Warrior Cats Prefixes - B - Part 1 [Badger - Bat]
the names listed here are my own personal headcanon names that I use when in reference to the canon Clans. Others are free to use them and you're free to disagree with the ones I use, but in the end they're the ones I personally like to use.
this list is liable to change as time goes on and my ideas change.
there will be around 5-8 prefixes per list. Some may have more, some may have less, but the general range is about 5-8.

Badger
Badger- as a name is a reference to the Meles meles, aka the European badger. Badgers are one of the more common Clan threats. Because of their status, badgers are known in all five Clans. It is common in most Clans but has slight favor in ShadowClan. Coincidentally, it is considered more uncommon in ThunderClan.
Type: mammal [this name denotes a type of mammal or something associated with specific mammals]
Requirements*: Badger- cats are black and white. The badger-like markings are not strict thing. A good portion of Badger- cats are large.

Bane
Bane- as a name is a reference to the wolfsbane flower. Granted this is not a known fact to cats outside the Clan, which can make a cat with the prefix Bane- a bit unnerving upon first meeting them. Bane- is a very rare name to see around the Clans, due to its status of confusing cats about the origin of the name. It is boosted to only a rare status in WindClan and ThunderClan, who are surprisingly more likely to use the prefix. ShadowClan is the third most likely, though they're still under the very rare ranking of the name.
Type: nature // subclass: flower [this name denotes a type of flower or things associated with flowers]
Requirements*: Bane- cats are gray in color, often leaning towards mid to light gray - sometimes even silver.

Bark
Bark- as a name comes from the outermost, protective layer around trees, much like skin. Bark is so common that it's known in all five Clans. It is a common name with no Clan having a preference in using it.
Type: nature // subclass: tree [this name denotes a type of tree or a part of a tree]
Requirements*: Bark- cats come in all shapes and sizes and colors, though the most common color is brown, gray, or white. However, with there being so many different trees with many different types of bark, none would question a dark ginger Bark- cat or even a tortoiseshell.

Barley
Barley- as a name comes from the barley plant, which can be more commonly found on farms than in the wild, though wild barley is not unheard of. Most Clans are vaguely familiar with what barley is, even if they don't use it, though WindClan is the most familiar. It is an uncommon name in four of the five Clans, it being considered almost common in WindClan.
Type: nature // subclass: plant [this name denotes a type of plant that doesn't entirely fit under other categories]
Requirements*: Barley- cats are commonly gray or brown, to match with the head of the barley plant - with gray being a replacement for green. However, sometimes Barley- cats are cream/gold to match with the golden look it has when it's ready for harvest.

Basil
Basil- as a name comes from the basil plant, which likes to grow in dry grassland. All the Clans are aware of what basil is, even though it mostly grows in WindClan territory. It's an uncommon name in four of the Clans, but a fairly common name in WindClan, who uses herb names often.
Type: nature // subclass: plant [this name denotes a type of plant that doesn't entirely fit under other categories]
Requirements*: Basil- cats are mostly gray- as gray- is often used by cats, as cats can't really be green, like basil leaves.

Bass
Bass- as a name refers to the seabass, which is a fish only spoken about in whispers among the Clans. While the Clans do know that the bass is a real fish, namely thanks to RiverClan, none have ever really hunted any - not even in the water-based Clan. The name came to be known thanks to RiverClan learning of different types of fish - both from their own hunting and learning from outsiders. While fish prefixes aren't exclusive to RiverClan, RiverClan is the most likely to use this name. However, even among this Clan, it is a very rare prefix.

Bat
Bat- as a name comes from the mammals in the Chiroptera family, specifically referring to certain bats - the common pipistrelle, Daubenton's bat, the greater horseshoe bat, the gray long-eared bat, Leiler's bat, the lesser horseshoe bat, the whiskered bat, and so on. All five Clans know of bats and it is a common prefix in all five Clans. No Clan has a strong preference, though it is joked that some consider it a ShadowClan name [this is untrue]
Type: mammal [this name denotes a type of mammal or something associated with specific mammals]
Requirements*: black, brown, and gray are the most common colors for those with the Bat- prefix. However, sometimes white and cream cats have had the name.

