the 100 mood boards ↠ grounder clans ouskejon — blue cliff
Character // luna kom ouskejon
i like the idea of luna being from ouskejon originally as they were vicious fighters and the way she dresses and speaks lines up enough with how i imagine ouskejon. she was very straightforward with clarke and was very serious any time she wasn’t with the kids.
while she tries her best to make everyone on the rig feel like family she has a hard time speaking to the people coming from ouskejon as it reminds her of who she was, overtime she’s tried to relate herself more to the nicer parts of ouskejon culture but it’s not easy for her especially when she hears the stories of how ouskejon refugees made their way out and to the rig. it’s also hard to see the young ouskejon boys who bare similarities to her brother.
it does explain why she only has two tattoos, she got them from an ouskejon artist who had been working in polis a short while before her conclave. tattoos are available on the rig but she doesn’t plan on getting more especially from someone not born to ouskejon.
Clan Building // training
ouskejon were known for being especially brutal with their own people, their armies in particular. to insure their warriors are well disciplined said warriors would stand in lines whilst their war chiefs walk around punching and kicking them hard in the stomach, warriors would be expected to hide their pain. one of the luxuries of being a war chief includes no longer needing to participate in this process, that said the odd war chief will choose to take part.
when seconds reach the end of their training, they are then put through initiation ceremonies. these ceremonies are made up of a series of harsh tests of combat and survival skills as well as loyalty tests. most tests are tests that every warrior goes through aside from one, all the best ouskejon warriors were at some point put in a death tournament with the next best warrior. even though it was expected, nothing can ever truly prepare you for having to kill one of your own, someone you have fought beside and/or consider a friend.
after the warriors who wish to become war chiefs finish their training they must prove themselves once more by climbing the cliff without any help or supplies, from the stormy and dangerous ocean below to their village, built at the very top. the climb can sometimes last days but warriors are known around for how quickly they finished the climb. if a warrior fails to finish the climb they will be left to die, if a warrior gives up they will be banished on principle.
