This waterfall is often referred to by the locals as Batu Ko( buffalo rock ). According to locals, Sendang Gile used to be a place for angels to bathe when they came down to earth . There is also an opinion that this name comes from someone who discovered this waterfall indirectly while hunting a lion who entered the forest after disrupting a village . The villagers locals call lion mad as Sengang Gile , however, gradually the pronunciation becomes "Sendang Gile" . The locals believe that bathing or washing one's face in the Sendang Gile waterfall, will make a person one hundred years older than his actual age.