Random Examples [non canon]: Batbelly // Batcrawl // Batsnarl // Batthroat
*requirements are not actually required, but simply the most common attributes associated with the name. Often honor naming ignores these requirements, but these are still more like loose suggestions than any hard-set rules
I absolutely headcannon Windclan hates the clan curse words, like fox-heart or mouse-brained, but will use the long winded “curse” phrases in their place. So, you just hear a Windclan cat going on at a gathering and just saying, “Oh, by the graces of Starclan, Windstar, Riverstar, Thunderstar, Skyster, and Shadowstar, it was dumber then the forces of the Dark Forest” or something like that. Then, you just got a Shadowclan cat being done and saying, “PLEASE JUST SAY MOUSE-BRAINED.”
Listen, I just think it'd be really funny if in warrior cats, there's like, a broken down animal transport or something and the clans encounter a baby serval or caracal or lynx. Like, if it's really young the kitten will be big but not That Big. So obviously they have to take it in.
Only then the Baby Grows. Now you've got this baby whose outgrowing literally everyone else, and nobody knows what the fuck is going on. Within warrior's canon, it would be totally reasonable for the baby to learn their language. So it's mostly normal but also Really Large.
I just think it'd be really funny to have a giant baby wandering around.
headcanon that dark forest cats appear as when they were the most miserable in their lives…contrast to starclan cats appearing as their happiest selves. most often df cats appear as the moment of their death, with their killing wounds still visible, but mapleshade is forever stuck soaked to the bone stricken with the horror of her dead children.
Warrior cat au where throughout the arcs the clans become slightly more technologically advanced.
Not enough to change drastically but more tiny things like… in arc 2 they learn about weaponry from scourge’s dog claw idea and end up learning how to use Fox teeth or badger claws to reinforce the camp walls
Or in arc 3 they may learn how to ferment berries and end up inventing alcohol (listen these cats use poppyseeds as pain killers I think there allowed to drink wine)
Maybe in arc 4 after the great battle they start setting the clans up to be more organised, they now have set cats to set jobs and find a way to keep it all organised (perhaps the deputy or leader’s apprentices help them keep check on who’s job is it to do what?)
Or hell, when skyclan returns they bring there own traditions such as there unique names and daylight warriors and integrate that into the clans! (I can imagine one of the newer kits in thunderclan being called metalkit, rhinokit or casperkit)
Idk, I just think the clans could have a little more richer history

Sometimes, when it's evening, some cats stare at the stars and start talking/thinking to StarClan. Kinda like StarClan, you wouldn't believe how stupid my day was or StarClan, you should've fought in that battle it was brutal. And sometimes, very rarely, when a cat has lost someone very close to them, the cat they've lost can respond. It'll be kinda like StarClan, I've had a stupid day. Mhm, yeah I know, dear. Being mocked by elders! How bad can it get? Yeah, I saw it, darling.
okay but like.. you know that myth/folklore/belief/ihonestly dont know how to catagorise this.. BUT THE THING WHERE PEOPLE SAY YOUR BIRTHMARKS ARE PLACES YOU DIED FROM? imagine if the clan leaders start to have markings that show their death blows? what if the reason why male torties/calicos exist isnt JUST because they're trans, (not denying this headcannon, just saying maybe this works too) but because EVERY MULTI COLOURED CAT IS A POSSIBLE REINCARNATION WITH THE MARKINGS OF THEIR PAST DEATHS AND GENETICALLY IMPOSSIBLE WHITE SPOTS ON A CALICO IS WHERE THEIR STARFORM DIED THE DILUTED COATS ARE FADED/FORGOTTEN DEATHS
so for example, firestar whould have a marking on his head where scourge smashed it in. in starclan he'd have a new marking around his muzzle to show how he suffocated in the smoke, add extra tabby like markings for his wounds. mapleshade when she died had a dark/or/red marking on her white mane like neck (perhaps a warning from starclan about her fate?)
MAYBE in clan cat theology theres a myth that a tiger got his stripes from great battles in the shadows from when they where banned to the darkness for a moon and an unwillingness to let the fight go so ealily, killed them one by one, only to be reincatnated/brought back to life by starclan having mercy on them. spots of a leopard where the bruising both internal and externat from their fights, too swift and agile to let claws cut too deeply in them atg the begining, but the internal damage was deadly and impactful all the same. lionclan... i got nothing, lions are boring and overrated anyways FiTe Me =P

