#DUDE LOOK AT HER FUCKING ADVANCE ON HIM#FUCKING PREDATOR!REY IS MY FAVE#FOREVER#and in this moment he’s like FUCK FUCK FUCK ABORT#I HAVE MADE A MISTAKE (via @futurerustfuture-dust)
you know what doesn’t get talked about enough regarding severus snape? he was the best spy who ever lived.
he worked closely under voldemort, a master legilimens, for years during the war and voldemort still gave him vital information and never actually thought he was a spy for dumbledore. he was pardoned by dumbledore for his crimes and voldemort! still! thought snape! was loyal to him!
voldemort didn’t kill snape because he was a spy, he killed snape for the elder wand. harry j potter had to point-blank tell voldemort that snape wasn’t loyal to him and voldemort still didn’t believe it right away! that’s how fucking good severus snape was! that’s how clever and duplicitous and cunning! he fooled and outwittted one of the most powerful and dangerous wizards alive and the wizard himself didn’t even figure it out!
Honestly one of the things about that aspect of him is that he fools the reader too. Up until Harry knows the truth (whatever your opinion on Snape’s motives may be), the reader never knows for sure if he’s good or bad. We think he’s bad in the first book, though it’s a bit transparent that something more might be afoot, and then he’s gotta good, right? Joins the order, works for Dumbledore, is an ass but not the villain, right?
But then there are Unbreakable Vows and murder and you think you’ve been lied to for the past five books and wow, you can’t believe he’s good. He duels McGonagall!!
We never feel confident in our assessment of his loyalties until we see that loyalty through his own eyes, his own memories, and however much you like or dislike his character, that was a fascinating writing decision.
I actually think that was one of the best things JKR did in the whole series.

He got armor on
my boyfriend talks in his sleep and I wish it was just cute gibberish but instead it’s TERRIFYING. so far, he has:
- grabbed me by the shoulder and put his hand over my mouth at 3am and pointed to the wall, whispering “do you see it? the barbed wire.” - woken me up and muttered “he’s here” while staring at my bedroom door - rolled over last night and said “you don’t know what’s out there. You don’t know what’s in the swamp.”
he’s taken like 20 years off my life.
