Quanah Parker was the last chief of the Quahadi Comanche and the son of Cynthia Ann Parker, a white woman captured by the Comanche as a child who chose to stay with them. He led the final resistance against the U.S. Army on the Staked Plains and was the last Comanche leader to surrender in 1875.

After the wars ended, he became one of the wealthiest ranchers in the territory, built a house called Star House near Cache, Oklahoma, and advised President Theodore Roosevelt on matters of Indian affairs. He never stopped being Comanche.

He walked between two worlds and owned both. ⚡

The Pinnacle is widely considered the best view on the Pennsylvania stretch of the Appalachian Trail, looking out over the Lehigh Valley farmland from a jumble of quartzite blocks. Most people hike it as a loop with Pulpit Rock, about nine miles total, and Pulpit Rock has an astronomical observatory operated by a local amateur society right on the ridge. This is also Hawk Mountain country, where the autumn raptor migration funnels along the Kittatinny Ridge. Pennsylvania hikers call this section Rocksylvania for good reason, and this loop is where you find out why.