I wish there was just one instance of a warrior cat having their baby teeth fall out. Like a passing mention. I like to think they have the cat version of a tooth fairy, like leave your teeth under your nest and you’ll be brought prey or stones or something
What if in the Warrior Cats world they had the concept of soulmates, but instead they call it dovemates because it's soft and tender and peaceful.
i feel like people seem to underestimate how powerful rabbits- especially wild ones- can be in comparison to a cat
that being said, hc that windclan cats often have scars from rabbits who put up a fight while being hunted
I’m gonna infect this blog with a Warrior Cats post just this one time, please don’t kill me thank you.
It doesn’t make sense that the Clans have names like tiger, leopard, and lion. The stories of LionClan, TigerClan, and LeopardClan were obviously just stories (but that’s a rant for another time). These cats would have never seen them in their life.
However, who grew up around humans, and would probably have seen pictures or heard the names, before joining the Clans? Who might have seen them with their own eyes (at a zoo, probably)?
My guess is that kittypets introduced them to the Clans.
Wait what’s a fading kit??
A Fading Kitten is a Clan Culture expansion based off how irl, it's very common for a cat to birth a lot of babies and then a few of them suddenly (for no apparent cause) weaken and die in less than a month.
Parents don't name their litters until their first moon, at the very least, because it's expected that one of the kittens is actually an Angel! They brought the rest of the litter down, and will "fade" back to StarClan where they belong.
It would be rude to name a respected warrior of StarClan. Or, worse, offend a family member by admitting you didn't recognize them. These "Guides" are often thought to be family!
Cinderheart, for example, was a suspected Fading Kitten. I removed the reincarnation plotline; instead, her family is overjoyed thinking that she was a Guide who ended up staying around longer. Cinderheart feels a connection to her aunt Cinderpelt for this reason, no more ghost possession.
A fading kitten IS:
Stillborn for no apparent cause
Dead within their first moon
Suddenly and without warning 'faded' in the span of a few days
Expected, and not mourned unless the parents are in a bad mental state
A fading kitten IS NOT:
A death attributed to a fatal birth defect
A miscarriage
A kitten who dies of illness within their first moon
A kitten who weakens after their first moon
A bad birth from rough pregnancy or stress
So remember; if we were applying this to canon, Juniperkit IS a fading kit. Dandelion was NOT a fading kit (lived too long), Flickerkit was NOT a fading kit (mother was poisoned before his birth), Tallstar’s sister Finchkit IS a fading kit.
Fading Kits are very common in my au.
Thinking about the role system of the clans and how it is cemented in the different dens for each role. This has both positive and negative impact imo.
I love the sleepover or youth hostel vibey potential of the apprentice den. Staying up late to talk, plotting shenanigans, sneaking out, complaining about your annoying siblings snoring, cuddling with your friends after an exhausting day of training.
With the warrior den, i really like what was described in TPB when Fire and Gray were made warriors and (i think) Whitestorm, but definitely a mentorly figure, released them from the silent vigil and showed them free space in the warrior den to get some rest. A really wholesome thing which i think should be a tradition for former mentors to do, because it signifies that even now when the newly named is a Warrior, a part of the main protectors and providers of the Clan, they are themselves cared for and protected by the other warriors.
This first sleep of a warrior should also be jokingly referred to as an important ritual and base for one of these traditional unfunny jokes among the senior warriors. Young warriors are so lazy these days, sleeping till sunhigh.
Also it's so funny to me to think of Tigerclaw and Fireheart as roommates
These dens really signify the connection of a clan. To be one of the warriors isn't just a job, it's what shapes each day and night. They are always around each other, for better or worse. A betrayal hurts so much more when they have slept next to you everyday. A cat that died or left the Clan leaves a hole in the order of things. The remaining ones will feel it in the morning by the lack of warmth on their pelts. But eventually they'll fill the gap as time passes and new warriors join.
I like that the leader and the medicine cat sleep alone. These are important, sacred roles and it is an honour to have their own space, but it can be cold and lonely. They may have power, but they lose this understanding and community that comes with the other dens. It might push them to seek company with each other, or (mostly in case of the Healer) with their counterparts in the other clans.
StarClan is closer to these cats because they sleep alone. Their dreams are easier for StarClan cats to wander in because they aren't huddled together with others, and they sleep deeper because they are undisturbed. This is maybe also why StarClan sometimes seems more distant when they are most needed, because the healers will be busy and sleep less deeply when they have many patients to attend to.
Where the deputy sleeps may signify their role within the clan, which can vary depending on clan traditions and the current leadership's preferences. They could be seen as the first among the warriors, something between their manager and their union represantative, and thus sleep in the warrior den, maybe in an elevated or especially good spot. Or they have an entire den on their own, maybe if they are primarily seen as the heir. Some leaders may choose to share the den with their deputy if they are close and rely on them a lot. This might also happen if the leadership sees themselves as very much above the commoners.
also, here’s the recreational activities i think each clan would have!
shadowclan: it’s common for cats of all ages to play games similar to tag, or to hide and seek. it’s considered a good way to train stealth, and is also just a lot of fun. shadowclan cats, suprisingly to most, also have a rich tradition of poetry (which, in cat language, focuses around descriptors that match or influence the subject in some way, literally or metaphorically)
thunderclan: playfighting remains a common activity here even after kithood- it’s seen as a little immature in the other clans, but here it’s highly respected. thunderclan has a rich history of storytellers, though they’re known to embellish the truth.
riverclan: they swim, obviously! you can catch a lot of riverclan cats just swimming laps in the water. apprentices often dare each other to dive under the water as far as they can, but this dangerous game is heavily discouraged by adults. riverclan is a very aesthetically minded clan, and has many artists- traditionally, weaving things found beautiful into the dens, but a few daring young warriors have started a trend of wearing them in their pelts, something that spread from clan to clan during gatherings.
windclan: windclan cats love more cerebral forms of recreation. riddles are a common hobby among them, often built around describing strange twoleg things (those are always the hardest to guess). this isn’t to say they don’t have physical forms of play- you’ll never find a windclan cat ashamed to have zoomies whenever they feel pent up!
skyclan: skyclan cats love to climb, unsurprisingly, but they’re also a fan of using their claws to carve designs into the ground or stones. they’ve developed a primitive form of writing with this, with unique markings to represent some basic concepts, but they usually just like making pretty shapes.
I want a hard reboot of Warriors with more culture and stuff
Like there are actual divides between the way each Clan works with customs, beliefs, and certain ceremonies so that there’s reason for them to be separated factions
And instead of having different kinds of cat colonies, have them all work basically like Clans so that there isn’t kitty nationalism, just patriotism
And the loners and rogues know that that’s how wild cats normally live, but they just choose not to
This would explain why BloodClan is called a Clan, and why Barley knows about and believes in StarClan, and would still allow for the Tribe without having the Clan cats talk down about their culture all the time (maybe they would be MountainClan or something??)
Imagine how cool it would have been for Fireheart and Graystripe to see huge cultural differences between ThunderClan and WindClan on the journey home with them, or for Graystripe to start using RiverClan sayings when he started hanging out with Silverstream, or for Tigerstar to integrate bastardized versions of ThunderClan customs into TigerClan for the short time it existed, and for those ideas to still be loosely a part of ShadowClan
Image how cool it would have been to get a Tawnypelt perspective in The New Prophecy, where it shows how she struggled to be accepted into ShadowClan because she came from such a different way of life and that having her as one of the chosen cats was beneficial because she could bridge the cultural divide. Or maybe to have the Tribe be very similar to the Clans, but just different enough that it is off-putting to the journeying cats to add to the feeling of not knowing what these strangers will do next.
Imagine how cool it would have been for Lion, Jay, and Holly to go to the tribe because there was a new Clan forming by them and they had never dealt with neighbors before, so the Clans that we follow interfering would make sense.
Imagine how cool it would have been for the Dark Forest cats to make their own customs and traditions so as to feel like a real Clan, giving the cats training there more reason for feeling unified and connected to the dead villains.
It would just be a lot cooler if there was real divide between the Clans while making all the feral cat groups more similar.

