Traces of Light

As a photographer, I am obsessed with two things--life and light. The sweet innocence in a child's eyes, glowing pink clouds in an autumn sunset, intricate bee wings and flower petals, the frozen motion of a boy doing tricks on a bike--light reflects off all of these beautiful things and reveals a hidden gift--the humming energy of LIFE. The two almost seem synonymous; for without the gift of light, we could never see all that is alive and thriving around us; we could never capture a moment of this life to frame in our minds and on our walls; we could never picture that "alive" feeling. In these traces of light, we find the secret gifts of beauty, power, and design; we discover the things we take for granted, the treasures hidden in the shadows, the phenomena that everyone looks at but no one sees; we find God in His creation.

The train cars would be my walls

and graffiti would be the art on them.

the present can not comprehend the past;

it can only watch it decay

the same thing that lets us out

Sometimes life is only grasped in death; read the directions others left

Build your hopes and dreams on what truly matters

...transfixed in frost,

Remember

When we drive past,

I'll be listening to my favorite song for the third time in a row

and seeing a reflection of myself in your car window

as I watch the art of a thousand minds

enter into and out of view.

If this city were a museum

with each street framing

a different exhibit

  and each neighborhood

a new gallery; maybe I could stay longer,

but we're just passing through
