He takes the board and writes out his name and number in clear, concise cursive. After doing that, he hands it back over to the woman with a charming smile. “Here you are. Thank you very much for your impeccable service, Miss…?” Upon realizing that he did not know her name, nor was she wearing any form of identification, he pauses uncertainly.

Lily takes the board off him with a friendly smile, quickly glancing down at the row containing his details. Max de Sainte-Coquille... Somehow, the name seemed fitting to his regal demeanour. His handwriting, too, matched her first impression of him.

“Thank you! I’ll send you a message as soon as your item is ready for collection.”

Realising he was waiting for her name, she added, “Lily! Lily Amari. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr de Sainte-Coquille!” She certainly hoped she had pronounced that right... It certainly sounded foreign, though she couldn’t pinpoint an exact origin. “I do hope your product will live up to your expectations upon its completion.”

The cool night air was nice- nice to catch the scent of whatever mischief Dylas was up to that is.

The blue haired teen was heading up the hill Lily was on, knowing the way to get into the school in secret from the hillside. While he wasn’t going for the kind of fun Lily had anticipated, he couldn’t help but notice the girl he had rarely seen around the city looking sad and just as left out as he had.

He stalked up to her, bag of tricks in hand, and tilted his head curiously. Clicking his tongue a few times and shaking his head, he gave a wry smile.

“Now see, I understand why I wasn’t invited, but I never expected a pretty girl like you not to at least get a date. Come on- lets have some fun at least!”

He jangled the bag gently, and held out his hand.

“I’ll be your date tonight dear! We’ll show them not to notice such a pretty girl like you!”

With her eyes fixed on the last few entering the school building, she hadn’t noticed the approach of a figure and started slight when a male voice broke the quiet of night. Looking at him from where she was sat, it was difficult to discern how tall he was, but he looked to be taller than her. His hair was blue, though it showed no signs of being dyed. He was dressed to attend the homecoming dance... but that made no sense, if his words were true.

“Why... weren’t you invited?” she asked, cocking her head to the side. Her reason was obvious, of course -- she’d never attended Trinity Academy. But she was fairly certain this boy did. So if he wasn’t invited... maybe she should be slightly wary.

She laughed at his offer, gesturing down to her outfit. Her year-old jeans, plain white v-neck and red tartan scarf was hardly homecoming attire. “I hardly think I’m dressed for the event,” she said to him, her lips curving into a smile. “But thanks, anyway. I’m Lily.”

Her eyes dropped down to the bag he was swinging in his left hand. It was an odd shape; not what you’d typically expect to take to a dance, which should surely be nothing more than your phone and wallet.

“What’s in the bag?” she asked, unable to hold back her curiosity.

Evening Meal [Request]

Now this is something he could do– what could possible go wrong with heating up soup? He takes a quick gulp of the water, putting the glass in the sink when emptied and moves back to the cabinet that had the pots. With a reasonable sized pot placed onto the cook top, he holds his thermos in one hand and another on his hip.

“Okay, Mark, ya’ messed up the first time now you better make up for it!” He mutters under his breath, almost like a mantra before extracting the noodles into the pot. “It’ll be smooth sailing from here on out!”

And thank the Harvest Goddess it does because soon enough he’s walking out of the kitchen looking as proud as ever holding tray with everything he’s made– warming up the soup, boiling the water for her tea, getting the cutlery, he’s managed it. He sets it down in front of her with a hum, mentally giving him pat on the back.

“Hope ya’ like chicken noodle soup, it’s a family recipe!” He says. “Well, technically. I found it online when I searched up a recipe, it was on someone’s blog under Mom’s Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup. So, it’s some other family’s recipe!” He grabs one of her chairs and drags it closer to where she sat. “Also got made you some tea ‘cause your throat hurt, right? Not too sure what it is, but it’s herbal!”

Lily could smell the soup before the blond brought it out, and her stomach rumbled in anticipation. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d had a hot meal. When he appeared from the kitchen several minutes later, a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup on a tray, she could barely stop herself from reaching out eagerly to take it before he could set it down. He’d also brought her a mug of tea -- peppermint, her favourite.

“Thank you so much,” she said, taking the spoon and scooping up some of the hot liquid. She had to remind herself to blow on it -- the last thing she wanted to accompany her sore throat was a burnt tongue. “Have you ever considered becoming a nurse?” she asked him playfully. “If not, it’s certainly a viable career option.”

She carefully sipped the soup from the spoon. It was amazing, better than any soup she’d ever made herself. It instantly warmed her entire shivering body.

