Releasing in May 2026 with worldwide shipments expected in June 2026, "Tezuka Osamu Animation Art Archives" is a collection that includes 800 pages of original drawings, rough sketches, and storyboards made by Osamu Tezuka for his animation projects.
Genkosha details the book:
Most of the materials in this book were drawn by Tezuka himself, and many of them are appearing in print for the first time. While his involvement with each project varied, Tezuka's diverse materials range from rough sketches to setting drawings, image boards, layouts, storyboards, and original drawings. In addition to the artwork, there are also written materials such as proposals, synopses, and scripts.
While previous books on [Osamu Tezuka]'s anime have primarily been text-based and often feature black-and-white illustrations, this book primarily features color. With the exception of image boards, which are drawn in color to share the worldview of the work, most of the anime-related materials are black-and-white line drawings, but there are also some colored sections and instructions written in red or blue. The color presentation also allows you to appreciate the texture of the original drawings, including discoloration and corrections that occur over time.
Volume 1 includes valuable materials such as original drawings, setting drawings, and storyboards from TV anime works from the 1960s and early 1970s including Astro Boy, Jungle Emperor Leo, and Princess Knight.
Volume 2 includes valuable materials related to television anime works from the late 1970s and 1980s, two-hour animated specials broadcast on NTV's "24-Hour Television," feature-length theatrical works, pilot episodes created for project proposals, and experimental works.
This collection includes six exclusive bonus postcards based on materials from Tezuka's anime series, including Astro Boy, Marvelous Melmo, and Jungle Emperor Leo.
