YSABEAU M. FLINT. twenty-five. she/her. guard in the protection divison. i had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go — where the wind don't change, and nothing in the ground can ever grow. no hope, just lies! && you're taught to cry into your pillow — but i s u r v i v e d
Ysabeau’s patrols for the protection division typically had her in the skies, scanning the edges of the forbidden forest and winding roads of Hogsmede for signs of inferi. But today of all days, her route took her to the tent village that sprung up around the grounds, comprised of folks who didn’t trust the little Hogwartsian community enough to stay in the castle — magical and muggle alike. She’d witnessed a little girl wandering towards the whomping willow and her legs moved before her mouth or wand hand did, diving to yank her out of the reach of the living tree — successfully, though the act resulted in a swift slam of those very same branches to her chest. She was flat on her back in seconds, swearing up a storm —
— and now, staring up at the face of her twin brother.
“How — ” Ysa wheezed, curling in on herself. The ache in her lungs let up after a few deep breaths. “How do you always manage to be there just as I’m making an arse of myself?”
“You know, I-I, um, get the whole ‘moving staircase’ and ‘gifs on the wall’ and everything else but…” Celeste held a hand over her eyes, edging behind the nearest person while peaking through her fingers at a very clearly, disgruntled Nearly-Headless Nick. “I don’t really, ah, get the whole, um…” She shuddered, turning so that she was mostly hidden. It wasn’t everyday that you were faced with a nearly headless ghost after surviving zombie attacks. “It’s just…the one thing I could never do is, like, haunted houses so I just…how– do I go back to the area where there is no..ghosts?”
“Gifs on the wall...” Ysabeau barely suppressed a snort. Hands in her trouser pockets, she sidled up to her House ghost with a wide grin. “Hey, Sir Nick! Your death-day’s coming up, right? I heard the Grey Lady is planning a surprise...” Nearly-Headless Nick gave Ysa a deep bow in response, his nearly-severed head lolling to one side, before gliding off to discuss the preparations for his annual party with his other spectral friends.
The witch turned to Celeste. “So, um, unfortunately, the ghosts have free reign over the castle. They have some popular...haunts, though, that are easy enough to avoid. Don’t go to the girl’s bathroom on the second floor. That’s Moaning Myrtle’s hangout.”
YSABEAU MARGARET FLINT really is the spitting image of LYDIA GRAHAM, right? For someone only 24 years old, YSA has been forced to endure so much. Yeah, that PUREBLOOD has been scraping by at the sanctuary since JUNE, 2028, working as a GUARD in the DIVISION OF PROTECTION. SHE is a CIS-WOMAN and is known to be AGGRESSIVE and BRUTISH but also PRAGMATIC and CARING. Best of luck surviving through this. (Note: Ysa was raised as Damien’s fraternal twin, but is actually his half-sister!)
CHARACTER PARALLELS: zuko (atla), nancy downs (the craft), susanna (girl, interrupted), tracy freeland (thirteen), the furies.
GENERAL WARNINGS: child abandonment, dysfunctional family, verbal abuse.
bio
i. it’s pronounced “EE-zah-boh”, in case you were wondering.
ii. ysabeau can’t remember where her rage comes from, but she’s felt it her entire life. tantrums so strong that the walls shook with accidental magic surges, hexes shot at classmates who stepped on her toes, screaming into pillows after a long, stressful day. she has so much trouble managing her anger that she feels lost in it, sometimes. worries that one day, she’s really going to hurt someone: everyone always says, after all, how much she takes after her father, marcus.
iii. [VERBAL ABUSE TW] marcus channeled his anger into quidditch, messing about with dark magic and taking his aggression out on people who were smaller than him, weaker than him. he took a lot of pride in his brute strength and even more in his bloodline. try as he might to instill that into ysabeau, he was largely unsuccessful, because his daughter did not like being told what to do. ysa’s fights with her father were legendary — but being bigger and older, marcus always had the upper hand. at first, this meant groundings, dismissal from the dinner table without dessert, but as ysabeau grew more obstinate, the punishments escalated — now accompanied by horrible words. the first time her father told her she was stupid and selfish, she cried for days. [END TW] (NOTE: sam and i are totally open and willing to have a marcus in the RP, and i can change this section if needed!)
iv. true to the flint name, she liked flying. ysa took to quidditch like a fish to water; playing as a beater for the gryffindor quidditch team from second year on, relishing in the fact that she could take a bat to something — even hitting other players — and have it not throw herself further into the idea that she is secretly a bad person. because she must be a bad person for feeling this way, right? so out of control, so violent??
v. ysa played as a beater for the tutshill tornadoes and was heading into her fifth year on the team when the zombie outbreak hit. the british and irish league carried on for a few more months, a decision made by the department of magical games and sports as a means of keeping the public hopeful — until travel became too risky, and the teams were grounded until the general population could be considered safe.
but they never were.
ysabeau floo’d to damien’s flat the second she realized that quidditch wasn’t going to start up again; this was unfortunately just a few weeks before the fall of the ministry. she and damien camped out in the countryside, and later fought their way to scotland for a few months before finally arriving at hogwarts in june.
vi. she doesn’t know that they’re not actually twins, but she’s always noticed something off about the way the family treats her brother. she’s a veritable pain in the ass, sure, but her father’s never been distant and disappointed with her the way he is with he is with damien. she’s always been aware that their mother favored her over him — and she hates it, because he’s the best guy around.
damien, by the way, is her favorite person on the planet, and if they both survive the apocalypse long enough to see damien find a husband, she’ll cry like a baby the whole time. the only time the two don’t get along is when ysa challenges him to arm wrestling contests and squeezes his hand too hard — or when they’re under duress due to like, inferi.
