How to identify a licensed taxi in Taiwan

Let’s start with one of the most important questions, which is how to identify a licensed taxi in Taiwan. Before you came here, you might have searched on the internet or maybe someone told you that taxi cars in Taiwan are yellow. However, you need more than that to identify a licensed taxi driver. Not all the yellow cars here are taxis. These are the following ways you can tell a licensed taxi:

Taxi fees are determined by a meter that can be seen next to the driver.

How much is the taxi fare in Taiwan?

If you are comparing the taxi fees to other public transportation in Taiwan, you will say they are expensive. However, compared to taxis in the rest of the world, they are considered cheap. In Taiwan, a taxi can take four people at once (or more, it all depends on the driver) and the fares are slightly different throughout the country, but in general, taxi fares are determined by a meter.

Taxi charges are generally the same everywhere around Taipei, except for suburbs or mountain areas. The first 1.25km is charged NT$ 70 plus NT$ 5 for every 200 meters in the daytime. If you take a taxi from 11pm to 6am, they will charge you NT$ 20 extra on top of the original price (nighttime rate). During the Chinese Lunar New Year, if you take a taxi during the day, they will charge you at the nighttime rate, and if you get into a taxi at night, it will be even more expensive (up to NT$ 40 more).

Most taxis only accept cash payments, so make sure you always carry cash with you. If not, you can always go to any convenience store near you to withdraw money. However, some taxi companies also accept credit cards. Those who do will usually have a sticker on their windows showing VISA/MASTERCard signs, or you can pay with your Taiwan Easy Card. If you are traveling to another city by taxi, the fares will not be calculated by the meter, so you will have to discuss the price with your taxi driver.

10/13 confirmed to implement the 0+7 plan!

CECC has announced that starting from 10/13, the entry policy will change to 0+7 plan.

Phase 1

Policies taking effect on September 29th:

a) Arriving passengers undergoing the "3 + 4" quarantine scheme will be able to spend the entire seven-day period in a residence with others as long as they can follow the "one person per room" principle. b) There will be no more on-arrival saliva tests; instead, four (4) rapid antigen test kits will be given to passengers. c) Additionally, all reciprocating countries will receive visa-free entry.

Phase 2

Policies taking effect on October 13th:

1. 150,000 passengers will be allowed to arrive weekly. 2. Inbound travelers no longer need to be quarantined but must complete 7 days of self-initiated epidemic prevention (one person per room), and if you are going out during this period, you need to be tested negative within 2 days. 3. Opening borders to travelers from countries that do not have visa-free travel. 4. If asymptomatic, inbound visitors can use all means of public transportation. 5. An end to the ban on tour groups. 6. You do not have to fill out the Quarantine System for Entry before arriving in Taiwan, and do not need to buy a sim card again.

Oct. 13 is estimated to be the end of Taiwan's quarantine!

Taiwan's Premier Su Tseng-chang has announced that the "0 + 7" system will be implemented on Oct. 13, as well as the expansion of visa-free entry to more nations and the lifting of the tourist ban. Phase 1: Policies taking effect on September 29th: a) Arriving passengers undergoing the "3 + 4" quarantine scheme will be able to spend the entire seven-day period in a residence with others as long as they can follow the "one person per room" principle. b)There will be no more on-arrival saliva tests; instead, four (4) rapid antigen test kits will be given to passengers. c)Additionally, all reciprocating countries will receive visa-free entry. Phase 2: Following the implementation of these policies, Su stated that the situation with the local outbreak will be monitored for a week. In the event that conditions are deemed appropriate, the "0 + 7" scheme will be launched two days after the announcement of the policy, which he estimates will be October 13. Under the 0+7 plan : a)150,000 passengers will be allowed to arrive weekly. b) Opening borders to travelers from countries that do not have visa-free travel. c) An end to the ban on tour groups. d) If asymptomatic, inbound visitors can use all means of public transportation.
