I wanted to share more info about my personal takes on ZEXAL! So I’ll talk about my versions for the Arclight Brothers and the whole Arclight Family arc!
DISCLAIMER: I like to approach rewrites and personal interpretations with genuine care for the source material and I’m not intending to be demeaning and go about it in an art fixing way. You’re free to disagree with me on my opinions, thoughts, and interpretations (Unless you’re ACTUALLY condoning harmful things, that’s when I’ll start to raise concerns)
So I don’t talk about my media criticisms publicly in general, but personally, I’m not a fan of how some aspects of the Arclight Brother and Vetrix arc were handled canonically. I wanted to try my own spin on it and see how I would write that plot point in the series! I’ve been taking my time and have been researching on the subject matter for this arc since I want to tackle it respectfully if any bigger projects come from this.
Some of these headcanons come from my research, and others I felt were just simply fitting for their characters!
Some of these headcanons I don’t exactly know yet when they happen! Such as Chris cutting his hair, so his hair length will most likely vary from drawing to drawing!
Oh and another thing, some of these such as the brothers’ mental struggles would start to show up post-canon
Another note, the outfits they’re wearing in this drawing aren’t their initial outfits that they’d be wearing, their outfits would change frequently!
Keep in mind, for those who aren’t familiar with the lore, this’ll tackle heavy subject matter (more specifically child abuse and its effects). This isn’t exactly something you see much in my art, but in addition with wanting to write more, I also want to practice on tackling heavy topics too to prepare myself for bigger projects one day. I feel it’s important to address these issues and this can help people who are struggling to feel less alone with what they’re dealing with. However, if a topic is triggering for you, you don’t have to read it!
I get really nervous with my writing in general. It isn’t something I’ve really done consistently compared to illustrations and characters, but I want to be better with that and incorporate more writing in my art, since that’s what I want to do more! I want to tell stories! I feel like the way I like to do that the most is through comics! Will I get the motivation to draw more of them? We’ll just wait and see!
