Mac laughed at his, what he now realized was stupid, remark. “Yeah, I know what you mean. I always wanted to be a father,” he looked down at the children making a mess with their food. He was wary not to get too close to them, knowing the mothers wouldn’t feel comfortable with their children being around a stranger. If Trish was able to though, maybe it wasn’t such an abstract idea.
He looked down at the dish Trish was preparing, hoping it was for him. He was hungry and pasta most definitely would hit the spot. “Makes perfect sense,” he said as he received the plate graciously. He remained standing, wasting no time before digging in. There wasn’t much more room at the table anyway, and he wanted to stay with Trish. Mac choked down the last mouthful of food that he took so he could answer her question. “Good, good. For an apocalypse this is some pretty damn good food!” Mac hesitated taking another bite remembering he should probably savor the taste instead of wolfing it down. Whenever he was presented food, his body just went into survival mode. “I think you’ve done enough cooking for now, get yourself some food. You deserve it,” Mac insisted as he looked into her eyes with affirmation.
The way Mac ate made her laugh. "Oh! " she said, noticing the intensity in his eyes. "Right. I totally forgot." Trish made herself a plate. She carefully twirled her spaghetti, holding a napkin with the plate, ready to wipe her mouth. She savored being able to be clean and civilized. She smiled after swallowing, contemplating his words. "Mm, you're so sweet. I bet you'd be a great dad." She took another careful bite and sighed. "All my friends were getting married and getting pregnant, while I was single and living with my brother." She laughed. "I was jealous and had the whole baby fever thing but I definitely was not ready." She frowned and said as nonchalantly as possible, looking at her spaghetti, "at the beginning of the outbreak I ended up having to kinda be a mom to one of the kids I worked with at the clinic. But ya know he uh died a few months later." Yeah cause you didn't protect him.
"But anyway," she said looking back at him. "You should meet the kids. Littlest one is Dakota," she said, pointing to the girl. "She is so adorable, I've already fallen in love with her. Aaand... oh, there's Owen," she pointed to the boy sitting and eating quietly. "And that one there is Jean." She noticed that all three kids did not seem to be interacting with anyone in particular, nor were any of the adults paying them special attention. "I don't know who they belong to actually," she said, slightly concerned.

Shaw had been on watch duty when he looked around the camp and saw a group of people being led into the welcome center by a small group of kids. He knew that Trish had been planning on making food for everyone with them; and since she didn’t ask him to go on a run for anything, she must have had everything she needed.
It had been a while since he had eaten and there was no movement out of the ordinary on the watch front. He let his gun slide down it’s strap to his side and then proceeded to climb down the ladder of the watch tower. Once on the ground he turned to look at the fence. There weren’t any walkers on it at the moment but he still needed to check if it was working. He dug through his pockets and pulled out a paper clip; quickly he flicked it at the fence and watched the sparks as it hit. Good he thought. Still operational. “Now I can eat in peace.” he said as he turned and started walking to the Welcome Center.
He must have been one of the last adults from the group to join the dinner party. It looked just about like everyone was there. The kids were helping Trish serve up plates of what had to be spaghetti; so he walked over and jokingly asked “Got any grub left for the weary watchmen?”
Trish felt a bit of sauce hit her arm. Dakota was ladling out the sauce onto the pasta for the hungry campers and wasn't very careful. Trish had to smile slightly - she again had red on her, but this time it wasn't blood. She patted Dakota on the shoulder. "Careful sweetie, this is precious stuff!" She looked back up as Shaw walked over to her. She smiled broadly. "Of course! I am so glad you took a break and came over. I guess I had to return the favor of your cooking, right." She handed him his plate. "Enjoy!" She looked around and noticed that while many people were eating, there were still a few people missing. There was more than enough food left, and she truly hoped that she could get this hearty meal into everybody tonight.

