With drink in hand Tristan had done his mingling, had offered up a few dances with locals he knew pretty well, and now was making his way towards one of the tables, intent on setting down his drink and finding some food -- at the very least dessert -- they couldn't have this without all sugary things, right? Galas were not really something that Tristan enjoyed, or well, he wasn't used to. Military events, dressed in his dress blues, were one thing, these were still an adjustment. Even if he vaguely remember his father attending these events throughout his childhood and growing up. After eighteen he had been to anything like this except since he returned. He couldn't remember how many he had attended since returning but at least a couple, and now he found himself here. Determined to have a good time, he really felt like he was adjusting better now that he was working. Heading to the bar he glanced at the different choices that were being offered as specials, "Anything you're enjoying so far? Or is it better to just get something more simple?"

Simplicity at it's finest, you find Tristan Newman. He isn't someone who enjoys going over the top with anything in a theme. But he will always try and accessorize to fit the event. With rose boutonniere, a tie that shows off a few different roses in different colors, he adds in a little more touch with a rose gold watch with deep wine face and a pair of dress shoes that have lightly embossed roses.

While she's spent majority of her life in London, where snow wasn't all that much of a rarity, huge storms like the one currently looming over Merrock were few and far between. Kenzie remembered a few such storms from her youth, the family all gathering at the farm to secure anything that needed protecting from the winter weather. While her condo needed no such preparation, Kenzie had decided to stop for some hot food on the way home, rather than expecting some poor Doordasher to fight the weather to bring it to her. "Can you blame them?" Kenzie replied when Tristan arrived beside her, glancing up at him. "At least people haven't been panic buying all the groceries." The people of Merrock were used to this sort of thing, and didn't bother clearing out the shelves. Sure, they grabbed a few extra packets of batteries but that was about it.

If he remembered, in the past, they had had some significant storms growing up. Wasn't something that was always a continual thing for the whole winter, but he had to admit, this was his first full winter back since he had come back in March of last year. That meant that he was adjusting to the cold again, but he was more happy that he'd be driving around trying to help than cooped up in his place waiting out the storm. "Not really, no. Who wants to cook during a storm, add in the possible chance of losing power? I mean.. I haven't been to the grocery store so I don't know if they haven't emptied out the toilet paper and milk." he chuckled. "I'm just trying to grab a few different choices before tossing them in my truck and driving around for a few hours."

Even after a decade in Maine, Wes still was not fond of dealing with severe snow storms. This was especially the case when he was set to work. Wes had stopped by to pick up some food before he made his way back home after spending the day at the cemetery, maintaining the place through the snowfall so far. It had been days of preparing beforehand. He was waiting for his dinner when he heard Tristan's question. "Wouldn't call it stocking up, but I can't speak for everybody else." He was sure that there were enough folks in town who had done just that, but he was simply in search of dinner in a warm restaurant.

It seemed like the last couple of winters that he had been home snow had been fond of showing up in Merrock. Tristan didn't really mind, growing up here he had seen his fair share of them, and now he preferred still getting out, seeing if anyone in town needed help versus being holed up in his home. "I'm grabbing a few things myself, mainly to throw in my truck to have while I'm driving around the next few hours. "I figure they're probably trying to get us in and out, figure they'll be wanting to send the staff home soon." Glancing out the door to see the snow was picking up some.

The houseboat had seemed like a really, really good idea. Move to a new town, see that it's coastal, decide to live as close to the water as possible -- logic, right? That was what Ashleigh reminded herself of as she spent the time cleaning off the roof of the boat, turning off any of the utilities that she didn't need, dripping all her lines, and packing a small bag. She had seen that the community center was open to anyone who needed a place to stay, and also needed volunteers to help out. Two birds, one stone, maybe? It would be better than waiting it out on the ocean, watching the storm roll in and take over the town. Or at least, that was what she told herself as she stood in line, waiting for something hot and fresh to eat before finishing off the drive to the center. The roads weren't great, but… she did have that brand new truck with brand new snow tires on it, she wasn't going to let a foot of snow keep her from something safe and warm and dry, chalked up to years of driving all over the country down dirt roads or twisted highways to get from show to show. Glancing up when she realized someone was talking to her, she let out a laugh, nodding her head, "probably last call before they have to close up and let everyone get home. Tristan, right?" she narrowed her eyes thoughtfully, remembering him from the candy shop only a couple of months ago.

