“Don’t you think maybe they are the same thing? Love and attention?“
Lady Bird (2017), dir. Greta Gerwig
I wrote about Lady Bird and growing up in Sacramento, and now I want to go see the film again: http://www.seetraciwrite.com/2017/12/watch-this-lady-bird.html
Is there anything new to say?

“if we are all in the gutter, it doesn’t change who we are. ‘cause some of us in the gutter are looking up at the stars.”
I listen to Mika’s entire body of work when I need inspiration, but then I inevitably hit that point where I get sad because I’ll never create something as beautiful as this play on Oscar Wilde’s words.
Also, this song and video are poetry come to life.
Cookies are too awesome to keep just for ourselves
I’ve cried watching this multiple times today ;___;
“When you say sorry for yourself continuously, you are telling everyone that you are inferior.”
I love this video from @sprinkleofglitr. It’s something I’ve been thinking about quite a bit – this concept of apologizing because I feel like I haven’t lived up to an expectation set forth by others (or, sometimes, by myself): http://www.seetraciwrite.com/2017/02/apologies.html
Vice President Joe Biden barely held it together as President Obama surprised him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom today. [captioned version]

And of course, we have a long way yet to go, but to those who see that progress as a manifestation of weakness, to the people who puff themselves up and beat their chests and yell about strength while pouring salt into the wounds of insecurity and fear, I can never see your rhetoric as anything other than sad, hurtful weakness – weakness that is getting in the way of our ability to get on doing the good work that humanity needs to do. And I have no doubt that in the fullness of time, we will move past this and we will do that good work.

This is Qanta Shimizu, one of several Asian Americans who found themselves featured on the “Chinatown Edition” of “Watters’ World,” a segment on Fox News that has sparked outrage this week among people throughout the country, including members of civil rights organizations and elected officials.
We caught up with Qanta yesterday to talk about what happened and to ask him if he had a message for Jesse Watters. His response: “Don’t taint the beautifulness of this country with your [disrespect].“
has america tried turning itself on and off again?