Mac followed a few others into a congregated room filled with the smells of Italy. Okay, so maybe it was just a hint of tomato paste, but he was amazed at how much he missed the smell of a home cooked meal. The kids leading the group seemed all too proud of their concoction and Mac couldn’t help but smile at the adorable young ones. He knew there had to be someone else behind the dinner though; there was no way in hell a 7 year old nonetheless anyone younger than that knew how to cook spaghetti without ruining it somewhere along the way.
As he furthered himself into the packed room, he made out the figure behind the boiling pots. It was Trish. How on earth could this woman get any better? She must’ve been reading his mind because he was about to pass out from hunger from not eating since he woke up that morning. He was working the fields with Rick trying to buddy-up with the leader to get on his good side.
Mac waltzed his way over to the food. Not the mess ready to be dished out on the table, but to the fresh pasta still being tended by the cook. “Look at you, making dinner for everybody and keeping the children out of trouble. What’s got your maternal instincts going today?” Mac schmoozed watching Trish stir the remaining food in the pot.
Trish was absentmindedly mixing the pasta and watching the group eat. They seemed to be enjoying what she had made. She wanted to obsessively ask them if the food was OK but managed to suppress the urge. She looked down to the pasta when she heard Mac's voice. She tensed slightly and felt her heart jump. She laughed nervously. "My maternal instincts?" She looked towards the kids that had helped her cook dinner. They were happily eating their own food and getting messy. "Ah, I mean. They're cute right? I love kids. I always wanted my own family so this is probably the best I'll get." She grabbed a dish and doled Mac out his meal. "Everyone needs to eat and I can cook." She shrugged. "Just kinda makes sense. I'm pretty useless otherwise." She handed him the plate and finally looked at him. Her heart jumped again, which annoyed her. Are you serious right now Trish. Come on. The guy is not interested. This is just pathetic. He's got to be gay. I'm sure of it. You're stupid. He's not gay. He's just not blind. He's just nice. Absolutely pathetic. Her heart began to pound as her thoughts overwhelmed her. She shook her head to make them stop. The voices were much worse here at the safe camp, when she was able to let her mind relax a little. She looked at Dakota again. The girl had gotten sauce in her brown hair but didn't care a bit. Each noodle was being eaten individually with her fingers. Trish smiled and took a deep breath. Her body relaxed and she looked back at Mac. "So... what do you think? About the food I mean."

Trish walked around the camp, looking for where the kids congregated. She saw three kids sitting together on the ground, passing a ball between them. “Hey kids!” She said walking over to them. They all looked up at her quizzically. She bent low towards them and smiled sweetly. “My name is Trish.” She scrunched her nose, “I’m kinda new here. I thought it would be fun to make a really yummy meal for everybody here. Do you guys think that sounds fun?” They seemed to be considering her. One girl, looking to be the eldest nodded thoughtfully. “I guess so.” She stood up and wiped her hands on her pants. The other children followed suit. “I’m Jean, this is Owen, and this is Dakota.” She had a slight bossy tone in her voice that amused Trish. Clearly this girl, no older than 7, was the leader of this little group. “Well, it’s good to meet all of you. Come on, let’s go make somethin’ good.” She waved them closer and began walking towards the welcome building. On the way, Dakota, a girl of maybe 3 or 4 years with big brown eyes and long brown hair skipped. “Umm, Trish, whadd-er we makin’?” Trish grinned. “I’ll show you.” Owen kept his hands in his pockets and walked quickly to keep up, with his head down.
They all walked inside the building and into the kitchen area. Trish had put all of the necessary ingredients together on the counter. Dakota gasped. “Are we makin’ pas-a-sagetti?” Jean looked over the ingredients. “No, there’s no pasta sauce.” Trish laughed. “Actually, we are making spaghetti. Real spaghetti is made like this - no sauce in jars.” She directed Jean to find some pots and pans, which she did quickly. Dakota was touching all of the ingredients, asking questions about them. Owen whispered the answers to her, “that’s a spice… it’s called oregano… I don’t know it’s a plant… that’s tomatoes…” There were no measuring cups or spoons to be found, so Trish made a mental note that finding those would be necessary for next time. She didn’t actually need them, but she was eager to teach the kids some math. She clapped and rubbed her hands together. “Alright, let’s get these hands washed and get cookin’!”
After she helped the kids to properly wash their hands, she began delegating orders. "Ok Jean, can you fill up these two big pots about halfway with water?" Jean immediately rushed off to complete her task. Trish grabbed a large, clean knife near the sink and said seriously, "ok watch out please." She figured there wasn't a can opener, so she jammed the knife into one can and maneuvered it so a big enough hole was formed. She did the same to the other 2 cans and instructed Owen to pour all of the contents into the remaining pot. Jean reemerged holding a large heavy pot close to her. Trish quickly grabbed it and placed it on the stove while Jean left to bring the other pot back. Trish pointed to the controls for the stove. "Dakota, you see this one here? We are going to turn it all the way so that the water can boil. Can you do that to both of these knobs?" Dakota nodded and did so. Jean returned again lugging the other pot of water. She heaved it into Trish's hands, who placed it on another burner. She instructed Owen to get a spoon, and began letting the group pour small amounts of spice into the pot with canned tomatoes and sauce. Owen mixed the sauce while Jean poured dry noodles into both boiling pots of water.
Soon the room was filling with the rich scents of tomato and spice. Everyone had a part in stirring, tasting, and eventually draining the cooked pasta. Owen helped himself to a few extra tasting of sauce, and smiled sheepishly when Trish noticed. Finally, the food was done. Trish grabbed a large stack of plates and set them near the stove. She told the kids to inform everyone that dinner was ready. Of course, all three kids ran to all corners of the camp, telling people to hurry up and come to eat. Trish took a taste of the completed sauce. It wasn't something she would be happy with pre-outbreak, but for the supplies she had, it was pretty darn good. She figured that the group would enjoy a good hot meal. People were beginning to make their way into the building, many with curious expressions. She happily made up plates of the steaming pasta and sauce for each person as they approached.

