HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!!!!!!!
June of last year, I celebrated the beginning of pride month with @taylorswift in Chicago, listening to her dedicate her delicate speech to the LGBTQ+ community at night 2. At that point I was very much in the closet and struggling to accept myself, wondering if I would ever have the courage to be my authentic, unapologetic self. Hearing that speech gave me the confidence I needed, feeling that my best friend and hero since I was 7 was behind me, supporting me. Even though Taylor was talking to the whole of sold out Soldier Field, it felt like she was talking directly to me.
At the end of the month, I came out to my close friends, posting on twitter and tumblr. All of the incredible people I have in my life because of Taylor and her music couldn’t have been more supportive of me, and I know that they all love me exactly the same. Coming out, even though I am still going through that process and owning myself more everyday, has done wonders on my mental and physical health. I feel more confident than ever, now that i’ve let go of a lot of that fear and hesitation that comes from associating your identity to anything other than straight or cis. I have Taylor to thank for this. I wouldn’t have had the courage without her.
Taylor, waking up today to see you supporting the Equality Act so boldly means the world to me and so many others. Not only are you telling some of your most loyal and loving fans that you love them and have their backs (just like we love you and have yours) you are using your voice for the better to make real change. I couldn’t be more proud of you. I feel lucky to be a fan of yours every single day, but especially right now. I will never be able to thank you enough for everything you have done for me personally, and also the community as a whole.
I will never stop loving and supporting you, and can’t wait to listen to the new album already 😉