“This is delicious! You made this yourself?” She paused to take another spoonful. “Are you not hungry? Help yourself to anything in the kitchen, if you are. I can’t thank you enough for this.”

At eighteen years old, the magical appeal of homecoming had surpassed Lily. She’d never actually been to one, having never attended Trinity Academy, but in younger years she’d dreamed of meeting a mysterious boy who would whisk her away to the dance. She would lie on the wooden floor of their apartment, carefully drawing her perfect dress with her tongue stuck out in concentration. Probably a little pathetic for a girl of 14 years old, but it’s not like she’d ever tell anybody but Will of this detail.

Still, it wasn’t as though she had anything better to do that night. Lily sat on a grassy hill just outside the school, hidden from those milling outside by the cover of nighttime. She watched people arrive with their dates or friends in beautiful dresses, taking photographs together under the lights. The ravenette pulled her jean-clad knees up to her chin and rested her head on them, wishing for once that the denim would transform into chiffon like a story about a princess she’d once read.

Maybe she wasn’t as over the fairytale of dances as she’d thought.

Growing up, she’d never had any nice clothes. Her father bought her only the necessities, and wasted the rest of his money on gambling. Lily had earned a bit of money for herself from selling her findings in the mines, but she was saving that up so she could finally leave this city. But it was times like this that she was tempted to blow her bank on a pretty dress like the girl by Will’s side was wearing.

Wrapping her hands up in her tartan scarf, she watched as most people disappeared into the school building, out of her view.

Usually when Will came to the clearing, which he did more often than any of his nannies would be happy to hear about, he was alone. Okay, to be fair, he was always alone in the clearing, so when a voice sounded somewhere behind him, the child’s first reaction was to freeze up in surprise. Maybe it was because he hadn’t yet learned any lessons regarding strangers, but he wasn’t particularly scared. The forest was dark and creepy, but he was there often enough that it wasn’t enough to make the child think in a way that, perhaps, would have been good for him in that moment.

The blond straightened up, dropping his crayon onto his paper and twisted around to get a look at whoever had found his clearing. Surprisingly, the sight of the girl, around his own age, brought his smile back to him: though whether this was because she was a child as well or because he really needed to learn to avoid strangers was hard to tell.

But more important than his naivety was the fact she was there! Maybe she’d be willing to play with him? Why wouldn’t she, why would anyone go into the forest if not to play? And he knew for a fact playing by yourself wasnt’t fun so of course she’d agree! Obviously!

“Hello~!” He didn’t hesitate to jump into a swarm of questions, inane and curious in nature. Where she was shy and obviously upset, though he hadn’t picked up either fact, he was bubbly and naive and completely unaware of how strange this was. “Who are you~? How did  you get here~? Why’re you just standing over there, c’mere~!”

But oh… she did looked sad the child realized. Why, though? Should he help her? His father would be mad at him if he found out he hadn’t, not that he would find out either way, but how was he supposed to help her. He was just ten, after all.Maybe Baba could help? Having the stuffed animal usually helped him… well, sort of. Not really.But he was still young enough to be able to pretend it did.

Lily blinked in confusion at the young boy as his barrage of questions hit her. She’d never seen him before. Her papa always told her not to talk to strangers... But papa wasn’t here right now, and the child couldn’t ignore this opportunity to make a friend. A friend her own age, too!

“U-um... My name is Lily. What’s yours? I don’t know how I got here... I was trying to explore, and go on an adventure, but I don’t think I’m very good at it.” She looked down at her shoes sadly, which were caked in dirt from her short trek through the forest. She shyly approached the boy as he gestured enthusiastically for her to come over, a small smile coming onto her face despite the wetness beneath her eyes. Looking behind him, she saw a stuffed animal, and her smile grew.

“Is that yours?” she asked. Stupid question, perhaps, as they were the only two in the clearing and it certainly wasn’t hers. “I always go to look at the big ones in the shops, but my papa says we don’t need one.”

He would never buy her the things she wanted -- she’d long since given up hope and stopped asking for them. Instead, she wandered around shops, staring at all the toys and wistfully imagining the day she would have her own money to buy them, and tell papa he couldn’t have the things he wanted. That would teach him.

“Does he have a name?” she asked, still looking at the teddy bear.

Today I visited the library in hopes of finding something out about gems that would assist me when mining, but I found nothing. However, as I was leaving, I noticed another girl leaving without a coat or umbrella. I decided to ask if she’d like me to walk her home, and I’m certainly glad I did!

