I read a concept of a mermaid fic I really enjoyed with a weird relationship between brothers so I took matters into my own hands and wrote my own mermaid fic. I had a great time and I complained and bounced ideas to a friend of mine and I would never let the author know publicly. Something some people tell you about before getting a cat is that they like to eat random things. But something I didn't realize as someone who's had cars around all their life is that cats eating random shit will turn into you seeing them chomping on something in the corner and then having to fish out wire that you can hardly see from their mouth. My cat loves wires, he likes the wires on his toys, my mom has some wire out for jewelry (that one I had to fish out yesterday), and he also loves biting wooden baskets and cardboard boxes. Thankfully my bastard son had not swallowed any wires yet, will update when it does happen.

Peepaw Switch

I have to treat my Switch like a Peepaw because it's been with me since 2019. Getting on its last leg. Today I went downstairs and it wouldn't turn on or charge at all. Turns out I had to hold the power button for 20 seconds (far longer than I was holding it) but I was fully ready to cry for 5 minutes and then move on. I will be treating my switch as a grandpa who is waiting to do some stupid shit and kill himself, and the fact I accidently dropped it a couple days ago is thr equivalent to slipping on the stairs.

But whenever I Google something with a legit question (so not when my mom asks me something or it's a small disagreement or wtv), I'll go to the first Reddit link and open it. God, I love reading fanfic but I've been in a slump lately and I haven't written any of my like 20 wips in a while and I finally got to work on one today and it was my itafushi one? Literally my comfort ship for when I want fluff? And I think i healed my soul a little bit I'm not even kidding. torrents work like this

i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3

unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it

i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map

i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs

this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.

crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
