radioways:
“ CALL IT A JOYRIDE, thought i’d drop in. ” which isn’t a lie necessarily, he goes where the sky takes him half the time, and it seemed nightvale was as good a place as any to throw a couple people into the endless blue. pale grey eyes turn to the officers, from one to the other, almost dancing, excitement like a fire beneath smoke. he leans back, humming slightly the desert is nice, the expanse of blue above them, mountains that don’t exist. “ it’s very different here, friendly people … i had a creature on the sidewalk ask for ten dollars. couldn’t give it to them, i rarely even carry ten pound notes. ”
SIMON LOOKS PAST THEM NOW, toward the double glass of mirror, if he squints he can see the sky there. imagines it with clouds drifting along. “ how many of you are there ? ” simon doesn’t know if he’d like to throw them into the vast or not, though he supposes he has time to debate.
Bea nodded ever so slightly, a mild acknowledgement of him speaking before looking back down to her piece of marked paper. Her notes essentially just said ‘old man fell from the sky’ over and over, but he didn’t know that and with how neat the writing wasn’t, he never would. “Where are you from then? Svitz?” she asked, ignoring that he’d met Rob on his way in. They needed to tell that creature he couldn’t beg on the sidewalk again; he had a home but kept asking people for ten dollar notes he could eat. She didn’t want to try and explain that the food he could buy with the dollars would be better for him. Not again.
“Overall, lots.” Even she didn’t know how many police they had outside of her little squad. The others didn’t matter so much to her. She paused for a second, feeling Jimmy and Alex’s minds to make sure they were still present. “Here. Four.”

The way that Alex seemed to react to their comments makes Zora realize that Alex likely has no significant idea about even the themes meant to be surfaced there. The book had in fact highlighted those things more overtly - dangerous as that could be.
Zora gives a bit of a sigh in response. “Yeah, it would be nice to have a small dinosaur as a pet. Trying to take care of one could be an interesting adventure.“
Alex assumed that Z also knew that the books were dangerous and so didn’t mention any further. It was likely wise for them to do so, since Alex really would have hated feeling that they had to arrest Z. They were nice.
“I’d probably get a h-herbivorous one,” they continued on, ignoring the sigh in a way that was kind of pointed, but mostly oblivious. They’d lived with Jimmy for way too long to stop when someone sighed at them.
Also these incompetent human-ish beings and their hive mind 100% live in my head like all the time even though I’m not on here
Also I’m sorry for being erratic (to say the least) on here, but the D.aisy T.onner muse is very strong now I’ve got a handle on writing her.
Hello yes, it’s me, on this blog rather than Daisy, here to say I’ve missed my little weirdos and I need to make a very The Stranger filled Magnus AU for them. Think Breekon and Hope but with four of them. Also a touch of the Hunt about them too? Wait, are they actually police? Who knows? I’ll probably have a more cohesive verse soon?
If anyone wants to kick something off with them in their Magnus verse, like this post.
@escapedartgeek continued from here;
Alex was on their day off, hence they had decided to strike up a much more casual conversation than usual. They had also watched Jurassic World with Jimmy the night before. Not read the book, of course. Books were dangerous.
They wrinkled their nose a little, not really having been prepared for the seriousness of the conversation that had occured. They hadn’t really been thinking about the economic implications of using science for profit.
“I was just thinking about how cool it would be to have a small dinosaur as a pet.”

So this place had some form of bureaucracy, which was good information to have. Unfortunately, he was very certain he did not have the papers being asked for, because he had never intended on ending up here - where ever here was.
Further unfortunately, it was apparently an unremembered moment of competence that had him in this particular spot of being expected to know what was going on. He never thought that having a skilled crew would come back and bite him.
Right. Okay. He could handle this.
“I must insist on my being very lost and having not intended to grace your pleasant tract of land.” The smile on his face didn’t falter, though his brown eyes kept sharp watch on the man before him behind his oval sunglasses. “I apologize for any confusion caused by my mooring here, but I genuinely do not know where I am.”
The police officer facing the considerably taller man looked at him and rolled their eyes a little. How did you end up in the middle of the desert at their Waterfront Recreation Area without meaning to? Still, the precedent had been set before and it wasn’t unheard of. It just felt unlikely.
“You’re in Night Vale,” Malcolm drawled, like he didn’t believe what the other was saying, he could have been an illegal wheat smuggler after all. He ished a booklet out of his pocket to pass to the man who appeared to be the Captain. “You should familiarise yourself with this.” Anyone who was visiting Night Vale had to abide by their laws, as constantly updated as it was.
After all, who knew how long they’d be here if they had truly just appeared. It could be weeks before they could leave the mooring again.