Her name is Rosalind, and she was lovely to talk to. She was researching to find a cure for the common cold but hadn’t had much luck either. It would be fantastic if she found a cure for that wretched virus.

I received her phone number, and I would very much like to meet up with her again for a chat... Hopefully in warmer circumstances.

Rainy Days || Rosalind & Lily

Oh, that was an interesting fact! Rosalind knew of the accessory shop, though she herself had not yet had any chance to stop by, she certainly had an excuse to now. Firstly: She could get some lovely new accessories and secondly she could come and see her new… Friend, she guessed. 

“I do!” She smiled brightly, “I own a lovely emerald necklace, and a few other pieces gifted to me over the years. I’ll definitely stop by, you can help me pick out a new necklace!” 

As they got closer to Rosalind’s home the weather actually began to clear up a little, the rain more a drizzle than the downpour it was earlier. And whilst still miserable out, she felt a lot better knowing that Lily wouldn’t be walking home in the torrential downpour. 

“Oh yes! The first thing I’m going to do is put the kettle on.” She laughed, “Thank you for walking me home, next time I’ll definitely bring my umbrella!” She paused, reaching into her bag and pulling out her phone, “Here, take my number, I’d love to get together again soon. If you’d like?” She looked curiously at the woman, “Hopefully when the weather is better.”

Lily shuffled the umbrella into her weaker hand as she reached into her rucksack for her phone. “Yes, absolutely! Hopefully we’ll be able to converse in a warmer, less miserable environment.”

Stabbing at the screen with her thumb, Lily entered the phone number she was given and saved it under the girl’s name. She sent a quick text to the number reading only “Lily” so that Rosalind could save her number without the ravenette having to find it and read it aloud (she could never remember the damned thing).

“It was lovely to meet you!” she said with a bright smile, and waved to the blue-haired girl as she entered her apartment complex. She may not have found what she was looking for in the library, but she’d at least made a new friend. Lily turned and walked in the direction of her own home, feeling a little bit brighter herself.

“This... this isn’t true!” Lily muttered to herself, her eyes fixed on the piece of gossip published in the newspaper. Okay, sure, her room wa slightly disorganised because she didn’t have enough space to put everything. And maybe she kept a lot of stuff from her treasure hunting days. But none of that was junk! It all had sentimental value attached... She couldn’t just let it go!

Lily huffed, folding up the newspaper and slamming it down on her dining table. Some people just could not appreciate her collection.

Flicking through the newspaper, Lily couldn’t help but notice the name of her newly acquired business on one of the pages. She was even more surprised to find it in the gossip section, a page she rarely read thoroughly. And her own name was printed right beside it. Reading the gossip, her heart dropped a few inches in her chest before logic kicked in.

She checked stock at the store every day before she left work. All had been in order when she’d checked everything earlier this afternoon -- it was unlikely she’d accidentally miss 500,000G worth of goods. So unless this had happened between 4pm and now... It was almost impossible that this was true.

Still, Lily grabbed her coat and her keys. She wouldn’t sleep well without knowing for sure.

Max inspects the displayed jewelry with a curious eye. While he looked the look of all of them, he found the ring to be particularly charming. He wouldn’t wear it himself, of course, but it would certainly make a wonderful gift.

His decision made, he looks towards the woman with a kind smile. “I’ve decided to choose the ring, Miss! Since I’m supplying the jewel, it will cost 2800G, you say?” As he asks this, he pulls the aforementioned amount from his wallet, waiting for clarification from the appraiser.

Lily allowed him time to muse, waiting patiently behind the counter whilst she glanced down at some of the documents she’d left there. There was an employee rota, too. Was it just her, or were her hours steadily increasing week by week? Ah, well, it wasn’t as though she disliked her job or had anything better to do.

His voice brought her out of her thoughts, and she smiled brightly at the customer with a nod of confirmation. “2800G, that’s correct.” She accepts the payment off him with a word of thanks. “Unfortunately, it takes some time for the product to be made, but we have few orders in currently so I would estimate we could have it done in...” She considered production and delivery times for a second. “5 working days? I hope that won’t be a problem -- if you need the piece urgently, I could try my best to speed it up for you.”

She picked up the orders clipboard from next to the cash register and passed it to the blond man. “If I could please take a name and contact number, I can alert you when your order is ready for collection.”

So she didn’t have much experience. Well, that was fine. When Raguna made the request – which literally everyone in town could see and take – he wasn’t expecting everyone who took it to be natural green thumbs. That was what training was for, after all! He matches her laugh, “Well hey, at least you have some! Caring for house plants is still gardening, you know? And on top of that, you’re a quick learner, too? Well, I doubt you’ll have any problems, then!”

