My brother once gave a presentation in class, reading from his report. He walked to the back of the room to turn in the report in, and no longer had it in his hands. The teacher told my parents she would give him full credit, because she saw it and the presentation was good, but she was baffled because she had eyes on him the whole time and even she didn’t know where the report went.

I get the joke but I hope people are aware of how like, truly fucking horrific the healthcare is in prison when it's available at all. I know this is a nitpick, I wouldn't ordinarily bother with pointing out an inaccuracy in a joke tweet but the medical violence and neglect prisoners face is a massive problem that gets almost no attention

"Three hots and a cot" "yay free healthcare" etc all obfuscate the real violence of prison, both in the direct tangible sense that most people understand violence as plus the constant dehumanization (the arbitrary rules, the way every potential outlet for human connection is curtailed or eliminated, the routine cruelty, intentional lack of privacy, overcrowding, the stigma etc etc etc)

It’s not considered political violence to dehumanize people until they’re so ostracized by society that they take their own lives. It’s not considered political violence to make policy choices to intentionally kill people by depriving them of life saving healthcare.

It’s not considered political violence to round up people and put them in concentration camps. It’s not considered political violence to fund ethnic cleansing and genocide. Very interesting what’s considered political violence and deemed unacceptable.

It definitely isn't considered political violence to annihilate the only housing that people have and push them even further into the cycle of poverty and destitution. Or to host certain people on a podcast and talk about how trans people are evil.

Seizing vulnerable women and abusing them in detention camps? Killing people by ending their life saving medical treatments? Not giving people medications in detention centers?

But sure political violence now has gone too far…
