final comic project! ~
REBORN
Theme being simulation & artificiality, REBORN follows a character becoming aware of their comic limitations as they repurpose themselves outside of class project use :)
made in Procreate
The main character was previously named Emma, and was the protagonist of my 4th project WASTE. The theme was body & health, and was the first project to give us choice between ink mediums.
I got super excited and ambitious with my goal being 12 pages instead of our usual 8, and based the concept off chronic wasting disease. Long story short- the project drove me insane.
I didn’t plan it out very well in the beginning and it would come back to haunt me at every point. I believe I skipped 3 total classes just to stay home and work on it because I had so much anxiety about falling behind. I got a two week extension on it, even then turning it in unfinished (three whole pages being barely legible rough sketches). I had spent over 7 weeks thinking and stressing about the project, just to fail my own standards.
I did learn a lot from the process, and my friend being attached to Emma inspired me to keep her around as an OC. Using her in my final project, along with fox & skunk making a third appearance, I felt better about it all. This was a nice send off 🍁
Here are some pages from WASTE. can't believe I inked all this holding my dip pen upside down...
inked on 9x12 bristol board, scanned, pre-digital editing
I have aged 30 years since starting this class,, here’s my 2nd to last project of the semester They Weren’t the Stupid Ones
prompt was history & we were allowed to use 1 tone of color
ink on bristol board, scanned, & edited in Photoshop
Fox & Skunk: Sweet Treat
Third assignment for comics class!! no words allowed 🤫
each page was traditionally sketched and inked on 9 x 12 bristol board, scanned, then edited in Photoshop
the assignment limited us to only use our pocket brush pens…I’ve never inked with brush before and it shows a little lol
I’m satisfied with the outcome tho 🦊🦨
my first traditional ink comic!! ~
This was for an assignment where we had to use Ed Emberley’s style. I’ve never used dip pens before this, very fun but MY GOD 😭
here it is scanned and edited in photoshop 🫶
I’m so in love with the apple core trend idea, WHO CAME UP WITH THIS- I OWE THEM MY LIFE
Finished piece, acrylic and color pencil :>
underpainting and progress photo
finished paint without color pencil
I took a figure painting class last fall semester and it caused me to go through the five stages of grief lol. I had painted and taken classes before, but I never considered myself a painter, so I kinda went in with the mindset of “I suck at this but I’m okay with that.” My teacher was lovely though and pretty much didn’t care what part of the figure/scene we painted, or how we did it, she just wanted us to put effort into it. It took a couple weeks of being unhappy with pieces before I started having fun, and by the end of the semester it was one of my favorite classes!! 🌾
When summer started I was getting an itch to paint, which I had NEVER felt before. I decided to paint my dad’s dog for father’s day, which got the rust off, then I painted my friends dog (pictured above) for his birthday a couple weeks later :)))
I think this is probably my favorite thing I’ve ever painted, coming from a digital artist obsessed with OCs. My friend is currently getting a custom frame for it which UGHHH makes my heart melt,, 🧡
I believe I’m taking another painting class this coming semester, and I’m looking forward to making more stuff :DD

Another year, another meet the artist 🍁
my final for my intaglio style printmaking class! It took a lot out of me, but I’m really satisfied with the end product :-)
I had to make 5 prints for the finale, each page was about 12 x 13 inches, and printed from 3 separate copper panels.
I was in the studio for 10 hours on the last possible day (work kept my weekends busy) and left at 2am…If I had to guess 1 print would take a good 15-20 minutes to ink. Professor was picky about alignment, so I spent probably 30 minutes going delirious on making a template. I was also paranoid about having clean edges, and even ink distribution, so I was working slow.
here is the original sketch/concept, I cleaned it up digitally, flipped, and sectioned it off to print. the class ran out of tracing paper so the teacher made me some, forgot what it was called, but it was just a highly pigmented loose powder. then we had the first pass of printing where i just did the basic line work.
I had the most fun with the arm panel because of all the line textures, slowly chipping away at all the implied shapes. there’s a second pass, for most of my test prints i just taped scraps of paper together because i didn’t wanna waste big sections. so i had a good idea of the final product, but never saw it all together until the very end.
the class ended up having a problem with the hot plate and ground. the rollers were dirty which got debris imbedded in the wax, and thus etched away in the acid. the carnage is most noticeable with the last panel on the right. it was frustrating in the moment, it always sucks to spend hours on something just to etch imperfections you never noticed. but i learned to love it… especially with the off white paper i printed on, I feel the texture adds a nice weathered effect. happy accidents.
I highly suggest taking a printmaking class if you have access to one! it’s time consuming, and may drive you just a little up the walls, but it’s a very rewarding experience. I kinda miss it 🍁