Morning Chores // Mac and Trish

Mac enjoyed Trish’s presence. Actually, he was sure that he wouldn’t let her go if she wanted to leave for the night. In the moment, this was all he needed. Safe tranquility. He didn’t have to worry about walkers since the fence was holding them back, and he didn’t have any responsibilities for the rest of the night. Mac perked up when he heard a mention of hot chocolate. He smiled at the thought. “Heh. I’m sure I would,” Mac felt Trish getting closer to him, if that was even possible, when she told him she wished she had her guitar. This girl knew how to play music and cook? This had to be some match sent from heaven. “Maybe we could find one on a supply run,” Mac offered, making sure that they go through enough houses to find one. He wanted to hear what this girl was capable of.
Trish was fighting the urge to stay awake and it was quite noticeable… and cute. That’s why Malcolm didn’t do anything to encourage her. Luckily, she did give in as she rested her head on his shoulder, which fit perfectly. She was clearly uncomfortable in that position though and gave in to her desire to sleep. Mac was surprised when she pulled him up with her. He wouldn’t have let her walk away without him anyway, but it was nice to see her showing initiative. She walked him over to her tent as Mac made a mental note that she was in number nine. As she turned to look at him, he noticed the look he was receiving. He recognized that familiar glance as the universal sign that a woman wants a kiss. Then again, if his brain deceived him, he wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to give in and kiss her when he would be seeing her day in and day out for as long as both of them stay alive. He couldn’t live with that amount of embarrassment this early on. Plus this girl was younger than him so he had to be the one to make the responsible decisions. Mac was pretty sure that she had feelings for him, but since women were so hard to read, he could never be sure. He declined any instinctual behaviors that he could act upon and briefly rubbed her back with his hand. “Sleep well. I’ll be seeing you around tomorrow,” Mac finalized as he left the girl to her bed.
A guitar had seemed like such a non-necessity to Trish when Mac mentioned getting one. Supply runs were extremely dangerous and even the thought of them scared Trish. She vaguely remembered when her brother had come back from a run without her father. Instead he had brought back people that eventually attacked and killed most of her family. She pushed the thoughts away, too tired to be getting upset.
At the tent, Mac turned and walked away, wishing her to sleep well. She frowned for a minute, watching him. She sighed, and went inside to lay down. She had many thoughts going through her head. Was it not obvious she wanted a kiss? Did he not like her? She could have sworn…. well. No. Maybe Trish was only seeing what she wanted to see. She supposed it didn’t really matter - maybe she didn’t like him either. Maybe she was just latching on to the closest thing she could. She shook her head. OK that’s just ridiculous. I do like him. She was almost surprised that she wasn’t mad he hadn’t made any moves. She remembered back to the shower, in which Mac hadn’t said or did anything. Of course, at the time she appreciated it, but now realized that there was probably a more than just gentlemanly reason for it. Oh my God, he’s gay. Maybe that’s it. Trish had met a guy at work before the outbreak and was interested in. She kept trying to get her feelings across, but they were always dismissed. She had been extremely hurt until he came out to her. Trish had felt very embarrassed at the time, but the two ended up becoming good friends. She smiled, thinking of Mac again. She supposed she hadn’t come on too strong, so hopefully Mac hadn’t even noticed. He was still a good friend, and she appreciated the need to have someone around to keep her sane. Oh well, she thought, curling up with her bat under her covers. At least I’m not the lovesick crying puppy I used to be.