The entire house seemed to fill with the smell of spices. As Steve stirred the pot of chilli, he couldn’t help but smile to himself. Things were good now. Janice was doing well in school, Abby had no complaints about work…Cecil mentioned him on the radio! And he even complimented him! He still saw the lines in the sky, but…those never went away.
Steve was drawn away from his kitchen at the sound of a knock on the door. Opening it, he smiled at the sight of Bea and Malcolm. ( In uniform, of course. )
“ Well, it’s a good night for chilli! Can I help you? Maybe get you a bowl, if you wanted? “
Bea and Malcolm were very upstanding members of their community so of course they’d heard when Steve Carlsburg started talking about making his legendary chilli. They didn’t tend to eat on duty but being on their way home meant that they could take a little detour. For inspection, of course.
“That would be great,” Bea said with a smile, nodding in his direction. She was tempted to ask for a total of four bowls to make sure that they had enough for Jimmy and Alex but she thought that was pushing it too far to start with. A blast of static from Malcolm told her that he was thinking the same thing.
“We’re here just for... checks,” she tried to cover. Mostly for chilli.
fantastiicaly:
Oh, that looked good. Riley could feel himself grow hungrier as he looked over the picture. It looked simple, but so sweet. Kind of like Alex! Though they looked more sweet than simple. It was a nice change from Riley’s deliberately tacky fashion sense.
After sprinkling some cinnamon powder into his black coffee, his eyes lit up as he turned the menu over. “ Oh, look, they’ve got pumpkin pancakes!! I’ll probably have some of that, and maybe hashbrowns and an egg or something…oooh, or maybe just an omelette! “ Hey, if he couldn’t finish everything that was just free leftovers for the next day!
Riley grinned across the table at Alex again after placing an order for (what might seem like) too much food. Was that weird? He wasn’t sure if weird was good or not in front of Alex. Whatever, he said he wasn’t going to do this anymore. On a date like this, he had to be himself – and maybe himself ordered a Denver omelette for later!! It was fine.
“ How was work today! “ It was blurted out before Riley could really think about it. “ I mean, if you can tell me. I don’t want you to get into trouble; it would make sense if the secret police work was supposed to be…well…secret. Was today a good day, at least? “
Alex couldn’t help but smile when Riley didn’t even bring up their struggle to get words out. There were few people they’d dated in the past that understood what to do when their stammer was so strong that they couldn’t say what they meant. He just continued like they’d said what they wanted and then got distracted on his own quest for food. That had never happened on a date whatever this was; most people spoke over them or waited painfully for them to struggle through a word they clearly couldn’t say.
“I think everything’s good,” they assured, although most people in Night Vale knew the diner for being average food at best and downright dangerous at worst.
Alex smiled across the table and took a drink from their coffee before shaking their head and pouring a few packets of sugar into it. It was tepid and a little too bitter but it was still not the worst they’d ever had.
“I am allowed to t-talk about it,” they said, shrugging a little. “But that’s because it wasn’t anything exciting. Just a raid on some guy who was illegally growing invisible wheat. If it was more interesting I wouldn’t be able to say.”
escapedartgeek:
Zora gives a slight nod in response. Although they knew most police officers were not so much dedicated to serving than to contributing to a system that they thoroughly hated, they were willing to give this force the benefit of the doubt. Relatively speaking, just because Night Vale was that different of a place from most others that they had bothered to venture to.
“You’re very welcome. Hm, speak it into a lamp. Duly noted- kind of interesting that you have that connection but, makes reporting a little more convenient.“
Their system was probably quite contrived and corrupted too, but at least it was Night Vale and in the opinion of the Sheriff’s Secret Police, they served a good cause. Alex was doubly certain of that fact; they’d never wanted to be anything else and now they’d found their family in their little unit, they’d never want to be anything else.
“It’s designed to make reporting really easy and on the bonus side, it also means that we can hear if anything’s going on. It makes our response time really very quick.” In other places that would be a breach of privacy, Alex knew, but this was important for keeping their citizens as safe as they could be against unknown dangers. It was vital.
radioways:
‘ if you wanted honesty that’s all you had to say. ’ (I honestly don’t know who for. I feel like all of my guys are there if it’s questioning so maybe Simon?)
FRAIL OLD MAN SITS IN THE LITTLE ROOM, hands neatly set upon the metal table. the only reason he’s here is because they took his umbrella and as much as he may hate to admit it, he rather likes that one. so he’ll sit and talk about whatever it is the collection of officers need to lecture him about before reminding them they don’t exactly have proof for anything he may or may not have done. ( he did do it, but that isn’t the point. ) “ isn’t that the point of these sorts of things ? ” he questions, head tilting ever so slightly though the little smile doesn’t leave his lips. “ pardon me if i’m wrong, i don’t do this often, but i’d think honesty is a big part of … whatever it is you do here, wouldn’t you agree ? ” he wonders how many of them he’d have to throw into the vast before he could simply walk out.

