i think there's a certain kind of analysis i like to do on robert small's character and overall behind his issues with being vulnerable that i really like because i mean, as 'miniscule' as the choice is between picking to sleep with him or not really emphasizes the way he percieves you (dadsona), himself and the overall relationship he should have with you; if you have the one night stand, its almost like he percieves his own romantic attractions towards you as something 'fling'-esque and not to be taken seriously??? i guess hence the 'bad ending' but if you don't have said one night stand, to me it becomes this topic of autonomy and the blind consideration that dadsona probably doesn't even realize by not doing that, because then robert's attraction for you turns into, "oh, i guess im not just a body for tonight after all" and in a sense there is more to value within that connection, and because of it, the prospect of getting closer and opening up his shell for you to peer inside and see who he actually is feels worth it?
or maybe even the fact that he's so standoffish about himself that ties into those vunerability issues, which for most people (if they're newbies to ddadds) makes it hard to see him for more than he is outside of the whole, 'bad boy' persona
i don't know honestly but sometimes i look back at my tween self when i just got into ddadds and find it so baffling that i never enjoyed robert more, because i love him so much more now + i understand the whole appeal of 'taking care of the grimy skrunkly old man'
+ in my humble opinion, smallmarch is healthier for that cryptic searching weirdo's heart than roseph will ever be (im not sorry)
