The D.C. Consolidated Forensic Laboratory (CFL), with its shiny solar-shading panels and green roof, was a model of sustainability and efficiency when it opened with LEED Platinum certification in 2012. But only five months later, cracks in its green-glass faƧade had quickly appeared.
In March 2013, the Washington Post released photos of unpacked boxes, flammable chemicals in glass jugs crammed into sinks and āgeneral clutterā in the evidence room. Allegations had also surfaced that the undermanned staff had to dry blood-stained clothing on sheets of paper on floors and countertops.