He watched her as she took some of the food and he continued to eat. There was plenty to go around and he had to get back to work anyway. He paused when she put her hand on his shoulder. He had always like female attention, but she was young. He finished off his chili as to not draw attention to himself. He didn’t want to go and give the girl the wrong idea. When he finished he got up and cleaned out his cup and put it back where he found it, looking over to see the girl going through the food supply. “Just let me know if you need anything and I’ll see what I can come up with.” he said as he headed for the door to continue patrolling. Now that lunch was over he really should get back to it. “You can finish off whats in the pan there if you want too.”
She nodded, mostly to herself at Shaw's words. She was deep in thought while looking through the food. She had already finished what was in her cup and was already feeling satisfied. She never did eat much, and wasn't about to start now. Besides, it wasn't really worth it to fill up on this stuff if she were going to prepare something better later.

She thought about it. She didn’t think they had ever had an actual group dinner before. “Yeah sure, that sounds good” she said looking down to the girl. “I probably come down here in a bit, if you want to save me some chow.” she said as she heard her stomach rumble with hunger.
Trish grinned at Asa's mention that should would come down to eat what Trish prepared. She knew it probably didn't mean much, but it still made Trish happy that should could do something that people wanted. "I definitely will."

"Oh okay. Actually I am thinking of getting the kids together in a little while and cooking dinner for everyone. Do you think that’s be cool?" She didn’t want to step on anybodys types, but she figured the group could use some normalcy around here.
"Hey." Trish saw the unfamiliar blonde girl in the camp. She was extremely wary of new people, especially people that were new to the camp, even though she knew had only been here a week longer. Her hand lingered absentmindedly over the knife at her hip. She eyed the girl...
Trish considered the girl's response. She was new everywhere? Did this mean she wasn't intending on staying long? What would she take in the process? Was she here to hurt us? Trish's heart began to pound as she let her paranoia take over. She hadn't become close with anyone here but Mac, but that didn't mean she wouldn't kill to protect them. Her mind was racing-she probably looked crazy. Maybe she was. Maybe that was a good thing. She took a deep breathand put on a fake smile. She made a mental note to grab her bat the first chance she got and just carry it around. "Um. Like a week or so." She but her bottom lip as usual. "We are good strong people here." She emphasized the word strong. If the girl was smart, she figured they could get along just fine.
Trish smelled something from inside the welcome center. It smelled like… food cooking. Her mouth began to salivate at the scent that was wafting through the open doors. She went inside and saw Shaw stirring inside a pan in the kitchen. She smiled at him and looked inside the...
Shaw offered to go on a run if more food was necessary. She decided to take a look at what the group currently had before requesting that the guy go on something as dangerous as a run. She almost instantly had said he should, but realized she was not at home-she was no longer able to just tell people to do things for her. Part of her had enjoyed being able to do that, but part felt rude. Her mom had always told others to do things for her, and trish wanted to be at least somewhat self sufficient. Shaw offered her some of the food. She grabbed a small cup and put a few spoonfuls of the Chili in it. She sipped it like a thick drink. It really want half bad. .. whatever it was. She placed a hand on his shoulder. "Thank you. " the guy was eating it so obviously the food want poisonous, and she wanted him to know she really did appreciate the small bite to eat.
