So I think that since I am unable to get on here every single day, instead of a third person narrative, I will do a first hand account. I know people say blogs are basically online journals anyway. I'll look at it like my notes for when I write my auto biography. Lol. I think I'll do some pictures today too since I missed a couple days on here and IT'S SNOWING!!!
Now THIS is the kind of Burger fit for an Alaskan!!! If only it were Moose meat.....sigh

DAY FIVE:
"Holy crap it's cold out here!" Tiffany thought to herself as she sat down on the little wood and metal bench right outside their front door. Orie jumped up on the bench and sat next to her, nuzzling her in agreement. A-blast of wind came howling through and he jumped back down and disappeared through the cat door. Even he wasn't crazy enough to stay out in this mess.
But Tiffany wasn't quite ready to go back inside yet. It was 9:30 in the morning, everyone had woken up about 30 minutes ago and Tiffany was hiding outside smoking a bowl, putting off starting her day. She couldn't let herself think of all the things she had ahead of her to do, it was much too overwhelming. Right now she would finish her safety meaning and go inside and start breakfast for the girls. That was as far ahead as she could think. Besides, this Winter wind was already starting to get to even her and it was only October.
Suddenly Tiffany was yanked back into reality as a scooby snack hit the back of her throat and she started coughing! Blech! She spit and sputtered until she managed to cough it out. "Uugghh, time to go make breakfast."
DAY FOUR:
Wednesday nights were always spent watching The Wall with grandma. The baby was already in bed and the kitchen was already mostly cleaned up. That NEVER happened.
Tiffany was falling asleep where she sat. This job could be exhausting. She was a live in cargiver for her best friend's 94 year old grandmother. She was on the clock for 120 hours per week cooking, cleaning and generally just keeping the house running. She did the laundry, made the grocery lists, administered grandma's medication, made sure she took her weekly shower, kept her fed and kept her safe. Having Tiffany's one-year old daughter there seemed to be very therapeutic for her as well.
Baby Avah was an Auburn haired little angel with Trisomy 21 Down Syndrome and a smile that lit up the sky. Grandma was very focused on her whenever she was around. As a mother of 6, it was something that was so engrained in her that the dementia hadn't stolen it away yet. She played with the baby and sang with the baby and held the baby. Ever since they'd moved in to care for her, grandma's emotional spirals had become less and less. It was really amazing. The age gap was almost 94 years, but they could relate to each other in so many ways.
Lost in thought, Tiffany was startled when a black cat landed in her lap. Orie! Her handsome kitty man. Her and her best friend Candice found him 17 years prior. A little girl at a gas station stood in the freezing Palmer wind holding these 2 tiny little kittens, all 3 of them shivering as her parents sat in the warm truck. How could they say no to that? Well, it turns out they couldn't and they ended up taking them both. There was a gray one that Tiffany named Smokey and eventually had to give away, and then there was Orie who ended up in the lap of luxury at grandma's and had been there for 17 years. She gave him some scratches behind the ears and a kiss on top of his head. He gave her a nuzzle, jumped off her lap and headed over to his favorite spot in front of the fireplace. She loved that old man. It would break her heart when he was gone.
DAY THREE:
It was about 9:15 when Tiffany pulled up to the meeting in her freshly washed little red Dodge Avenger. She was so proud of this car. She'd worked her butt off and saved and saved to be able to afford it. $5600 and a new windshield later, it was all hers.
As she pulled in, she checked her rearview mirror. Just as she'd hoped, *Rick was there. His big white truck pulling a trailer so big he had to park in the back of the lot was unmistakable. As was the loud rock music blaring from partially rolled down windows. She smiled to herself. She felt excited. She'd just gotten her hair done that day and was looking cute in her purple leggings and matching tie-dyed "Alaska" hoodie. Unfortunately that excitement quickly faded when SHE walked by.
*Tara was actually very similar looking to Tiffany. The both hard dark brown hair and big brown eyes. But, though Tiffany's face was much prettier, Tara was skinnier, shorter, had longer hair, and was loud and obnoxious. Those seemed to be the type of girls to get the guys around here. Well, between that and her ex crush Saul being there chatting up someone who could pass for a Halloween yard decoration, Tiffany decided she was done for the day and didn't feel like having it rubbed in her face that once again, she just wasn't good enough. As she drove home in the dark and the silence she thought to herself. About all the times she'd been overlooked, rejected, abandoned. She thought about all the times she'd been told by men that they didn't want to be in a relationship only to then turn around and be with the next girl who was somehow "better" than her. Well meaning (but not single) friends would tell her to stop looking so hard and the right guy would come a long. They would tell her she just had to work on herself or be happy being alone first. Well that's easy to say while you're lying next to your partner typing that to me from the comfort of your shared bed. She thought about how she wasn't getting any younger and God had made it pretty clear that she was meant to be alone. She thought "Ok God, I hear you. I give up."
*Names have been changed to protect, well, my ego. I could gaf less about their privacy lol.
DAY TWO:
"Happy Alaska Day!" she posted to her Facebook wall. Technically it was the day before on October 18th, but for some reason public celebrated the next day. It was hard enough to keep track as each day blended in to the next. She did know, however, that today was Monday, her day off. Well, sort of. There was still the usual weekly errands and therapy sessions for her daughter. Baby Avah had Trisomy 21 Down Syndrome and had to attend physical and occupational therapy every week. It could get exhausting but that little girl was worth all of it.
Later that night, after a much needed and very elusive 2 hour nap, Tiffany and Avah got up and got dressed for the AA meeting. Tiffany had been attending AA and NA meetings 13 years now after realizing she was a full blown heroin addict at the age of 23. Sadly, she was a late bloomer compared to the people she was hanging out with at the time.
As they headed out to the car, she thought how grateful she was for how far she'd come. She was so glad she wasn't in that life anymore and never had to be again.

DAY ONE: She stood at the stove poking a baked potato with her fork. "God, my back," she thought to herself. It crackled like bubble wrap as she twisted her body around, hunching over in a desperate attempt to stretch out her vertebra. She always felt like she'd be at least a couple inches taller, if she could just make time to look for a good chiropractor. Her feet ached. She knew she should be wearing tennis shoes, but this house was so damn hot! That's what happens when you live with a 94 year old. She could feel the darkness at her back quickly swooping in and she turned to gaze out of the giant South facing windows. Today was the first day of snow! October 18, 2020. She thought about her mother whose birthday was in 2 days. Mom always wished for snow on her birthday every year. She quickly shut those thoughts off and turned to happier ones. She loved how quiet and settled the snow turned everything; like God fluffing a giant blanket over us all and tucking us safely into bed. She walked back to the kitchen and the stuck the potatoes back in the oven. They weren't quite ready yet. As she leaned on the counter mindlessly checking her Facebook, the demanding squawk of a one year old baby pulled her back into reality. She sighed as she went to the livingroom. "A woman's work is never done."
