Hospital Bed
Dawn waited, hoping that Tara was right and that her father was coming in soon. She heard the door open and then his voice and that already put her at some ease. Her voice cracked as she asked, “Daddy?” It hurt, but she wanted to speak with him. She was confused, scared.
She tried to nod at the ice chips, not knowing if the movement was able to be seen. She tried again, hoping this time it worked. She asked him, her voice still hoarse, “Jonah?” She winced slightly, “where is….Jonah?” Why did everything hurt. She could barely move.
“Wh-” Oh. Fucking Jonah. He’d honestly barely given the guy a second thought after he saw him taken away in the hospital. He knew Dawn would care but it was hard to care about her caring when he hadn’t known if she was gonna live. “He’s around here somewhere.” That was about all he knew. He figured the hospital would have mentioned if he died. “I’ll figure out his status.” He promised. “Let me get you some of those ice chips first.”
He’d been sent in with a little cup of them and he knew the drill enough from his own stints in the hospital to fish one out and hold it carefully to her mouth.
Jonah was in here too somewhere? She made a restless noise before trying to calm down. He would be fine, probably wondering where she was. She could tell in her father’s tone he wasn’t happy and didn’t want to discuss it, but she worried. When he mentioned ice chips however, she made a small nodding motion, wishing that she could at least see her father. Just seeing him would help calm her.
She tried to get comfortable, but everything hurt. She took the chip and it was cold on her tongue, but it felt nice. She hadn’t realized how dry her tongue was. She let out a breath and moaned. She couldn’t move, couldn’t open her eyes, and was uncomfortable and cold and hot at the same time. She wanted sleep but she wasn’t tired. She asked him,her voice rough, “what’s going on? Where’s Fawn? Where’s Mom? Are they okay?”