Dovetooth : short and stocky she-cat with a flat face. Her fur is medium length, but real spikey. She is almost entirely grey except for a brown muzzle. Her eyes are gold. She is quiet, blunt, stoic and tough. (Also a cougar, like much older than her himbo of a husband) she has square eyes and short spikey ears. She has a short spikey tail, like dog.
Ferretfoot : tall and thin Tom cat mostly white except for black tail tip. He has grey eyes. He has a long thick tail. He has a little head with a short round muzzle and short round ears. He has large bright round eyes. He is 100% a himbo. (He has 100% white masking, covering ginger tabby)

Martenkit: a round-faced and short-muzzled calico she-cat with folded ears; no matter how she actually feels she always looks angry. Her face, chest, underbelly, paws and tail tip are white. Her back and tail are brown while the bridge of her nose is dark ginger. She has pale golden eyes.
Strawberrykit: a round-faced pale ginger tabby tom with long and spiky fur, especially on the back of his neck. He has tall pointy ears and a long feathery tail, his eyes are silver.
Lynxkit: a large, flat-faced, stocky she-cat with thick pale grey fur and small rounded ears. The lower half of her face is pale brown while her cheek fur is white. The tips of her ears and the toes of her back paws are also pale brown, she has a white chest, underbelly, paws and tail tip. She has a short tail and pale golden eyes.
