I don't understand how someone can reblog this, see Amazon and Shein on the list, and not connect that these companies are producing shit because Y'ALL KEEP BUYING IT!
Why is it unethical to ride horses and have them working?
I have a lot of information on this in my horse riding tag here, but in short, animals don’t exist to be our entertainment or transportation.
Horses need exercise, but they no more require riding than dogs do, therefore doing so is mostly for the benefit of the rider, not the horse. Using animals as entertainment in this way is against their better interests and is not something that any responsible pet owner should take part in.
Riders will often claim that riding is the only way to properly exercise horses, and this may well be true if you don't have access to open spaces and your horse spends most of their time stabled in an enclosed stall or in a small paddock, as is the case for many animals. But if you can't properly exercise your horse without sitting on their back and risking the health complications that commonly comes with that, then frankly, you just shouldn't own a horse.
As for working horses, the same principle applies. Horses should be free to pursue their own interests and exercise their own preferences, rather than to live and work in service of human enterprise. There is just no good argument to be made that this is in any way in the best interests of the animal.
It's pretty dead here and I don't haven't had scenes going on for a long time. I'm unsure about what to do.
