5 Simple But Important Tractor Maintenance Tips
Getting a lot of usage out of your tractor? Why not dedicate a few spare minutes every day toward doing the following things that are practically guaranteed to increase the lifespan of your hard working piece of machinery!
Oil check: Nothing spells trouble more than an under-oiled engine. Run your tractor for a good 10-15 minutes, cut the engine, let it sit for another 10-15, and check your oil...then add as needed. It's simple, but will save your internals from needing unnecessarily early repairs!
Fuel up: Sediment, rust and other grime in your fuel tank should be drained from your tank regularly, as should a fresh supply of fuel be added each day before work starts.
Radiator Fluid: Coolant leaking into your engine oil isn't so cool, and it's sneaky enough to find a way through your tractor's gaskets and O-rings. One of the more important reasons to check your radiator fluid daily is to see if there's an abnormally quick amount of loss, which could indicate leakage.
Tire Pressure: Daily check-ups of your tractor's tire pressure ensures longer tire life. Tires with low pressure crack and wear down quickly...even a simple 'thumb test' against the sides of your tires can let you know of a tire that needs a small dose of inflation.
Air Filter: Tractors work in dirty conditions, so, it's no surprise that your air filter is probably caked up with grime every so often. Brush off your air filter and be sure to replace it when it's seen it's better days. A clean air filter means more air mixing with your fuel; and therefore, a better running tractor.
These 'simple yet stupid' measures are quick checks you can perform every morning or evening after using your tractor. With just a few minutes, you can work a quick daily routine that will help your tractor keep rolling for years to come.