Taking her snack with her, she searched through the food remaining. It was a decent variety of options-the group had done well. She spotted some pasta and canned tomatoesas well as tomato puree. No way. She checked the expiration dates-they were well within the safe dates. She began to get excited. Looking more, there were even some spices and sugar. She laughed to herself-she never would have thought she could be thankful for foods so full of preservatives. She wouldn't be able to make her famous marinara and pasta, but she could make a decent knockoff. She knew there were kids here, and thought she would make a cooking/math lesson or of this.
On her way with Mac, walking towards the welcome center, Trish saw a dog walking by a tent. Trish paused at first, not knowing if this was a pet or some wild dog that had somehow made its way into the camp. She had had a run-in with a large stray dog when she was with her...
She grinned widely and put her hand out slowly to let the dog sniff. The dog did so, so trish began petting the dogs head slowly. It was such a normal human experience and made trish very happy. She had had one pet growing up, an irish setter, a purebred of course, named grace. Trish had been in charge of brushing the dog daily, a chore she greatly enjoyed. She didn't get to play with the dog much, as her parents paid someone to exercise the dog daily. Grace was bought for her look, rather than her personality. After a few years, trishs parents decided the dog was too energetic and sold her. When trish and her brother moved out, she had contemplated getting a cat or something but it just never worked out.
"Hi sweetie. You're a nice puppy huh?" She said in a soft voice. She scratched the dogs head once more and looked back at Shaw. "Thank you so much." She gave a small wave and continued on her way.
Don’t worry, about a thing.. because every little thing, is gonna be alright. -singing softly- It’s actually pretty okay here. Definitely not the worst situation i’ve been in by far.

You couldn’t exactly call it cooking. All you had to do for an MRE was heat up some water. That was easy now that they had power.
Shaw had wandered into the welcome center and found his way to the kitchen area. He snooped around the cupboards for a pan to heat the water in.
Once that was done all he had to do was add the MRE packet into the pan and stir it up. He was surprised when what formed in front of him looked like chili. “Well that’s as good as anything else we’ve got,” he said with a shrug.
Trish smelled something from inside the welcome center. It smelled like... food cooking. Her mouth began to salivate at the scent that was wafting through the open doors. She went inside and saw Shaw stirring inside a pan in the kitchen. She smiled at him and looked inside the pot. It was.... some form of chili. It looked almost edible and Trish realized what she could actually do to help the group. She enjoyed cooking, and her food always got rave reviews. Of course, that was during the time where all necessary fresh ingredients were only a short, safe, walk away to the nearest grocery store. "If someone goes on a run to a grocery, I would take care of cooking. It would be good, I swear."

With so many people leaving after the group was attacked, there was hardly anyone to take watch anymore.
Asa had been sitting on the watch tower for almost a full 24 hours and was starting to get weary, but this had to be done. She pulled out a pack of cigarettes that she had found in her tent; she hadn’t smoked in a very long time, but she was willing to do anything to keep awake.
Trish noticed the girl she had met, Asa, at the watch tower. The girl looked about ready to fall asleep, as she grabbed a cigarette and began smoking. Trish laughed a little to herself. She absolutely hated smoking before the outbreak. She was honestly very judgmental of it or anyone that did it. Back when people were meant to live to at least 80, smoking seemed like such a terrible thing to do. But now, when it's more assured that we could be dead the next day, it really didn't matter so much. No one was getting pregnant, the effects of second-hand smoke probably wouldn't even effect her by the time she died, and she was able to appreciate that nicotine was an easy anti-depressant to use. More enjoyable for smokers to have instead of needing to get pills that had more immediate side effects. She looked up again at the girl and squinted an eye against the sun. "Hey! Can I... get you something?" Trish would be doing no one any good as a guard, but she had no problem doing little errands around the base to help out.
