[://A STORY OF OPPORTUNITIES WE NEVER HAD]:
She doesn’t inquire any further, and for that he’s thankful. No doubt she’d handle the information on Singularities well enough – she seems the sort, he’s sure – but for now, it’s best not to speak of such things. Later, if they become acquaintances – friends even – he’d be willing to speak of it. But for now, no.
Instead Roman does the polite thing, and listens. Ah, homunculi. He wondered why she seemed so familiar – though perhaps the word was stretching it a bit. But a homunculi built for infiltrating, that was certainly a surprise. No doubt, they both had stories – equally complicated and long winded – best left for another, more comfortable conversation. Still, he follows as best he can; meeting her gaze with equal curiosity and interesting.
“WAH! Wait, wait! Did I hear you right? The moon?! Seriously!?” Here he thought five Wars in Fuyuki was an accomplishment. But a computer – correction, quantum computer – on the moon, observing humanity, and staging a Grail War. Compared to that, everything seemed so small. “But to think spiritron particles could be used in such a manner…”
Quickly, Roman follows his mutterings with a wave of his hand. “Honestly though Rani, that’s amazing! I’ll be sure to ask you more at a later time. But, ah, you do pose a good point regarding this place.” Given her experience, it would be unwise to ignore her words.
“However, I’m under the impression the Servants here are the same as us: powerless, and taken for another purpose. Conflict may arise in the future, though. It always does. So, as much as I dislike the idea, a War is always a possibility. It all depends on situation, and what our captors choose..”
Like that, Roman’s tone turns from jovial to serious, then straight back again. “Buuuut that line of thought will get us nowhere! Worrying will only get us so far, after all. Besides, this city is filled with opportunities!” Shyly, he rubs a hand against his neck. “That’s what I’ve found, anyway.”
Did humans not venture out to the moon? Was the moon cell never discovered in the parallel world Mr. Roman spoke of? In what context could spiritrons and pseudospiritrons exist then? He was so fascinated that it fascinated her in return how fascinated he was.
The matter of war passed her like a freezing wind she had summoned herself only to twist back into a stream of warmth again.
She had a hard time keeping up with how he swung back and forth between these moods like he was a child sitting in a swing. While he shifted through these colors of emotions as if it were a rainbow, the homunculus found herself stuck to gray, only dragging herself slowly back into warmer tones.
---“Opportunities? ...what opportunities have you found here?”
A blank file. Living. Ah, of course. These were things she’d never even considered before. Enjoying yourself, having a hobby. Things that wouldn’t be possible otherwise... if one treated this city like the moon cell in a passive state it would be that. She blinked at him as if he had brought up something that would take her days to consider. Opportunity- somehow the word fit this man.
