Done for the Month of Fear 2017 second week, “shiver.”

I really enjoy doing the Month of Fear/Love challenges, because they give me an excuse to try things I don’t normally do. Er, yes, I could just do them anyway with my own stuff, but… I don’t, for some reason. So it’s great as an impetus.

Three guesses what kind of thing I was trying with this one, and the first two don’t count. ;)

DAI writer 2: Great idea! Should we tell the player at any point that Celene set fire to an alienage that was starting to rebel against her rule? And also literally had Briala's parents killed to make herself look innocent of Emperor Florian's assassination?

DAI writer 1: No...... no, I don't think that's relevant. Besides, if we put all this story content in the game itself then they won't give us the money from book sales!

Done for the Month of Fear challenge, “Shiver”.

The saints cannot distinguish between being with other people and being alone: another good reason for becoming one.

They live in trees and eat air. Staring past or through us, they see things which we would call not there. We, on the contrary, see them.

They smell of old fur coats stored for a long time in the attic. When they move they ripple. Two of them passed here yesterday, filled and vacated and filled by the wind, like drained pillows blowing across a derelict lot, their twisted and scorched feet not touching the ground, their feathers catching in thistles. What they touched emptied of colour.

Whether they are dead or not is a moot point. Shreds of they litter history, a hand here, a bone there: is it suffering or goodness that makes them holy, or can anyone tell the difference?

Though they pray, they do not pray for us. Prayers peel off them like burned skin healing. Once they tried to save something, others or their own souls. Now they seem to have no use, like the colours on blind fish. Nevertheless, they are sacred.

They drift through the atmosphere, their blue eyes sucked dry by the ordeal of seeing, exuding gaps in the landscape as water exudes mist. They blink and reality shivers.

Writing about dragons and ice zombies did not make George R.R. Martin either of those things.

Writing about rich heiresses, socially awkward bachelors, and cougar widows did not make Jane Austen any of those things.

Writing about people who can control earthquakes did not make N.K. Jemisin able to control earthquakes.

Writing about your favorite characters and/or ships in situations that you choose does not make you a bad person.

It’s a shame that in this day and age these things need to be said.

you know what I really love self insert culture… I love the “tag urself I’m…” trend, I love the “look at my bf/gf/bff/..” trend when reblogging pics of your faves and saying stuff like “this is a picture of our first date…” etc etc, I love that self- or reader-insert fics and fanart exist and that people make all these reactions/imagines and whatever else, because it means you’re recognizing yourself and you’re deeming yourself worthy of inserting yourself in the universes you love so much and let yourself interact with the people you look up to and it makes me smile when I see ppl talking about themselves so idgaf if others call any of that cringey because i think it’s a nice tool for us to get closer to ourselves and to put ourselves out there and even if it’s in a sarcastic or slightly negative way you’re still talking about yourself and your feelings and that’s a Good Thing imo
