I had an old story idea for a world where there was a huge nuclear war that took place in 2030 called the Colossal War, that wiped out all the humans. The story takes place in 2270 and follows a young Ape-like creature that resembles both human and monkey. He lives in a group of similar creatures that called their race the Chimpu.

These Chimpu lived in small packs and survived only because the humans hid them away during the Colossal War. Once the war ended, and the humans were extinct, the monkeys freed themselves and evolved into a more human-like species. All sorts of races of monkeys had evolved to an almost human level. They learned how to read, write, and speak English from their ancestors; who had learned English from their original Human owners. 

The Chimpu you see here is a Scout. These guys head out and search for food or new hiding places for their pack. They wear these outfits to protect themselves from the sand and from large insect predators.
