The first book I’ll be reading and posting about was written by Paul Stamets in 1996: Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World: An Identification Guide, with forward written by Andrew Weil, M.D.

Paul Stamets is a renowned American mycologist who received an honorary Doctorates degree in Mycology, as he left college upon receiving a bachelor’s degree. Prior to and during this time, Stamets taught himself much of what he knows of fungi in his home state of Washington throughout the late-mid century boom of psilocybin mushroom growth. Stamets now cultivates and distributes supplemental mushroom products throughout the country with his business, Fungi Perfecti.

Fun fact!! The character of Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets of Star Trek: Discovery was largely based on his real-world counterpart. The character of Lt. Commander Stamets is an Astromycologist who completes research over extraterrestrial fungi-like organisms throughout the run of the show!

Allow me to preface this page by saying this now!

I am in NO way a professional, nor a mycologist by trade. I am a struggling, poor college student, living in a conservative place, of whom has recently fostered an interest in learning about Fungi and their properties.

This page is not meant to be used as a professional reference or educational source, by any means. This is an opportunity for me to learn, and for others to learn alongside and offer new information of mushrooms and other fungi!

This is also NOT a place to discuss the use of illegal or otherwise unavailable psychoactive substances. Discussing history and politics concerning Fungi is one thing. Acquiring or ingesting them illegally is a whole ‘nother court that I don’t wish to play ball in!

This will also be a bit of an appreciation blog, as I find little things I love about fungi and feel the need to share!