Raguna nods as she continues to speak, his brow raising once she brought up the topic of mines. “Oh, so… did you use to be a miner or something?” That was the only reason he could think of as to why she would spend so much time in caves in the like. Unless she was some kind of explorer, or archeologist? Either way, he was glad she wasn’t afraid of some dirt, since this job had a lot of it.

At her question, he follows her gaze to the trees around them and nods, pride gleaming in his eyes. “Thanks! And pretty much… well, I guess it was owned by someone else a long time ago, but I guess they left at some point. I found this place – abandoned – a few months back and decided, ‘hey, I’ve always wanted a farm of my own, so why not take this place on as a sort of stepping stone towards that goal’? Plus, all those dead trees, stumps, rocks, weeds, the overgrown grass… it was a real shame to see such a nice patch of nature going to waste like that, so I felt I had to do something, you know?”

He smiles and takes a deep breath – taking in the sweet smell of fruit and freshly cut grass around them – before turning to look at Lily. “So, I can teach you about tree care and fruit picking and jam making and all that good stuff right now, if you want? Just tell me what you want to know first.”

“I’m hoping I’ll be able to pick it up fairly quickly! I wouldn’t want this to be a waste of your time, or anything, but it shouldn’t be a problem.” She smiled warmly at the man. “Ah... not quite a miner, no. It was more of an exploration type of thing, though I did do some mining whilst I was down there!”

Although she wasn’t ashamed by her previous profession in any way, she decided not to go into too much detail about it with a potential employer. She wouldn’t want him to see her as someone who didn’t take their job seriously, after all, and the ‘treasure hunter’ title could come off that way for some.

“Wow! That’s amazing. It was completely abandoned when you found it?” Lily looked around again. The plot of land showed no evidence of its previous overgrown self Raguna had described. It was almost pristine. “It looks fantastic, you’ve done a really great job with it!” she told him, with a sincere smile.

“Well, I’d certainly like to know all of it, if you have the time, but... Let’s start with jam making, perhaps?” She chose this option because it was the most unfamiliar to her. Fruit picking seemed to be fairly self-explanatory, though there could be a specific way they did it at the orchard, and tree care she’d had a small amount of experience with when caring for house plants. But she’d never even attempted to make a jam, and had no idea how one might go about it. Was there some type of special machinery?

Rosalind nodded appreciatively, looking over at the girl next to her. “Thank you! If,” She paused, “No, when. When I discover the cure, I’ll be sure to let you know!” Rosalind laughed softly, “Yes, I’m glad too. Thank you, again, by the way. This is really very kind of you to go out of your way for a stranger.”

While Rosalind’s main interest was never in gems, they were pretty, and she had a good enough knowledge of them - From her own research and simply the fact that she grew up in a wealthy family, she was around gems quite often, she owned some. (Well, she owned jewelled jewellery) 

“Emerald.” Her answer didn’t require any thought, they’d always been her favourite, her family and friends had always told her how much her eyes were similar to the colour of emeralds. “But I like all gems. I think they’re all so pretty!”

The rain actually seemed like it might be letting up a little bit, which was certainly good, not least because she’d already bought Lily out of her way in order to walk her home. As the duo dodged a puddle Rosalind spoke: “When you’re on your way back make sure to be careful of more puddles. No one likes wet socks!”

“Please be sure to!” Lily responded eagerly, in reference to being notified when the woman found a cure. Just thinking of the possibilities, if a common cold could be cured instantly instead of suffering with symptoms for a week...! It would be quite the feat to achieve, and Rosalind would surely earn a profit from her efforts.

“Emeralds certainly are gorgeous, I can see why you like them. Do you own many pieces of emerald jewellery?” Looking at the girl, Lily was certain the gem would bring out the green tones in the girl’s eyes. “If you’re ever in search of any, I actually work over at Crystalline Accessories, and I know we have some in stock there!” Lily laughed light-heartedly after this unintention promotion of her workplace.

They were nearly at Sunshine Apartments now, just passing the Residential Area on their right. It was a shame that their journey together was almost over. Lily had enjoyed the short walk much more than she’d expected.

“I’ll be sure to! It’s not too far of a walk anyway, thankfully, but any distance is a chore in this miserable weather.” Lily sighed. “Make sure you warm up when you get inside! A hot cup of tea or coffee sounds brilliant right now.”

Ordinary Day || Raven & ???