At this point, he was just happy he had a truck that should, in theory, get him through the bad weather. Now, nothing was perfect, you could slide, if there was any ice -- but for the most part, Tristan could handle himself. It was a big reason he found himself ready with plow to help out those locals if anyone got stuck, if a driveway needed plowing that an elderly couple couldn't shovel, and he didn't expect anything for it. Wasn't that the point of a small town? To help people out when needed without expectation because that's what people did? As he waited in line, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jeans, he rocked back on the balls of his feet balancing himself for a moment before landing back on his feet flat. "Would make sense, it's starting to get heavier out there, and I'm sure the workers want to get home as much as anyone does. Yeah, that's me." he nodded, "Grabbing a few things before you head back home too?"

It was storms like these that had Kennedy missing the South. Never mind she'd lived here for more than a decade, the dead of winter was something she always disliked in the Northern states. She always tried to err on the side of caution, stocking up on essentials, prepared to hunker down if the worst came to the worst. The weather came earlier than she thought, the lights in her place flickering like a warning, as if the whistling wind wasn't enough, she thought it'd be better to stop to grab something rather than the lights cutting off halfway through preparing a meal. The restaurant was warm, and Kennedy was waiting amongst a queue of other customers, making quiet conversation. Turning at the sound of someone's voice as they entered through the door, a gust of cold air followed in. "Well, who knows with all this, it may be a safe bet. But in my case, I figured I'd have a hot meal while things are still open."

Tristan had braved all kinds of different weather, but he could admit, winter storms, were some of the ones he hated the most. They could be unpredictable, could end up being far more than predicted, and people always had a mindset if they lived in an area their whole life they were immune because they knew better. But with the weather changing, seeing the snow come down turning from light flakes to heavier downfall meant he knew he'd be on the road for awhile. "Probably a good idea, might be hard to get out by tomorrow, I'm just grabbing some food to throw in my truck while I drive around. Put the plow on so figure I can help pitch in."

"You know how irony works, though, you get through the scary thing and then-" Kellan stopped, letting out a low whistle, "-you're back home and you don't have a penis anymore. Tragic." He shook his head. "Wow, that's too kind of you. I'll go anywhere I can get something warm, maybe eggs? Plus, there's gotta only be so many places open right now."

"Think you could consider that my one way ticket out of here if that happened, can't come back from that so you need to pack up and leave. Settle somewhere out west, send you a letter every now and again." he laughed, knowing that it wasn't going to happen, unless there was some kind of horrible accident and no one wanted to think that was going to happen to them. "But I appreciate your concern for me to keep my dick." Tristan retorted. "Diners are always open open, they're made for mornings, plus I need to eat so think of it as really that." Taking the coffee from him, "Let me go get changes I'm pretty sure just swim trunks are frowned upon in places you eat."

Everyone else had off, but I was back into the office on the second, making sure to have everything ready to go post-holiday. I don't really do time off, it doesn't suit me. Oh, you're welcome, it was a pretty good time, and it does feel good being able to make someone's holiday a little bit better. You didn't? I was absolutely there -- both at the party the night before and the plunge, I haven't missed a year since I moved to town. It's always a good way to start things off, little shock to the system, yeah?

You don't know how to stay still, do you? Not judging, I'm the same way. With everything going on with the storm, the garage wasn't exactly pumping with people bringing by things to work on, so I was out with my truck plowing and helping where I could since the city can only do so much at a time. No, didn't see you, but I was more trying to jump in the water and get my ass out. Not sure if I just am a glutton for punishment but it reminds me a lot of training I did in the Navy so call me... nostalgic.

