Why do The Gazette use so much Jewish symbolism; Hannaka minnoras, Star of Davids etc in their presentations - and whats with their interest in teddy bears ?
Ruki loves using religious symbols for the aesthetic. I doubt it's any deeper than that. Everyone can decide how they feel about it themselves I guess. I think it's harmless although it is kinda ignorant and unnecessary. And teddy bears just seem to be their thing. Fans like them and they sell so why not keep doing it.
Hi !! To be honest, I don't really care about the sexual orientation of the members of the GazettE, but I think your last post regarding Ruki's way of talking in his songs and interviews was really interesting. I am curious about the other member's ways to talk in interviews ?
they kinda don’t. like they say things and they have their own speech patterns (uruha talks weird, aoi speaks with a heavy dialect and slang, reita is just a typical dude and kai is a professional) but they don’t go as deep as ruki does. the only reason we have so much on ruki is because he opens himself up in lyrics. the other members don’t have that.

This is a stupid question I know, and I know you don't really want to talk about it but I'd just love to hear your thoughts because I like stewing on Ruki as a person, since he's the one making the music I love/loved for so long. Anyway, do you think Ruki writing in a woman's perspective is related to him being something like gender fluid? Do you think he questions his gender? It honestly also makes me a little happy that he could be bi/ bi curious since I am but yada yada to that & thank you!~
this is a bit harder to answer but let me try. first of all: yes, it’s definitely a possibility. it always is, no matter who we are talking about. never assume complete heteronormativity, but don’t assume anything else either.
this is one of those topics that are like... super invasive if i really get into it and i don’t want that. but at the same time ruki’s constant toying with gender is interesting. and i’m not saying that he is toying with gender wearing lipstick and high heels. it’s not that uncommon. visual kei as a scene breaks the traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity anyway so where is the line of doing it as a performance and it actually coming from a more personal perspective?at this point i need to give a quick explanation on gendered speech in japanese because it’s very relevant to what ruki does. you know how in english the SPEAKERS gender does not come up when they speak. your gender is revealed only when someone speaks to or about you and has to choose between “he” and “she” (or “they” for neutral). so basically when you speak english, you yourself have no authority over how your gender is represented in speech (unless you tell the other person to use a specific pronouns when talking to/about you). in japanese it’s the opposite. you gender your own speech. there are multiple different ways to say “i” or “me” and some of them are feminine, some are masculine, some are neutral. the same goes to the word “you”. the point here is that you choose how feminine, masculine or neutral you want your speech to be and then choose those words. you can mix and match or go based on your mood. feminine words are not just for girls to use and masculine version are not just for boys. it has nothing to do with the biological sex of the speaker, just if they want to be seen more masculine or more feminine at that moment. so here is where we get to ruki. he uses the feminine words and phrases a lot. that’s why most people assume that okay this song must be from a woman’s point of view. but in reality that assumption is not quite fair? except when ruki actually says in an interview that yes this was from a woman’s point of view. EXAMPLE. kaoru asanuma is a gay man as you all probably know. he uses feminine language from time to time. that does not make kaoru asanuma a woman. it just means that he wants to present himself in a more feminine way. (the problem here is also the fact that in japanese culture there is a little difference between being trans and being gay. if you are a gay man then you must want to be a woman because you like men. if you are a gay woman then you must want to be a man because you like women. see what i’m saying?)
at this point i should probably also mention that in most interviews etc ruki talks in a very masculine way. it’s pretty much only his songs where the feminine point of view comes up. maybe it’s his outlet for exploring that side of himself? that doesn’t even have to mean he is genderfluid, could just mean that he is interested in gender. but it also could mean that. not my place to say either way. (also hey! i’m a cis person who’s sexuality is really not up for discussion in here but basically i would not call myself a part of the lgbt-community. if any of you do, and you feel like this topic is not cool and should not be discussed like this, please let me know! also if i said something offensive. i promise that is not my intention and i just wanted to explain how deep the analysis of his lyrics can go. however, i realize that as a cis person i’m going to fuck up every once in a while no matter how respectable i try to be and i do deserve to be called out if/when that happens. so if i should delete these posts or correct something in them - please let me know!)

i don’t feel comfortable answering that. i feel like it’s not my place to comment on his mental health :/ i know it’s not my place to comment on his sexuality either re: the previous asks and i kinda regret publishing that but a) i was high and didn’t have the best judgement at that moment b) i hope people understand that while i sometimes think about ruki’s sexuality since his lyrics are often very sexual and from very different perspectives i still am not like.. openly declaring anything about him. i respect his right to keep that personal.
i just think it’s interesting. because he has written so many songs about sex and sexuality and relationships from a woman’s point of view. and the point of view in that case kind of matters. is it a straight man just projecting his own ideas of what a woman’s sexuality is on his work? is it offensive to women or is it trying to be understanding and sympathetic? and if he is not straight then why write songs from a woman’s point of view? is it actually supposed to be more about the object of the song - the man?
with that argument i could also say that yeah ruki’s mental health can also be questioned i guess. i just feel like that’s... a lot more personal to discuss? honestly the thing i’m most comfortable is talking about ruki’s political views. because he has plenty of those and i’m actually interested in where he stands on certain issues.
just wanna say i completely stopped listening to gazette and caring at all about jrock but i still follow this blog and your blog cause i really really admire you like i think you're really great

trauma-radio is closed. but don't worry. i'm not deleting this blog and all the translations can still be found here. i haven't been active here for a very long time and it's not going to change. i recently moved into new york city and i'm starting university this month and i want to focus on that. i hope you understand. the gazette fandom has been like a home to me for the past i don't even know how many years (i'm closing in on ten) but it's time for me to move on. i will always love the band and when they do something new i'm sure i will be talking about it on my twitter but i'm done with being an active member of the fandom. i'd like to thank you all for the support you showed for this blog. reading your tags after posting something was the best thing ever and i admit i still sometimes stalk them if i need to be cheered up. when i told kii i'm thinking about stopping translating i almost cried (okay i did) because it's been such a huge part of my life. but like i said, it's time for new things for me. if you need me i will be on twitter, instagram, my main tumblr and ask.fm. love you all. thank you so much for everything.

I was wondering why you translated 青い as youthful instead of blue on "Last Heaven" ^-^
ah, it's because about 99% of the time when ruki uses it he means it's as 'naive' or 'youthful' because it's another meaning for the word (yes they say that you are blue if they mean your and young and not yet understanding the world!). last heaven is about like--- being eternal(ly young) and wanting to like-- shine forever like the stars you know? and the carousel he talks about means the stars and the planets and how they have always been like that and always will be and how the person in the song (=ruki) wants to be like that too. the interesting thing about this is that this time i think that the actually might have meant both meanings of the word. like, it's also literally blue because they sky is blue. so i probably should have translated it as "youthful, blue carousel".
