Edit this to be a celebration of all three boys making it through their neuter... Quinn and Teagan before their post-neuter isolation period ends this morning. Jasper was on my bed when I took this, but the three boys have spent the whole time with me trying to find ways to all share my space simultaneously.
Movie Mondays: Temporarily removed a previous video of Cas to fix an issue with it. So in the meantime, here she is saying hi!
Wildlife Wednesday: I live in a rural area now, in some ways similar to my hometown. But while I loved looking for frogs and garter snakes as a kid, one of my first discoveries here was lizards like this one! They're quick movers so I rarely get good photos of them--but I often see them on my porch or the outside of the house, and that's fun since I didn't grow up around them.
Sunday snapshot: Quinn standing proud after many outtakes. He likes to follow the camera back and forth so that he's constantly outside the frame--but here he's starting to show his 'little lion man' heritage.
Movie Mondays: Quinn and I, trying to use TikTok for the first time. (It has garnered zero views, so I suspect we did not use it successfully.)
Introducing Movie Mondays
Because I just launched a TikTok account, I don't understand TikTok, and all it made me want to do is run back to the warm embrace of this place I already know and understand. But it also got me finally dealing with videos. And I have so many to share!
Sunday snapshot: Rhee pausing her busy work of showing love through stabbing in order to take control of her own narrative (aka grab my phone).
Five Facts Friday: Rhee Enais!!
With the most interesting tortie coloring I've ever seen, she's also got hidden pale fur that's tucked under her chin and down her belly. She strongly resembles Athena, a childhood cat beloved by @actuallylukedanes's twin, who chose Rhee's middle name.
Huge fan of comfort and luxury. Spent a lot of her initial time in the cat bed, then was the first kitten to explore mine. Started napping on my bed long before she trusted me.
Smallest of all the kittens Fai brought last year, she's still tiny for her age. Contains more fierceness than her lil body should have room for, though! Claws always out, even when making biscuits, and has attempted to climb me like a tree (with some success).
Has grown into more elegance these days, but had such a little monkey face as a baby! Visible especially in her wide-eyed early photos, because she always sensed the camera immediately, then froze. Now she holds still by choice, as if regally granting our appreciation of her likeness.
Her theme song is based on Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon," and I fudge the syllables a little to make her middle name fit. She's on the fence about whether she likes music yet, so each time I sing it to her she listens very neutrally--but she enjoys the attention.
Wildlife Wednesday: As promised last week, here is Roger the raccoon back in December. He snuffled his way in through the cat door and curled up like this, as the kittens watched from various spots in the house.
Then Roger proceeded to have a brief nap, while trying his hardest to convince everyone he was simply the newest Big Weird Cat to join the family. Nothing to see here, just a previously undiscovered breed--don't think too hard about it!
Sunday snapshot(s): Blaire and Bly, just after midnight. Wherever he is, she can often be found following right behind, as though she believes he must be her father rather than her big brother.
Wildlife Wednesday: Time to introduce you all to Roger, our friendly neighborhood raccoon! He is incredibly gentle and timid and has tried for months now to figure out how to become a cat, and therefore be accepted into the family. This is a recent photo of him--next week I will post one where he does his best imitation of a catnap.
Five Facts Friday: Shay Ursa!!
Has been a gremlin child since birth, but is also our resident muppet baby. What a face.
Nodded off in such alarming ways when we first met her that I wondered if kittens could have narcolepsy; she still has some of those moments today.
Has multiple theme songs based on her name, recognizes them when we sing them to her, and responds to them--when she feels like it.
Has grown up to be a wonderfully mature (if still diminutive) adult compared to her wild childhood...but unleashes lightning-fast claws and teeth if given the chance.
Loves to sleep curled up in a bathroom sink, spare bathtub, or on a bathmat. Really anywhere in a bathroom where she might startle a sleepy human in the middle of the night!

Because it's time to add a new weekly feature, so how about one where you get just a bit of detail on one of the stars of this show?
Sunday snapshot: Cam and Sal! A portrait of father and daughter as guard cats. Despite being born and raised elsewhere, they both firmly believe this land now all belongs to them.
Sunday snapshot: Jasper testing out my lap for the first time! He enjoyed the new experience--but because he is a restless Boy of Action, he quickly abandoned the cuddle and decided to lick my face instead.
Sunday snapshot: Quinn cuddles at 3am! Right after this, he stomped over to my laptop keyboard, laid down on it, and insisted I get my priorities in order and pay attention only to him for the foreseeable future.
Oakley Theo is today's birthday boy!!
After spending a lot of my day with him, I was going to spend some time tonight telling you all about how he became a part of our family. But then we had a power outage that lasted more then 2 hours, and I ran out of energy.
So what's most important is that our eldest cat is now officially (around) 10 years old, and while he found us later in his life, we're very very grateful that he did. He's a sweet boy with a youthful spirit who has spent his time in our family healing from abuse and learning to trust again--and he's been very successful at bonding with us all.
These photos are from his birthday party with me today, where he got special lunch and enjoyed window time while I read a book. I adore that handsome face of his, and how thrilled he is whenever I tell him so. :)
