What made you decide to be a meteorologist?

“Oh, the weather thing?” She blinks. People don’t usually ask about that. “Mainly, it’s a job, and it gets the bills paid. Plus, the schedule at the station is flexible enough that I can travel a bit if I feel like it. I don’t really like being in front of the camera, but studying the weather can actually be pretty interesting…”

Tell us a little bit about your parents

“My parents...?”

Her mind flashes to the letter sitting in an old cardboard box somewhere, written by her father. Settle down and get a job or come home. Ironically, the message had come just as she’d found a home, but the ties she had to Forget-Me-Not weren’t a good enough justification for staying. Not to him, at least.

Her mother, on the other hand, always cares too little. It isn’t personal; her mother cares too little about nearly everything. Her parents aren’t awful, they’re just... Distant.

She gives a non-committal shrug. “They’re okay, I guess.”

He already finds amusement in seeing her eyes light up with pure wonder– the wind obviously doing its job well. He didn’t miss her growing suspicion of the odd happening, so he threads carefully, planning his words ahead before letting them slip.

Selphia is a pretty strange place, and even back home, she’s heard stories about Harvest Sprites. Still, something’s off.

Twirl three times and praise the wind spirit?

Well, Nami may not be sure what she believes about spirits, but she’s pretty solid in her belief that the way this man’s looking her over is very familiar. It’s the same look store vendors get when they realize she’s a tourist and that they might be able to get away with charging her twice the usual amount for a cup of tea. And the way his ears are perked towards her in interest makes her very dubious about the credibility of his story.

“Wind spirits, huh?” She shrugs and folds her arms. “...Well, I don’t mind the breeze that much, and as long as I don’t provoke any of them, it shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

Idle | Leon & Nami

What a boring way to end a perfectly good trip. Today was his supposed return to Selphia, his travels to distant lands have been exciting and new, but all he’d want now was to rest in his little home-slash-room back at Bell Hotel. He could see the entire town from where he stood, the airship he was on wasn’t moving for heaven know’s why. If he had the powers to fall from the sky without receiving any form of injury, he’d do so right now, boredom already getting the best of him. There was whispering among his fellow passengers, most likely concerning the reason why they were stuck in the sky, but he chose not to pry, his mood already sour.

For now, he’ll wait.

He turns and leans away from the scenic view of Selphia, not a fan of wasting his time wishing he could be down there when he obviously can’t. Instead, he takes this chance to observe the people on board– a quick scan to check if he could bother someone. He passes by a few people he deemed uninteresting until his eyes fall on a particular red head. The indifference in her face landed him with two conclusions: either she was going to be an interesting company for the time being, or she was going to completely ignore her. Either way, he atleast found a target. Walking over to the red head, he uses very weak wind magic to get a force of wind to swirl around her until it got her attention.

It’s not Nami’s first time on an airship, so she’s pretty certain that it isn’t supposed to be stopped midair like this. They’ve been floating in the same spot for at least thirty minutes, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be moving any time soon. She rests her elbows on the side of the ship and sighs.

On the plus side, at least it’s a decent view.

She leans over and surveys the land below. No matter how often she visits Selphia, she’s still not over how different it is, even from the places she’s traveled to before. Every time she comes here, it feels like being dropped into a fantasy novel or something. In a good way, of course. Usually.

A breeze kicks up, tousling her hair, and she tries to turn her head into the wind before realizing that it doesn’t seem to be coming from any particular direction. Glancing upwards, there doesn’t seem to be any wind affecting the flags, either. It’s her own little isolated whirlwind.

As a meteorologist, this strikes her as weird.

The word impossible also comes to mind, but since it’s actually happening, she can’t really say that with any great certainty.

She glances around, trying to determine the source of the mysterious breeze, and finds nothing. Nothing, and a very tall, very shirtless man (with what she’s pretty sure are fox ears poking out of his turban) who seems to be watching her intently. She adjusts her rucksack and nods to him.

“Uh... Hey.”

Nami sighs as she leaves the TV station, glancing down at her watch. It’s about five in the afternoon, and she has a solid hour and a half or so to kill before catching the bus back towards Forget-Me-Not.

Well, she is kind of hungry...

Five minutes and a short walk later, she finds herself stepping through the doorway of the local cafe.

“Hello?”

(( Whoops! I’ve spent the last day or so doing a lot of moving and stuff. I’ll get to replies tomorrow night- as far as I know, the only thing I’ve got lined up is a starter for Katie. Drop me an ask if you want to thread or plot~! ))

[ A cool spring breeze blows across the docks of Castanet, tousling Nami’s hair. The air smells like the ocean, and Nami breathes it in with an almost-smile. It’s been a while since she traveled. She’s missed the feeling of new ground under her feet. ]

[ But where to go first? As she looks over the densely-packed houses and winding streets of Harmonica Town, she realizes that it might actually be useful to have a map. She doesn’t really like having to rely on town-given maps, since it makes her feel more like a tourist than a traveler. (She likes to think that there’s a difference.) But, from her experience, it’s better to feel ridiculous than completely lost. ]

[ With a sigh, she searches the signs outside the shops for a Town Hall, and, finding it, enters. ]

Nami/Dolce

Nami peered over the edge of the airship, surveying the approaching town. It was always strange to come back to a place that she'd already visited, although the sprawling fantasy-like landscape was still vaguely unfamiliar. Maybe it was something about the architecture... Or the fact that they had a castle that housed a princess.

Still, that unfamiliar atmosphere was the whole reason she traveled, and she disembarked feeling something very near contentment.

She stepped off and rummaged through her rucksack for the map.

Things that she found included a leather-bound journal, a few pens, her wallet, and an extra sweater.

Things that were, apparently, not in her bag included... The map.

