this is a story of human folly, and how my egotistical ass refuses to admit im wrong ever. also the story of why i dont trust lawyers.
im taking a law course right now that requires basic medical classes (med term and A&P). i took these classes in high school, and unfortunately i couldnt transfer the credit or anything, but the classes were extremely easy because i remembered most of the info. also unfortunately, this made me very overconfident.
in med term, we had two different quiz styles - spelling quizzes, and match-the-definition quizzes. the definition quizzes were hard, so i gave them their due respect. the spelling quizzes though were painfully easy for me, and we also got five attempts for them, which i felt was unnecessary.
they were set up like so:
"choose which, if any, are spelled correctly.
for one question, the words were "pulmonary", "fibia", and "hyperhydrosis".
of course, i read these, and i say cool. all spelled correctly. no need to think any further about it. and i complete my little quiz, just to see at the end that i got the question completely wrong. and i was like, huh, thats weird. okay i guess ill retake the quiz. best as well.
i do a different combination of answers, this time excluding "hyperhydrosis". still wrong. i take it again. different combination of answers. still wrong.
you see, every time i took this quiz, i included "fibia" as being spelled correctly. and folks, let me tell you, fibia is not a real fucking word. the human body has a "tibia" and a "fibula", both of which are bones in the calf.
neither of which is a fucking fibia.
a "fibia" is NOT A THING!!!
but i was so convinced that it was a thing, that i refused to even double check myself or anything. didnt look it up. didnt verify. was 100% going to die on the hill that fibia is a real word.
i wasted all five quiz attempts and got the question wrong every single time, and instead of realizing i was wrong, i became deeply convinced that my professor had coded the quiz incorrectly. theres no way *I*, in all of my greatness, could POSSIBLY be WRONG about this.
anyway i told my mom about it and she laughed at me in my face.
the moral of the story is that humans can grow, change, and learn. except for me because this was like two months ago and i would still do this if i was given the chance.
im going to be a lawyer someday.
