Mr. Crimm has requested to follow the club this year. He wants to write a book about us. We all love the idea, but obviously as manager, we thought you should have the final decision.
Okay, so here is the thing that came out of my brain after finding out that Trent Crimm was back. Most of it was written before I saw the episode and made some minor changes after I watched it.
That day it was his turn to pick up Sophie at school. Trent Crimm of The Independent was walking down the street, listening to his daughter talking about her day, and was making sure he was not going too fast and she could keep up with him. Still, at one point, she suddenly stopped.
“What is it, Sophie?” Trent asked.
The little girl raised her hand and pointed at a moustached man on the other side of the street.
“Ted,” she said.
Trent opened his mouth to say she must have mistaken him with somebody else, just like he had done it many times recently. Ever since he heard that Ted Lasso had been back in Richmond, he began to see him everywhere. Every single person with a moustache looked like him, and only after Trent took a step closer, he realised that it was always someone else.
But not this time. Sophie was right: the man on the other side was indeed Ted Lasso: in his blue and red trainers, his beige trousers, blue shirt and grey Richmond sweater, with the moustache under his nose that became wider as he smiled, noticing them.
“Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Trent Crimm of The Independent!” Ted exclaimed as he crossed the street to greet them.
Seeing the other man walking towards him, Trent froze. Too many things were on his mind at the same time, causing such a traffic jam in his head that all he could do was to stand there on the pavement, still holding his daughter’s hand. He was happy to see Ted again, but with that came a wave of guilt for drifting apart in the past few years. It didn’t happen from one day to another; it was a slow process as they had less and less topics to discuss, until their once beloved chats were nothing more than a couple of Happy birthdays and Thank yous. Not that he didn’t think about Ted – he did. In fact, there were quite a lot of things he wanted to tell him or share with him from funny cat videos to the start of his own podcast, but after a while, as they were not talking anymore, it made him feel awkward wanting to send those messages. And the awkwardness brought along doubt and shame as well. Then he felt so bad for hesitating over a message that he ended up not sending it. As time went by, he could have filled the entire Victoria and Albert Museum with the things he had not sent to Ted. Would have been quite an exhibition.
Only when the American pulled him into a tight hug, his brain began to function again. He finally let go of Sophie’s hand and absent-mindedly hugged Ted back.
“So good to see you again, buddy,” the coach said.
“I’m so sorry for not reaching out...” Trent began once they came out of the hug, but the other man did not let him finish.
“No, I’m sorry for not reaching out,” he said. “It takes two to tango.”
Ted’s attention shifted to Sophie then, crouching down to greet her and ask her how she was.
“Hey, why don’t we grab a few drinks tomorrow?” he suggested as he turned back to the reporter a few minutes later. “Or show up in the pub at the same time pretending it’s a coincidence?” he suggested.
A smile touched the reporter’s lips.
“Sounds good to me,” he said.
Later that evening, when he saw a funny cat video, for the first time in years, Trent Crimm could hit the share button without any second thoughts.
also my stupid baka ass is so tedependent brained i am imagining ted as a guest on trent's podcast simply bc the pov outsider potential is insane. in the press room generally the cameras were probably not also recording trent (?) and their interactions were mostly brief. a PODCAST tho??? with a nice little set so probably the kind you can also watch on youtube???? and with the context of trent's book?? the internet might just clock his ass. or at least niche corners of it. not to mention his producers (???) on the other side of the window who he's clearly friendly with. like. sees their boss actually interact with ted lasso. ohhhhh
also something something trent's coat being blue and yellow. the little recording studio being lit with yellow warm lighting and the booth being blue. i'm normal. i'm normal
having this mental image of post s3/s4 trent being like
trent, living his best life, thriving, a podcaster now i guess, etc: im over ted, and that's okay. good, even. i've healed i've moved on i'm doing great. all that crushing heartbreak is behind me now :)
trent now that ted's moved back: ok! that's great! i've still moved on, but it'll be nice to see him again :) but i no longer have feelings for him ofc. i'm happy and healed and doing great
trent the second he sees ted in person and actually interacts with him: oh no