"Seriously?"

Nami ran a hand through her hair and bit her lip. As far as she remembered, the general store was somewhere towards the other end of town, but she couldn't remember if it was down the path on the left or... She wavered slightly, then set off towards the right, hoisting her rucksack over her shoulder.

Well, time for an adventure, I guess.

Finding an appropriate box, Mistel wrapped the watch carefully in the layer of velvet that had previously served as a display - padding it with this and a bit of extra foam to keep everything in place. He sealed it with a (perhaps excessive) layer of packing tape, a (found) spool of packaging paper, and a (decidedly Halloween-esque orange) ribbon. By the time he was finished, Mistel had produced a fairly nondescript, unimaginative looking present. He blinked at it slightly.

"I probably ought to invest in some more colorful gift wrap, especially with the holidays fast approaching." He chuckled at himself before setting the box down on the counter for her - picking up the money in exchange.

"No problem at all. Thank you for your business, really," he replied, slotting the money into his cash register with a friendly smile. "I trust it’ll go to a good home - that’s all I can hope for." He shut the cash register tray before turning back to her. "Is there anything else I can help you with today?"

"It will," Nami assured him with a small smile, retrieving the package and placing it carefully in the main compartment of her rucksack. She frowned, considering, and then moved it to a safer, smaller inner pocket. The wrapping looked durable enough, but it was probably better to avoid any unnecessary jostling.

She returned the rucksack to its former position on her back before addressing his last question.

"No, thanks."

Her stomach growled. On second thought...

"Um. Actually, could you tell me where the cafe is?"

He hadn’t known what to expect at naming his price, had spent the moment of silence looking between the watch and the items still on display - taking a second to adjust something, despite the fact that it hadn’t exactly been out of place. Just something to direct his attention to while he awaited a response, really—

But he was all smiles again at the customer’s confirmation, looking up to her with relieved surprise. “Absolutely,” he agreed, taking it back with careful hands - taking also the bit of velvet it had been sitting on while on display. As he shut the display case door (leaving it unlocked - he’d tend to that later), he nodded at her request.

"No problem at all, I’d be very happy to. I don’t have gift wrapping paper, unfortunately - but I’ve got plain brown package paper and a bit of decorative ribbon, if that works?" He beckoned for her to follow him to the front counter he’d been sitting at earlier, wracking his memory for where he’d last stowed both items - first turning his attention to finding a box the appropriate size for the pendant.

"That's fine," she replied, following him towards the register.

Nami positioned herself in front of the counter and waited patiently. As the shopkeeper was searching behind the counter, she glanced around the store again, tapping the toe of her shoe absentmindedly against the wood flooring. It really was a nice shop. Definitely worth another visit, if she found herself in Oak Tree Town again. Although hopefully, the next trip would be a bit less unexpectedly expensive...

Speaking of which- The money! A quick rummage through her rucksack produced a worn leather wallet, out of which she pulled the required 10,000G. Nami set it on the counter and returned the wallet to her bag.

"Thanks for the extra trouble."

Mistel smiled as she took the watch, satisfied with the level of care she was taking in holding it. He was fairly used to customers having something of a heavy hand with his things, and while he was always careful to be as polite as possible, he very much preferred when someone took the care to be gentle with a piece of history. He smiled wider yet at her praise - shrugging humbly and diverting his gaze to the watch. 

"I’m very fond of them. Each piece in this shop is something I’ve collected personally— I find it to be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about things that fascinate me."

And ah, the topic of price - so often the bane of his selling experience. It took him only a second or two to recall the price the watch was listed at, but he paused just the same - this being one of the more expensive of the pieces in his shop, excluding the very large pieces of furniture and the ancient grandfather clocks.

"Its selling price is at 10,000G," he said slowly, careful to avoid looking at her face - instead looking at the watch.

10,000G! The shopkeeper was avoiding eye contact, which thankfully gave her a moment or so to recover. Nami bit her lip and exhaled through her nose, frowning thoughtfully. So expensive! Honestly, though, she'd kind of been expecting it. The price wasn't unreasonable for something this nice, and it definitely wasn't as bad as it could be. If anything, he'd probably reduced it.

And Su could really use the pick-me-up. She really deserves a nice graduation present, after all...

A few moments of painful deliberation later, Nami decided. The happiness on her sister's face would be worth it, and if the extra expense meant a few less weekend trips next month, so be it.

"I'll take it," she said with a sigh, handing it back to him. She paused a moment, considering. "Also. Sorry to be a bother, but do you think you could wrap it for me? It's for my sister."

Kevin thought it would be a good investment to visit the farms in Forget Me Not Valley. He had heard great things about the crops but what he was not prepared for was a vast expanse that any not-so-savvy with directions farmer would get lost in. He sighed, approaching the next person he saw and tentatively spoke up. "Excuse me, ma'am. Could you direct me to the- er- what was it... the Inca Inn?"

Nami had seen the man coming a long way off. She could tell that he was traveling, and she’d have liked to say that it was because of her own travels, that she could tell by the way he was moving: timidly, going one way and then backtracking, glancing hopefully around for signs or directions or anything that could help him navigate…

Really, though, if she was being realistic, it was because Forget-Me-Not had a population of about thirty on a good day, and any outsiders stuck out like sore thumbs.

It wasn’t a terrible surprise, then, when he stopped to ask her for help.

"Inner Inn," the woman said, pointing. "It’s down that way, first building left from the bridge."

She paused for a moment, considering. The guy looked really lost, and having been in the same situation before, there was no way she’d be able to just leave him and still feel okay about herself, was there? She sighed.

"Look, I’m headed there anyways." It wasn’t really a lie, because she was headed there now, wasn’t she? “I can take you there, if you want.”
