Some dreams make it impossible to sleep ♡.
Jean dreams of you. Under the ceiling that knows him too well. Smiling ear to ear. You're dressed up in a white gown and it's frilly— just the way you like it. And when the wind hits hard and sends your veil flying sideways— Jean thinks it's the specks of dust that make his eyes ache to the point of tears.
But only when he wakes up he realises that he is wrong.
His shirt is too sweaty. The cicadas are too loud tonight. And you're not wearing a white gown. You're not here at all.
You're across Trost. Sitting on the bedroom floor. Basking under the fluorescent glow of your laptop. Probably watching another shitty movie with your phone on silent mode.
He thinks of calling you. But no. Whether within an arm's length or across the campus or Trost— you're too close yet so far away.
In winters the skies are grey. Well, in a city like Trost the skies are never lively, anyway. On the morning bus, sometimes Jean gets too sick of the sky as he watches it stay still behind the iron grills.
And when the bus comes to a halt, a figure stumbles through the doorway, rummaging through their backpack— ready to crash into the metal pole when the bus starts moving again.
Your world spins and Jean is there to catch it— in the way his hand reaches out to yours and pulls you right beside the seat next to his.
“Hey.” he mutters, blankly staring at you as his one is still tightly curled around your bare wrist.
“Hi.” you giggle, too shameless for his taste. Your hair falls over your face just like it did in his dream.
He can feel his heart clench. His fingers tightening. “Watch yourself, Y/n. Don't laugh.” He's dreaming and his hand is around your wrist. You're smiling at him and this will all be over when he wakes up at 3:24 in the morning.
You glance at your wrist for a split second and he frees your hand. Suddenly, as if your touch burned now.
You don't make a comment, just smooth your fingers over the skin and lean back into the seat.
He stares out of the window, his palm spanning over his jaw as he props his elbow up.
Jean dreams of you. Wide awake. Right now, he wants to push your hair back. To hold your hand in his— and no, not in the way he did a moment ago. Intentional, slow, perfect — that's how he needs everything to be.
“You look like a train wreck.”
“Well good morning to you too.” You shuffle in your seat, pushing away from it till your head reaches Jean’s shoulder in a perfect angle before leaning on it.
Jean tries not to move. He watches as the grey clouds shift a slowly as they let a little amount of light pour out.
You sigh like it's not a big deal. “I'm sleepy. Good night.”
There's half a minute of silence that follows.
“Wake me up when it's time?”
He presses his lips together, eyes moving toward light. “Sure. Whatever.”
Jean dreams of you. All the time. You're not too far away when you've got your head on his shoulder. There's no veil covering it but…that shouldn't be a problem. Right now, right here he prefers your hair streaming all over his shoulder instead.
