I love bringing my books wherever I go 🌿
This is my current read and my first time reading Dracula which is crazy considering I love vampires so much!! It is almost spooky season so I have dedicated the month of August to only read vampire books. August is also my birth month so it is a treat for me as well because like I said I love vampires. Love You To Death reminds me of Dracula and the movie Nosferatu plus it's one of my all time favorite songs so please listen to it if you haven't! (Re-reading Carmilla is next) 🥀🥀🥀
I was in a reading slump for 3 years but before that happened I loved books more than anything and when I was in school I almost saw it as a competition. We had a points system set up and every kid had to have a certain amount of points in order to receive a good grade in English class. But a few of us including myself wanted to be at the top with the most points. I got in the habit of flying through a book and moving on to the next. After I graduated I still had this mentality- that I need to be able to finish a book within a few days. I'd watch booktube and later on some booktok as well and all of these people were reading 100+ books a year and that shouldn't have mattered to me so much but it did. There was that competitive mentality coming back out again and eventually I just didn't want to read anymore.
Fast forward a few years and my motivation for reading came back. I started reading Hungerstone by Kat Dunn and I truly loved it. I didn't want it to end. I didn't care if it took me months to finish I just wanted to savor it. I ended up finishing it within a week and a half or so. But I would sit with my thoughts about the moral of the story and the inner battles the characters fought, how that related to my life and the world around me. I would journal and make playlists. I took it all in, absorbed it until I felt like I truly understood more than what the pages told me. There are a lot more to books then we think and if you take the time to savor it you might just enjoy reading again. I don't view reading as just a way to pass the time anymore I view it as an experience. So my advice to you is whether you're in a reading slump or not: take the time to take it all in. Even if it's just a day before picking up another book. Give it a chance, form a connection with the literature that you just read. Because at the end of the day reading is a hobby and you should love doing it. There's no reason to rush
I'm starting Dracula by Bram Stoker today and somehow I've never read it and have zero clue what it's about other than the obvious. I love horror classics and would love some recommendations :)
The urge to not buy every single book I want is so hard. Thank God for libraries
How scary can a mother in law be? I think I already have a PRETTY good idea but let's find out!!
Edit: I just finished this book and only one word can describe it: weird!
I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate and also recommend this version of the audiobook. It is my first ever dramatized audiobook and wow it's really immersive! The voice acting is incredible and I really recommend listening to it while you read along- or just going about your day. It's totally worth it in my opinion!
So glad to be out of my multiple year reading slump but I've come to realize anything under 8 books a month is child's play
The Southern Book Clubs Guide to Slaying Vampires is my current Summerween read 🎃🍁👻
