The inspirational Olympian Darren Campbell MBE
Hard weeks make you stronger?
So this last week or so has been really poor from me food wise. Poor planning resulting in having to make last minute meals and not taking the time to plan and weigh out portions. And once you fall off it can be really hard to get back on the wagon. So I am writing this with the promise that this coming week I will do better! I will be food shopping tomorrow night and will start making multiple portions of my meals so I can freeze them and use them at short notice to make it easier. This week has been really busy as well with friends BBQ, going to see a puppy only 5 weeks old (yes we bought him, he was so cute!) and then at work doing a mornings photography with Olympian Darren Campbell! It was a very exciting morning but being on your feet all day is tiring so rather than work out I tidied the garden, moved pots around and have been getting it ready for our little addition in a few weeks time. Sure that burnt some calories! Tomorrow it is back to training as only 52 days to go till my first Tri and I am not feeling anywhere close to ready! On a plus, a new wetsuit has been ordered so that will hopefully help the motivation 😊🏊🚴🏃
Easter and woodlands
Easter Temptation
So it's Easter weekend and as well as planning an Easter egg hunt for my husband it is also my Mother-in-laws birthday today. So first on the agenda was a run, trying to get back to where I was before my injury so 4.2k morning run in the bag. Then it was off out for lunch as a family and luckily where we went made it easy to choose healthy options. Salmon and prawns to start leaving the chunky buttered bread to the side uneaten. Followed by roast lamb with plenty of veggies and 1 Yorkshire pudding- yum! No desert for me watching my nephew way a piece of creme egg cheesecake and then it was off home to go for a bike ride around the woods. It was so nice to get fresh air and make the most of the nice weather. And having mini versions of eggs for hubbies hunt means I can have a little treat without having to worry about guilt. HAPPY EASTER ALL!
Liverpool and a run around Burghley Park!
Liverpool and wine
So this weekend we visited Liverpool to watch the All Star match for Stevie G's farewell. I think it is fair to say that my focus has not been fully there this week on food and knowing I was away I had some wine and treats. When I say wine I mean two medium glasses and I was tipsy and decided I needed to sober up! I weighed in this morning and expectedly had put on a pound. Which I can vouch for exactly where that has come from so don't mind that at all and can now get back on it nutritionally and fitness wise and get rid of that pound this week. That started with a run around Bughley House this afternoon in the wind and am now off for a swim. I will be skinnier and healthier
Another week, another pound!
So one more week of my FitNaturally plan is done and another pound has come off and I even treated myself to a packet of crisps this week. So now when I look at the scales I see a 11 rather than a 12 which is amazing. Now all I need to do is sort out my exercising and then I will be back on top of both! Does anyone else have that? You focus on one side and the other suffers? Nightmare but hopefully in this coming week my alarm clock will be set for 5.30am rather than 6.40 and I will start squeezing in a couple of workouts in a day! Running or pilates I think am then in the pool or bike pm. The countdown is not stopping till the Tri season starts so neither can I!
Meeting Olympians Becky Adlington and Mark Foster
Tri Expo day trip
So another week done and another ha pound lost. Pleased with that as I knew it would settle down but my biggest achievement this week has to be my first 5k run since my knee injury. Not only was it my first since my knee problem, it was hilly around Stamford and I was over the moon with the speed especially considering being out for over a month! Then today we woke up early and started on the 2hr 15min drive to Event City, Manchester to visit the Tri Expo with tickets won and given by SportSticks! After a good wander round checking out the new kit on sale and meeting the UKRunChat guys it was off to eat, drink and get anything I wanted before Becky Adlington did her talk at 1.30. Whilst cooing over Boardman bikes, I look up and standing there is no other than cycling legend Chris Boardman himself! Was tempted to ask him if he could buy me one of his bikes - they are so pretty - but resisted!! So after some Purple Harry bike cleaning bits bought and some overshoes from the weirdest stand ever it was off to grab some good seats before Beck arrived. With Mark Foster interviewing the time passed so quickly hearing about Beck's life and training and of course her two Olympics. Afterwards there was time to grab a picture with both and to get some swim tips to take me forward: swim more often and up your cadence! So now the pool hard work starts too! 🏊
Vote for me to win this amazing prize please everyone! I have raised money for cancer over the last few years and this would be amazing!!
First run in weeks done and felt good!
More weight lost!
So finally I felt better and weighed in on Wednesday and lost another 1.5lbs! Which makes just over 3 in a week and a half. I am finally starting to feel better for eating clean and although it takes organisation I am fitting it in with my life and have got back to exercising with my first run in weeks last night after my knee injury. I am feeling fit and healthy and looking forward to doing more running and much more cycling so I can start my Tri season strong! Onwards and upwards from here for me and hopefully downwards for my weight! 😊🏊🚴🏃
Detox?
Well this week has been interesting, after a good weight loss on Wednesday I have stuck to the FitNaturally plan religiously and have enjoyed some amazing recipes including chicken stuffed with herby mascarpone. However, throughout this week I have on and off had a temperature and felt sick. Have put this down to I work in a school I am probably coming down with something, until a friend said something different. She queried if it could be with me suddenly being so good with my food that my body is going through a sugar detox. With no processed food entering my body (including my previous guilty pleasure sweets - pinballs) I am hoping that after a few more days the sickness and temperature will sort itself out and I can get back to working out and enjoying this new lifestyle. This is not a diet, this is a lifestyle change that I can hopefully keep up for life!
FitNaturally week 1
Wednesday is always weigh in day on FitNaturally plans and even though I had only had 2 days on the plan I weighed in and lost almost 2lbs!! Result! On Tuesday we sadly had a funeral in Luton which meant travel and also a wake full of generally unhealthy or in-gluten free food! So breakfast done and then at the wake 5 small cocktail sausages later I was hungry but was not giving into temptation! On the journey home I was starving and as soon as I got in had an apple and nuts to keep to the plan and then had quinoa for dinner with roasted veg about an hour later. I have now signed up for FitNaturally and am looking forward to more yummy recipes as this weeks have been great! I would definitely recommend their plans
FitNaturally day 1!
So today I started on my FitNaturally free trial (www.fitnaturally.co.uk) and there was no need to worry about not having enough to eat as there was plenty and some lovely recipes. With toast and peanut butter (well gluten free), coronation chicken salad for lunch and then quinoa and Harissa spiced roasted vegetable dish for dinner. Yum! And for once I actually drank enough water. Looking forward to having the other half of the couscous tomorrow for lunch and trying a couple more new recipes! Weigh in say on Wednesday so I am hoping that it will be good news
First run in Feb
Well it is almost the end of Feb and after being injured with knee problems all month I finally managed to go for a short run. Focusing on upping my cadence to take the pressure off my knees meant my breathing was really struggling more than normal but this new technique needs to be learnt and I am sure it will get easier and I should get faster! Onwards!