Bea took her seat opposite from the man they were intending to interrogate, checking her illegible notes. That was what she got if you couldn’t use writing implements properly and had to scratch the notes into paper using pointed desert rocks. Eventually Malcolm joined her in sitting opposite this guy and she knew that they could start the interview properly. He was a peculiar guy, even by Night Vale standards, and because of that she could feel Alex and Jimmy also watching intently through the one-way mirror.
“It helps when people are honest with us, that’s for sure,” she said, looking up from her notes. “But interlopers like you often seek to deceive us to their intentions. Why are you in Night Vale?” He certainly wasn’t one of their normal contacts from any of the otherworldly government agencies and even a quick message to the City Council had come back with them confused on who they could be talking about. It was unusual for none of the overseeing bodies in Night Vale to know who they were on about.
fantastiicaly:
Okay, Jimmy’s words were certainly going into Riley’s ears. He was hearing what xe had to say about the strange dangers of his new home, about how the council’s word was law. That all made sense to him, sure! The journalist tilted his head, and tapped his chin in thought.
“ Yeah. “ When he turned back to Jimmy, there was something a little more confident in his grin. “ I mean, if it’s that dangerous, I’d be absolutely crazy to try and fight them on my own, right? At the very least, I’d need my own army of literate kids…but I guess a member of the secret police will do. “
A teasing little hip bump accented his words. There was something about hearing how dangerous a story could turn that just…made Riley want to follow it even more. And if Jimmy was offering, well, who was he to turn it down? He wanted to know what exactly made them so terrifying, where they came from…what they were protecting, if anything.
“ Have you fought a librarian yourself, Jimmy? “ he asked conversationally. grabbing a board and giving it a tug.
Jimmy couldn’t help but smirk at the way that Riley accented his words with that little hip bump. Xe would be the first one to admit that flirting with xyr was the best way to get something out of xyr. Riley seemed to have picked up on that fact way too quickly.
“Well, until you manage to get your teenage militia together, I’m more than happy to help.” Truth be told, xe didn’t want to go into the library. Librarians were actually terrifying and xe was just hoping that Riley would see that soon enough and give up on this mad scheme of his. At least for the mean time xe knew those boards would take more than a little pulling from one guy to come down. Xe and Malcolm had done a good job of putting them up.
“No, historically the Sheriff’s Secret Police stays as far away from the librarians as possible. Hence the entire need for a teenage militia.”
Xe stepped up and inspected the board Riley was pulling at. “You’re going to need to take all of the nails out before you even try to do that. Trust me.”

Perhaps any fight that they did have would be saved for another time. Although any rebellious streak needed to be gone about different just because they knew that this was no ordinary police force. Which had its .. positives, Zora supposed.
“You’re welcome but yeah. I can let you out the front door instead.“ With that said, Z walks over to the door and opens it gesturing for the police members to leave.
Bea nodded a little, walking to the door. Malcolm followed her without saying anything else; there wasn’t anything to say about this situation. Maybe the other thought that they should have more of an issue for them but despite the fact they’d dressed up properly, it wasn’t really a Secret Police matter.
“Thanks,” she said, nodding a little and waving away to them as she bit back another yawn. It really was very late for her. “We hope you continue this level of co-operation with our organisation.”
I know I said what the polices TMA verses would be before but tbh they’re all Eye-aligned first and everything else second.
escapedartgeek:
Zora hums a bit in response when Alex speaks of having the job to keep track of everything within the town. Having known some things about abolition, Z can’t help but idly float the idea in the back of their mind. But that’s something to be considered some other time.
“Guess that is.. dedication certainly.“
Although they still maintained a certain caution that they can’t help but feel internally, Z did not deny that it was kind of interesting how much pride Alex took in their duties. “Well, you’re certainly doing your best and that.. is all that anyone could ask from you. If there’s nothing else to be said.. I appreciate you stopping by.“
“Well, we have to be dedicated,” Alex insisted. This was something they felt pretty strongly about. It was like they’d been raised to be a part of the Secret Police. Now they were with them it was like they were whole; belonging exactly where they were. Night Vale was better now they had their family.
“It’s no problem,” they smiled back at Z. “If you have anything else you’d like to report you could write it in the journal too, I guess. Or you could just speak it into a lamp, we’ll hear it.” It was nice to have people return to Night Vale, even if they didn’t understand any of the new changes that had taken place. In Alex’s mind, it just showed that they really were the best town.
