I'm just thinking about how Peach's past including domestic abuse by his father really does show a lot about how he relates (and does not relate) to other people. Peach isolates himself and relies entirely on himself. He cannot lean on other people because his trust is hard to get and harder still for him to act on that trust. It also, honestly, makes sense for why he struggles so much with seeing that Thee is in love with him. I love this show so much because all the characters make sense. They have trauma and love and loss and life and hobbies and wishes and dreams and fears... and it works. We see the longterm effects of abuse in both Peach and Thee. Different kinds of abuse and different lives shaped them so much and it makes sense for how their relationship is slowly building and circling.
(It even works with Mok and his childhood and how he fits into Thee's life while also having Rome in his life and how he handles everything he sees.)
This started as a tag essay BUT I'm going to put it here instead because it got too long:
I was so excited to see people's reactions once we got some backstory in the show specifically because it makes so many things about Peach click into place. I think it's very easy to see him as a bit bland or oblivious or overly-perfect in classic y/n fashion, but what makes Peach work where other characters of his ilk fail is that every single one of these traits has depth and intentionality behind it. If Peach weren't exactly the way he is, the narrative wouldn't function properly.
We walked away from Episode 1 of the tv series knowing two things about Peach:
He is the chillest, friendliest, most dependable guy on the planet
He is a massive introvert who struggles to form long-term relationships
These two traits seem contradictory, maybe even a little shoehorned in to make him relatable™, until we get his backstory and realize this is a guy who a) has been deeply traumatized by domestic violence and b) was forced to grow up very early in order to avoid being separated from his sister (it also hasn't been directly stated in the series [yet] but I feel it's somewhat implied: the reason this happened was because families wanted his sister but never him).
In light of this, all these traits which initially make Peach seem like a bit of a blank slate suddenly make perfect sense. Of course his life is a little bland: he worked hard for his peace and is rightfully protective of it. Of course he's isolated: His fear of interpersonal violence has gone so deep it's indistinguishable from his introversion. Of course he comes off as oblivious: he's not used to being chosen for himself, and the moment he starts to realize that's what's happening in episode 3 he genuinely doesn't know what to do with it (another reason I love TheePeach— they confuse each other in ways that foster growth). This isn't how his relationships work: he's there for support, to be an emotional bulwark, to be your chauffeur and your therapist and your wingman and and and.
This is a huge part of the reason none of his relationships seem to last: he'll give you everything he has— except his trust and vulnerability. We can even see this a little bit in his relationship with Plub: he keeps her out of his conflict with Wivit for obvious reasons, but by doing so he unintentionally shuts her out. We can tell from Plub's reaction that this is a pattern that frustrates her— Peach protects her, but never allows her to reciprocate in a meaningful way. He is, essentially, a helpful ghost: right down to the fact that he doesn't realize what he's doing.
And finally: of course he's a little too perfect. Even setting aside the fact that abuse heightens your awareness of other people's emotions: We see a few times (with the most extreme example being that last scene in episode 4) that Peach's natural instinct in conflict is to placate, then to get away, and failing all else— to freeze. Fight isn't in his hindbrain's vocabulary, which means the confident self-assertion he displays when someone (cough, Khun Thee, cough) oversteps his boundaries must have been learned.
This explains why he actually handles conflict incredibly well when it does arise! The situation with the girl in the photoshoot is a great example: he doesn't pitch a self-righteous fit, the way a character with natural fight might've done. He also doesn't just stay silent or walk away, which would've made sense for a character like him. Instead he makes himself into a physical barrier between Wivit and the girl, asks her what happened and assures her that he'll help, and then follows through calmly and assertively. All of that speaks to someone who has spent a lot of time learning how to manage himself in and respond appropriately to uncomfortable situations. This is also, crucially, how he's able to manage the Everything that is Khun Thee.
In his own way, Peach is as much a subversion of his trope as Thee is. He's what happens if you take a box of righteous-but-relatable blank slate y/n character traits and then use them to make an actual character. In the words of op: "I love this show so much because all the characters make sense."
I could talk forever about this guy, but I have work to do so I will restrain myself. tldr the conflict resolution skills which are baked into Peach's pores make him a very good boi™ but also serve as his self-fashioned shield against real vulnerability. I am squeezing him like a stress toy at all times.