“Is there a problem if I don’t?” Raven snapped back as her eyebrows furrowed. Why did this woman even care? Raven had never seen her before, so she didn’t have a reason to approach her. 

Raven paused. Maybe saying that would just bring trouble. Raven usually had a sword with her since she couldn’t turn into her other form when she got into trouble in the city. She didn’t think she would have to do that in the forest with a bunch of monsters, especially since she didn’t think that humans would be wandering there. But to a human, she looked stupid.

“I mean…I have something,” Raven said after a pause, “Just not…” She fell silent, not knowing what else to say.

Lily didn’t react to the red-haired woman’s outburst of anger. She kept her expression steady and straight, the method she found most effective when dealing with people like this.

“There’s certainly a problem for you,” she responded calmly, “if you get attacked with no hope of defending yourself. I suppose it doesn’t affect me too much, though the feeling of guilt if it was your face on the news tomorrow headlining another attack wouldn’t be too pleasant. So yes, I do believe there’s an issue.”

Perhaps she shouldn’t care so much about this stranger that clearly had no desire to be assisted, but for some reason this fact sparked Lily’s stubborn character to want to help more.

“Something?” The ravenette waited for details, though none came. She remained quiet for a few seconds, mulling over what she could mean. Some sort of concealed weapon Lily couldn’t see? Some sort of magic? Ah, well, it wasn’t her place to pry... as much as her curiosity may be urging her to.

“Well this... ‘something’. Will it protect you if you are to be attacked?”

Her sudden appearance makes him squeal, dropping pan on floor in the process. He whips his head towards her, hand clutching his chest and almost pouts. Almost because he stops himself by biting onto his inner cheek.

Mark watches, wordlessly, as she opens one of the cupboards and fetches herself a cup. A silent ‘o’ is on his lips– how embarrassing.

He lifts the pan off the floor and sighs because as much as he wants to drag her back to bed, he kind of needs her help. He never knew it’d be so drawing to do something as simple as getting a person a glass of water, he thinks to himself as he returns the skillet to where it belonged.

He shakes his head and gives her a short laugh, walking up beside her and getting himself a glass. “A glass of water sounds good right now, actually.” He says, sheepishly. “Sorry, wasn’t expecting it to be that troublesome to get you a glass of water.”

He hands her his glass and beams, his failure not deterring his drive to help her get better. “How about you clench our thirst and I’ll warm up your soup? I didn’t make it that long ago so it won’t take long.” He prompts, moving towards his paper bag of stuff and picking up his thermos. “Get settled at your dining table and I’ll bring it to you, alright?”

Lily fills up both glasses of water in the sink and hands one back to him, hoping tap water would be okay. She could never keep up with buying bottled water; it ran out far too quickly and sapped too much of her savings. Taking a long sip from her own glass, she sighed in relief as her dry throat welcomed the liquid.

“Are you sure you wouldn’t like any help?” she asked, before remembering her specific request had been for someone to assist her with making food. Even now, her head was starting to spin from standing up for too long. But she hadn’t expected it to be so difficult to accept help off another person... She’d always been fairly independent, since before she even realised what being independent was, so the feeling of dependency was unfamiliar to her. Still, it was surprisingly refreshing to have somebody taking care of her.

“The microwave is just there, and the hob is here -- however you prefer to do it.” She smiled at Mark before obediently exiting the kitchen and sitting at the dining table.

Dia didn’t really have much to get done before the visit to the apartment, just idling her time by packing her clothes back into the suitcases she brought them in. It would take something remarkably horrifying to drive her away anyway. 

She double checked the address to make sure it was the right place and she knocked on the door right at the moment it struck 3. She always was weirdly on time like that. Dia heard the door unlock and swing open and she saw a rather beautiful woman and suddenly Dia’s palms got a little sweaty. Pretty people made her nervous.

“Ah- yes I am. You must be Lily.” Dia smiled at her, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, may I come in?”

“Of course you may!” Lily stepped back and allowed the other woman to enter, smiling at her as she did so. “This is my apartment. It’s not the most luxurious, but I try my best to keep it clean and presentable.”

She gestured to the room they were currently in. “This serves as a combined entrance hall, dining room and lounge area. It’s the biggest room in the apartment, so I found it was easiest to arrange it this way. Would you like a tour?”

There wasn’t much else to see in the flat -- just the kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen was by far Lily’s favourite after her previous roommate had bought a big kitchen for the two of them to share before her unexpected departure. The spare room had been cleaned by the ravenette earlier but was uninteresting and basic, with only the essential furniture inside.