It was nice! My mother and sister came in to visit, I don't see them very often, so we got to run around town together, and mostly I spent as much of my free time as I could with my grandmother. How about you, other than the depression post-holiday, did you have a nice holiday? I don't think there's a Halloween scrooge equivalent... unless you count the like, uber religious people who aren't into it?

I'm sure that kept you busy, but glad you got to see your family for a bit. Always nice when you get to see them for a little bit. It was nice, saw my siblings and their families, got to give my nieces and nephews annoying gifts that their parents will forever want to kill me for, but it's all in good spirit, right? Nah, can tell you, that isn't me so think I am just whatever the first Halloween scrooge would be.

What: Winter Snowstorm 2026

When: late January

Snow was coming down, it wasn't so heavy you couldn't see through it -- but it came down still heavier than a fine flake. It was another winter where a storm was blowing into town and Tristan felt on edge. He knew how to prepare for disasters, but he wasn't used to not having someone to boss around during them. Usually it was his troops, but now it was just him, still figuring out his balance. It was far better now, with working at the garage, continually letting himself bust his ass on cars until he was covered in sweat, aching in a way he remembered all too well. When the storm had been brewing, words flitting around by people wondering if it would really storm or not, he had hooked the plow up to the front of his Ford Raptor just to be ready. Now he was glad he did, as he patrolled the roads, he managed to clean up a few places that looked like they didn't have anyone to do it. Sure, the town kept working on their own but Tristan needed to feel like he was doing something. After several hours, light starting to go down he parked the truck and hopped out heading into one of the few establishments still open to grab some food for the truck before heading back out. There was a few stragglers inside, "Everyone stocking up on takeout too?" Asking the person next to him.

"Nearly impossible, but not absolutely impossible." Kellan quirked a brow over at him. "Never had complaints to your face doesn't mean they're not happening, but I'll believe you. Don't want to discredit the family skills." He nodded. "I can get us both a very strong, black coffee. I'm sure it's strong, it's just a question of if it's good or not." He made his way to the coffee dispensers, simply grateful to have one in each hand on the walk over.

"Yes well, I'm happy to keep my appendages just as they are. That would be the preferred way, if I didn't lose them in the military I should at least be safe in my own hometown." he retorted, because it was true, if he had had the most chance it would have been in service with something going horribly wrong. But he had enough scars on his body, evident by the large one that expansed over his chest and abdomen. "Fair, strong but to be determined on how good. Still, I'll get us breakfast after, your choice where."

Your jewelry went over so well during the holiday, so thank you for that. My youngest sister loved the couple of pairs of earrings I got her. Don't think I got the chance to ask, how long have you been doing your bead work for jewelry?

Take it you're back in the thick of work with everything now that the holidays have come to pass? Want to thank you for going out and doing the Angel Trees that was probably my favorite thing I've done in the last year and absolutely going to make it a regular thing. Did you have a good start to the New Year? I don't think I saw you out at the polar plunge but I feel like that was such a blur of jumping in and trying not to freeze myself into a ice cube that I probably wasn't paying attention.

So, how was your holiday season? I'll admit it's a little depressing seeing most of the lights around Lupine Lane get tucked away now that I've fully settled in. I definitely appreciate the Christmas look more than the Halloween look though, so think either I'll need someone to come in and set that up or at least remind me to not be the Scrooge of Halloween? Is there something for that?

"Think it takes a lot for the appendages to fall off," Kellan explained, trying to towel off his hair before it froze solid, it was probably a losing battle. He'd already pulled a sweater back on, the wet be damned. "Unless it's something kind of small to begin with," he teased, winking at his brother. "Can't really help you there, though. But I can grab you a cocoa. Or a coffee, if that's your speed."

"I'm pretty sure they're nearly impossible unless cut off, just saying big bro, don't worry." Tristan laughed, his personality of late was a bit lighter, and he really thanked that to working as a mechanic that Josh had offered him. "Given I've never had complaints I think I'm good, thanks though, good to know." Laughing as he shook water from his hair. "Coffee, very strong coffee. Though I guess it's probably whatever they have." he said, "How about if you grab a coffee for me here I'll treat us to breakfast after we can manage to warm up some?"
