly she'll wrap her anxieties in poetry.

Some Yenisei's lore (Reverse 1999)

Here I just want to collect some small facts + lore about Yenisei, you can write in comments if you disagree with anything or wanna add smth. (I know a lot of this may be obvious to fans or old players, but I personally found it interesting, cuz I'm a new player)

The first and popular things that is known from the game itself:

• Yenisei doesn’t have strong arms, but she’s incredibly enduring—she can walk for miles, even with extra weight on her back.

• Her mother is quite traditional, and Yenisei herself has mentioned that her mom is against her cutting her hair, which is why it’s so long.

• Her hands are often cold to the touch.

• She has a good ear for music and can hum melodies beautifully.

• Her handwriting is messy—even she sometimes struggles to read back what she’s written.

My first little theory:

In Vila's voice line (Chitchat II), mentions a girl who stood in a lake to practice her skills. It might have been Yenisei she was talking about.

("The cold water doesn't bother Rusavki... So when I saw that girl in the lake... Her face had turned blue as ice, poor kid. Did she really have to bathe in water just to cast her arcane skill?")

Never Look Back

Little Yenisei was born into a relatively well-off middle-class family. For various reasons, she took on the responsibility of caring for her entire household at a very young age. The habit of making decisions early on made her mature beyond her years and shaped her into a decisive person: once she had made a well-considered choice, she would see it through to the end—no matter what. Leaving home was no exception. Without a moment's hesitation, she packed her belongings and set out for parts of the country few had yet ventured into. After she left, she never sent a single letter or greeting back home again.

Careful with Every Coin

Every penny must be put to good use—this was Yenisei's guiding principle. She had no taste for generosity nor any interest in keeping up with trends; more than anyone, she understood the truth that her family was comfortable but fragile. Any major unplanned expense could cause them to slip from the middle class. To keep the household finances healthy, Yenisei personally planned the entire family's budget and always prepared extra reserves for emergencies. Now, this same ability—while making her seem overly calculating to others—has placed her in charge of the financial affairs of this loosely assembled expedition team.

The Cold Protector

In the past, she had to represent her family at social events, putting on a polite face for the sake of appearances. Now, she is tired of all false pleasantries. Her outward demeanor within the team is one of complete indifference. It is said that if anyone tries to strike up a conversation with her and she deems it idle chatter, she will simply walk away without a word. Yet beneath that cold exterior, Yenisei keeps a close and constant watch over those she is bound to protect. In the past, that meant her mother and younger sister; now, it is a certain adult in the expedition who cannot seem to take proper care of themselves.

Character Background (game lore)

Yenisei was born into a relatively well-off middle-class family. At the age of 19, she frequently went on expeditions as part of a geographic survey team tasked with exploring and surveying various places across the world.

One day, Yenisei was commissioned by Bessmert (Urd) to go on an expedition. While passing through Peilin River with the survey team, her companions suddenly transformed into lushu (deer-like mythical creatures). At the same time, a feathered being descended from the sky and warned them to leave Peilin River immediately. The transformed teammates then followed the being and vanished without a trace.

The two of them pursued and soon arrived at an ancient Chinese city called Peicheng. To their astonishment, although they were in the 19th century, the townspeople were dressed in the style of China's Tang Dynasty. Stranded and with no one to rely on, they were helped by the local village chief (Lizheng) to enter Peicheng, where they met Jiu Niangzi—a brewer who raised various mystical creatures—and temporarily stayed at her winery. However, that very night, Yenisei discovered lushu and some eerie little wooden dolls in the winery, and was taken into the woods by the feathered being she had encountered that morning.

It turned out that the transformation of people into lushu was caused by Jiu Niangzi. She would unknowingly dissolve mystical arts into water, and could also turn people into lushu in order to fulfill their wishes. Many had mysteriously vanished overnight as a result. The feathered being, named Getian, had come specifically to save Yenisei. But because she had drunk water from the winery during a heartfelt conversation with Jiu Niangzi, Yenisei herself also transformed into a lushu.

Yenisei originally planned to report the matter to the authorities alongside Getian, but he insisted that she wait where she was. With no other choice, she used her mystical arts to project the full sequence of events through a reflection and relayed everything to Bessmert. The two of them then went to the official shrine to tell the village chief the truth. But there, they found Jiu Niangzi weeping sorrowfully, and were mistaken for Getian's accomplices when they ran into him being pursued by the magistrate's officers. Forced to flee, the three retreated deep into the forest once more. Getian revealed to Yenisei and Bessmert that Jiu Niangzi planned to host a New Year's Eve banquet for the people of Peicheng on the night of Dushuo Festival. To stop her, the three risked arrest and returned to the winery to expose Jiu Niangzi, urging her to pull back from the brink before it was too late. But they were too late. Because her mystical arts had been sealed by a Taoist priest, Jiu Niangzi gave everything she had to break the seal and undo the damage, yet could not prevent the banquet guests who had drunk the wine from turning into lushu. With Getian's guidance, Jiu Niangzi decided to leave Peicheng and accept the divine trial of crossing the broken bridge. In the end, she broke the curse, restoring all those who had become lushu back to their human forms, and became a true auspicious being herself.

Afterward, Yenisei compiled her expedition notes into a journal and applied to join the team under Vertin, becoming a member of the Timekeeper squad.
