The Flowers of Johto

A procession of the Courtesans of Mahogany Town and the Kimono Girls of Ecruteak was to be held. A short pilgrimage where the girls would switch cities, going to the opposite directions of each other. The courtesans would wind up in Ecruteak for the day, dazzling the people there with their performances, while the Kimono Girls did the same once they arrived in Mahogany Town.

Escorted by the local Yakuza, in a bid to make up for old wrongs that persisted to this day. Over fifty years of lost innocent lives weighed still upon their shoulders and this small token gesture was the least they could do. Dressed well and cleaned up, the ladies were properly guarded and escorted, making sure nobody rushed up to the women with ill intentions or otherwise.

Look, don't touch, for these are the Flowers of Johto. Some of the loveliest and revered women of their region.

Followed by their partners, each girl took strategic spots all around town, on erected little stages, guarded by someone else while they performed in intervals, showing off their highly honed craft with their Pokemon. Speaking with visitors when they were not performing and generally being beacons of beauty and wisdom that were so beloved by their traditional region.

"You got scolded today, Naoko. You knew we had practice today. Of course Miki got upset with you."

"The festival is not going to expect us for a week...we have time. I needed to buy a new yukata because Umbreon tore a hole in my usual one."

"Still, if we don't practice, Miki will have our heads."

"She's more lenient than you think. She's just hard on you because you miss practice."

"It's because I was lost again."

"You're always wandering off."

"So are you!"

"Ah, but - the point here...I think there will be another dance as well. I had a dream last night."

"Oh? Is it the same as before?"

"No, no, this one was different. I dreamt of a dark storm...and a building falling."

"You mean - "

"Like with Miss Natsume, yes. I think we should be ready."

"I think so too."

[Miki!!] There's a NERVOUS UNOVAN BUSINESSMAN at the door. <<He's here to talk to the Kimono Girls about doing a show in Nimbasa's BIG STADIUM. He doesn't seem especially sharp and didn't do much research on your dancing beforehand. It's his first time visiting the theater. How do you proceed?>>

This isn't the first time you've had to interface with the public here. There are people who request you and your dancers for public displays, and you have traveled as far as Hoenn to perform before.

The gentleman is kind about it, at least, and stuttering like a fool as he asks questions that most already know. Their dances are as much ceremony as art, and the theatre comes with the added benefit of being able to sit with and dine alongside the girls. It was a sacred position after all these years.

You listen to his questions patiently, hands folded across your lap, while Flareon lays her cheek against your knee and echoes how bored you feel listening to this.

Unova is very far, and the stadium he describes is a place for grand shows of power and entertainment. It's for sport, for battle, and for elaborate displays of might among the trainers and players.

You shake your head and reach out to pat the back of his hand.

"It isn't the sort of place our dances would best shine. If there were a smaller venue, I might consider the outreach - but we are best suited to small, private performances. I am happy to get you a seat at tonight's performance for you to see it yourself, if that would suit you."

Flareon huffs a warm breath against your knee, making you stifle a small cough of a laugh. She's over this already, it seems.

[Sayo!!] EXAMINE the GOLDENROD GAME CORNER.

The Game Corner stands across the busy street from the Department Store - you're here because Kuni wanted to shop for something for Miki's upcoming anniversary, and you agreed to accompany her, lest something happen like last time.

(You remember, quietly, the fear that stewed inside when she became a hostage during the Radio Tower Takeover. She is a fierce trainer, true, but she is a dancer at heart - and Rocket were very dangerous to someone like Kuni.)

Jolteon presses against your skirts, the spiked fur poking through the fabric of the light summer kimono and into the skin of your knee. It grounds you from the roiling anger in your gut as you watch happy couples and jeering salarymen wander into the Game Corner for an afternoon of 'fun.'

You think quietly of Clair and her mission here. You think, very quietly, of what she might do - and Jolteon sends a short bolt of static through you as he echoes your thoughts.

Before you can stew deeper on it, Kuni returns with her arms full of boxes, Vaporeon dogging her steps with little chirping cries, and draws you from your thoughts.

"I found such beautiful matching hair pieces - so I got one for everyone. Sorry!"

A sigh (she's definitely spent over budget) and a smile greets her as she hands out a hair piece decorated with small yellow flowers for you. She wears a matching one decorated by Oran flowers in her own hair.

"We should get going. The train is leaving soon."

Anzu peers into the dance hall. It hasn’t changed at all since she was a little girl, and that’s … almost comforting, in a way. The girl stands in the doorway, watching the kimono girls, and just … sighs, wistfully.

The theatre only has a few people inside, and only one of those people didn't work there - an older gentleman tucked into a corner playing some sort of private card game at the table.

There were three girls on the stage - Miki and the twins, practicing a new part of a routine - and there's a sleepy, dreamy voice to the left of Anzu where she stood. The girl at her side wore a light, summery blue kimono that meant she was definitely on a break.

Kuni hums thoughtfully, echoed by a purring Vaporeon at her feet.

"Are you thinking of dancing?"

the eevees that become the kimono girl's partner pokemon are usually descended from an ancient line of eevees known to partner with noble families far back in johto times. the exceptions of this generation are zuki and naoko's espeon and umbreon, as they were caught when the twins were very young and have remained steadfast partners ever since.

the training regiment for a kimono girl is so strict, its entirely the reason why they dont have a glaceon, leafeon or sylveon user for the group yet (combined w/ not having native spaces to evolve glaceon or leafeon in the johto region)

Each girl's favourite down time activity in order to recharge their batteries.

miki: enjoys spending time in quiet around the bellchime path or at the river between mahogany town and ecruteak city. additionally, she'll go to goldenrod city to visit bill's mom, an old coworker of hers.

kuni: she really loves dancing far more than battling, so you can find her dancing a lot even during her free time. she likes shopping in goldenrod too, and sometimes even treks out to olivine city to see jasmine and say hello.

sayo: her downtime often consists of traveling to blackthorn city to see clair, visit the den and talk with the tamers. she's very interested in battling, far more than dancing, and she enjoys talking with others who are just as intense. she also spends a bit of time at the lake of rage with her vaporeon.

naoko and zuki: as twins, they spend a lot of their time together when they aren't working. they can often be found around the ecruteak gym bothering matsuba, or traveling out to cherrygrove, new bark and azalea towns to say hello to their friends. (that is when naoko isn't getting hopelessly lost in ilex forest.)

hc: the kimono girls of ecruteak's dance hall.

this group of women are highly revered as shrine priestesses and entertainers in the city of ecruteak. becoming a member of their ranks is a long process, much like the long process of training as a geisha, and involves a deep spiritualism and connection to the city and the bell tower there.

tradition has the girls partnered with an eeveelution, but this is not a requirement. there has not yet been a kimono girl partnered with a sylveon.

the five that are currently active are as follows:

zuki, partnered with umbreon. enticed by pretty things, she is the same age as matsuba and a childhood friend of his. naoko is her twin.

naoko, partnered with espeon. bad with directions but fierce in battle, she is the same age as matsuba. zuki is her twin.

sayo, partnered with jolteon. more interested in battling than dancing, she is the second oldest of the girls. she often visits blackthorn city on her days off.

kuni, partnered with vaporeon. preferring dancing to battling, she was kidnapped by team rocket during the goldenrod city incident.

miki, partnered with flareon. she is the oldest and strongest of the kimono girls and lays claim to being blessed by ho-oh itself. matsuba's eevee kit is from her flareon.
