Happy pride month with SVSSS 😊
yue qingyuan is liu qingge’s ideal type: incredibly strong, reliable, charismatic, and really talented with the sword. shen qingqiu (jiu), on the other hand, is everything liu qingge hates in a person: he’s dishonest, self-serving, and uses underhanded methods to get what he wants. for some reason beyond liu qingge’s comprehension, these two are now cultivation partners. it works, somehow. the two of them are the happiest he’s seen them since— well, since ever.
the last thing thing he wants to do to cause a rift in their relationship. he’s always been more into night hunts and sparring than interpersonal drama. unfortunately for him, life has given him the short end of the stick this time. despite his best efforts, liu qingge ends up falling head over heels for both of them.
to make matters worse, the second he tries to distance himself is the second shen qingqiu’s slender fingers are wrapped tight around his wrist, nails digging into his skin— an action that borders on possessive. he tries to take on a longer mission and yue qingyuan rejects his request, claiming that he’s actually needed at the sect but never gives him a clear reason why.
he realizes his affections aren’t going away any time soon once he’s invited to spar with both of them and yue qingyuan pins him to the ground with ease, shen qingqiu watching the two of them like a cat that got the cream. his ears are flushed a bright red at their attention. he can’t form a single coherent thought, much less sentence, when both pairs of eyes are watching him so closely.
They're just fighting...nothing more....
Hey, wait up!!🪭

i think yue qingyuan has a lot of repressed anger. we see him have a handful of moments where he's frustrated, yes, but he is basically never actually angry. why? why isn’t he angry about the way that he was treated as a slave? why isn’t he filled with rage when he thinks about how he screamed for help in the ling xi caves and no one listened to him? why doesn’t he feel a burning hatred when he thinks of his shizun, who broke his bones and tendons and meridians? why can't he let himself take off his mask as the ever calm-and-collected sect leader and let himself be truly, genuinely angry?
oh, right. he doesn't think he's worth getting angry over. he doesn't think he deserves to be defended, protected, or even validated.
(and when he does get angry? it's not at others. it's at himself.)
thinking about this post again and how yue qingyuan very, very rarely allows himself to express anger. even in situations where he would rightfully be angry (e.g., luo binghe torturing shen qingqiu to near death and then afterwards sending his legs in a box to yqy), yqy still does not actually allow himself to get angry at others.
he is disappointed in sqq's actions, yes. he's upset about lbh hurting sqq, yes. but he isn't angry at either of them for how circumstances played out.
even when he came to lbh at the end, he didn't storm into the trap in a rage or attempt to valiantly fight lbh to the death. what do we know if fairly limited, but it's notable that shen yuan describes the thousand arrows scene as yqy "walking unflinchingly into luo binghe's trap, despite knowing there was no return."
i think this has two meanings: 1) his sacrifice is a symbol of yqy's loyalty, love, and devotion to sqq; and 2) he is furious— but only with himself.
let's think about qiu haitang's quote in svsss where she proclaims "if a single word i, qiu haitang, say from here on out is false, may my heart be pierced by ten thousand of the demons' poisonous arrows, and may i be undeserving of a peaceful death!" this quote directly references the way yue qingyuan died in PIDW, and likely also mirrors his true feelings about himself: underserving of a peaceful death.
it's pretty heavily implied, if not outright stated, that yqy does not value his life and would end it in a heartbeat if it meant that sqq would finally be at peace. this is most clearly seen in the water prison scene, where he tries to get sqq to kill him as a way for sqq to finally shed himself of his resentment and hatred. yqy fully believes that his failure to return to the qiu manor on time is why sqq made all of these bad decisions that led to his eventual torture and imprisonment. he believes that at the end of the day, he is a poison in sqq's life. if he needs to die in order for sqq to heal and move on, he'll readily accept his fate.
when he receives sqq's legs in the box, he's angry, yes, but at himself most of all. so he decides to solve the problem at its root: he walks willingly and unflinchingly into a trap, ten thousand poisonous arrows piercing his heart, for he truly believes he is undeserving of a peaceful death. and maybe, with his death, especially with a death so grim and horrific, sqq will finally be at peace.
I think a big part of why Shen Jiu is so resentful towards Yue Qingyuan is that he, Shen Jiu, just can't move on from Yue Qingyuan. It is so humiliating that he is still attached to this man who has made it clear that he does not want him in his life, who has long moved on from him. Yue Qingyuan’s "guilt" in his eyes isn't even guilt, it's pity. He thinks Yue Qingyuan can tell, somehow, and that good kind Qi-ge of course pities him, and nothing hurts his pride more. So, he lashes out. When he lashes out, Yue Qingyuan understands that he has made himself unwanted to Shen Jiu, that his betrayal has lost him any affection Xiao-Jiu ever felt for him.
I still dunno very much how does tumblr work but tysm for the support! here are some SVSSS lesbians that I made a long time ago lol
bby qijiu kiss animation i made back in December and then forgot about-
More people need to write Yue Qingyuan having ethical dilemmas about his desires towards Shen Qingqiu (Jiu) ok— like the last time they saw eachother sj was what, nine? Ten? Yue Qi basically raised him like that was his little brother. And now xiao jiu is back from the dead and all grown up and also hates him, but he still can’t help wanting him. What is he doing having these insidious lustful thoughts towards his xiao jiu?? Yue Qingyuan is truly a disgusting failure in every way. He should kill himself but he has a stupid peak to run now.
evil shang qinghua: I hit mobei jun back AND I enjoy making cucumper bro cry. Also luo binghe is no one's son. im going to stay on this mountain and make it a bureaucratic hell. hope nothing helps<3
Cangqiong Mountain Sect really only has 10 peaks but they say 12 peaks because they’re counting the grand peaks on Yue Qingyuan’s bosom.

Art trade for @thiscatdraws !! I think Shen Qingqiu would appoint himself the catty defender of the sect leader if they made up.
