Shoes of a Minimalist Girl
So how many shoes does a minimalist girl like me own? 10.
How many shoes does the average American woman own? 19. (source)
Could I reduce the number of shoes even further? Probably yes, but I live in a city with four seasons, dress up for work, work out, work in the medical field, and attend fancy events/parties. So for me, these 10 shoes are all I need.
Whenever possible, and if within your budget limits, invest in quality shoes. I prefer having a pair of shoes that will last me a long time, that I can have repaired when needed rather than buying many cheaply made shoes that must be replaced constantly. For instance, my tall black boots are being repaired now since it’s off season, and I’ve had them for 6 years!
Also, most of my shoes are black, making them easy to match with almost everything I wear. My only shoes that aren’t black are my dressy sandals, sneakers, and casual flats.
The shoes pictured here are not my own shoes (google images), but I think the general categories are what can be in a minimalist shoe wardrobe.
Casual Flip-Flops: for the beach/pool, around the house, or general summer activities
Dressy Sandals: for those summer parties and weddings
Casual Ballet Flats: just for everyday wear in the summer and spring, can be used for work
Dressy flats: used for when I’m in clinic, or have to dress more professionally
Slip-on/Walking shoes: for casual days, more supportive than flats so better for days with more walking, and for cooler weather
Sneakers: for working out
Dressy heels: again for professional events, interviews, parties when I want to wear heels
Dansko clogs/Work shoes: if you know what these are, you’re probably in the medical field or at a job that requires 10+ hours on your feet.
Tall black boots: great for autumn, can use with dresses or skinny jeans
Snow boots: Since I live in a city where it snows 6+ months out of the year, these are a must have.
