headcanon and canon based pre-series - season 5

Character // luna modern au

i’ve been working on choosing last names for the grounders modern verses as i want them to mean something relating to the character. i’m between two options for luna as i prefer the way one sounds but prefer the meaning behind the second option as it’s a bit more complex and ‘deep’.

option one is Luna Anahita. anahita meaning water or river goddess. i like it but it feels much to obvious of a choice. that said it sounds nice in my opinion.

my second thought is Luna Charmolipi. charmolipi is a compound word composed of the greek terms for joy and sorrow, or sadness. it’s difficult to translate, but it conveys the idea of bittersweetness and having mixed feelings about something. personally i think this suits her well even in her modern verse.

Headcanon // luna’s meditation

luna’s meditation method that she used to calm raven down is generally perceived as something she used to calm herself down and while she did use it herself it was more often used for the other people on the rig. to calm people down when fights broke out, sending someone back to land was a last resort as luna believed it to be a horrible thing to do to someone, to take away their peace. it’s why she had no hesitation in her movements or what she was saying when bringing raven to the ground and having her repeat the mantra. she’d done it many times before and it helped that she was strong enough to handle any fight without violence.

Character // jasper grounder verse

originally born to yujleda jasper eventually finds his way to luna’s rig, he was never overly unhappy in yujleda, he had two loving parents and his friend monty (who was more like a brother). it wasn’t until his village was raided by azgeda warriors who were mad about yujleda’s refusal to take their trade deal. both his parents died in this raid, his father died after sacrificing himself for jasper. he survived by hiding in a swamp outside the village but instead of going back when azgeda left he kept running. he didn’t see a point in going back to his dead parents especially since he didn’t know whether monty had survived or not.

after finding luna’s rig he begins to find peace again, even meets a girl; shay. he never went back to yujleda but he did write a note and send it back with one of luna’s scouts, luna had scouts in every clan to save as many people as possible. on the rig jasper works to keep the on rig farm going, he’s helped them a lot, finding creative ways to grow as many crops as possible. he did well on the rig; the fish took some getting used to, he was never a fan of fish.

Character // derrick

originally born to boudalan, derrick was his villages main healer, he enjoyed his job but he couldn’t handle all the child soldiers that came through the infirmary. especially since most were to far for any grounder medicine to save. it was what he loved most about the rig, kids were allowed to be kids. no one on the rig was being injured in war and he loved his job as healer again. it was rare that one of his patients died.

he and luna would often talk about their pasts with each other, derrick was the only one luna spoke to about herself before the rig and derrick would tell luna all about his life in boudalan as he did miss his old clan. not that he ever wanted to go back, it was more of a nostalgia feeling, he’d talk for hours about what he missed about boudalan culture, even telling stories to the other people on the rig.

instead of finding peace on the rig luna lives on a farm in unclaimed territory deep in the woods. she’s managed to stay away from people and stay completely self sufficient.

Character // luna kom ouskejon

i like the idea of luna being from ouskejon originally as they were vicious fighters and the way she dresses and speaks lines up enough with how i imagine ouskejon. she was very straightforward with clarke and was very serious any time she wasn’t with the kids.

while she tries her best to make everyone on the rig feel like family she has a hard time speaking to the people coming from ouskejon as it reminds her of who she was, overtime she’s tried to relate herself more to the nicer parts of ouskejon culture but it’s not easy for her especially when she hears the stories of how ouskejon refugees made their way out and to the rig. it’s also hard to see the young ouskejon boys who bare similarities to her brother.

it does explain why she only has two tattoos, she got them from an ouskejon artist who had been working in polis a short while before her conclave. tattoos are available on the rig but she doesn’t plan on getting more especially from someone not born to ouskejon.

Moodboard // modern day luna

luna grew up relatively well off money wise but her father had always made it clear that her sister was his favourite. it was relatively subtle from an outsider’s viewpoint but it was always clear to luna, she hated her father for this but managed to keep herself from blaming her sister, even when she was a kid she blamed herself more than her sister. she doesn’t talk much with her father anymore and while she doesn’t hold anything against her sister they just never grew up as sisters in the way most siblings do so they don’t talk but luna’s always asking people about how she is even if she doesn’t feel like she could ask herself.

in high school luna worked part time as a life guard, now she works as a welder making good money but she wishes she had a job on the water. she’s always loved the water and even though she doesn’t work near it (yet) she spends every weekend at the beach, sometimes with people, sometimes alone but she never goes a full week without making a trip to the ocean.

Character // adria

originally born to delfiyon, adria came to the rig at a young age after being orphaned by war. she was set to be raised by her clan and eventually die at war herself. she heard of the rig through a friend of a friend of luna’s; he was alike to lincoln spreading the word about a peaceful rig away from all the violence. he became temporarily close to adria, talking her through the deaths of her parents and eventually brought her all the way to luna’s rig. from there he left her and she hasn’t seen him since but luna assures her he’s okay.

not knowing anyone on the rig and being away from her clan and people for the first time adria clung to the clan leader. overtime adria unintentionally took the place of luna’s second; however instead of training her to fight and preparing her for war luna taught her to fish and provide along with many life lessons. luna had always thought adria would eventually take over as clan leader but pramfaya took her too soon.

Clan Building // law

the crime rate on the rig was practically zero, mostly because their was no need to commit a crime, everyone had everything they needed and there was little conflict. that said when there was a crime it was usually related to violence. they did grow up as grounders after all and it wasn’t as easy for everyone to let that all go once they were taken out of the world of violence they came from.

when a serious crime is committed the criminal will be banished back to land. luna’s whole philosophy is second chances so it takes a lot to be banished. it’s rare that it happens but it is the main reason no one other than luna and hers scouts know where the rig is located.
