NO LONGER ACTIVE

This has been on my mind for a while, but I’ve finally come to the conclusion that it’s best I step back from the tmnt fandom.

I knew going into it and making videos on tiktok would lead to an unhealthy obsession with creating and engaging in fandom content, to the point that I’d completely neglect my original art and other matters in my life. But I did so anyway for the momentary satisfaction that fandom brings.

But in truth, it has been eating at me that I am unable to focus my time nor energy toward my original work, and now it dawns on me that nearly an entire year has passed & that is a lot of time that has been wasted. Yes, it was fun, and I’m glad my work was able to bring some enjoyment to others, and that I was able to enjoy others’ work as well…..but ultimately, it has kept me trapped in place in terms of where I want to be in life.

I need to get back to creating original artwork, so I can build my business and really start toward the life/future I want.

I’ll always have a love for tmnt; that much is clear. I mean, I’ve loved them for the better part of 28 years, so I know they’ll always be a special interest of mine. But I need to keep that love contained, for my own sake, and not spend my time interacting as much with the fandom as I have been.

Not that I don’t care for you guys (you’ve been awesome tbh). It’s just that I lack the ability to focus my energy toward two things at once, and in this case, my dreams, my career, and my future livelihood have to come first. Sorry if this is a disappointment to anyone.

I really did want to create a comic for my tmnt iteration. Maybe someday I will, once I am further along with building my business. But really, I know that’s likely wishful thinking & it would be better to put my time toward original comics rather than fan comics, if I am to do any at all.

I might still draw my turtles on occasion and post them here (no promises though). And I will probably check in to maybe look at fanart occasionally. I may also randomly update my current fanfics, if only because I sometimes use writing as an outlet. But aside from that, I will no longer be very active on here, so please do not expect any prompt replies should you message me or tag me in anything.

The tmnt fan iteration blog still has a bit more scheduled, but I probably won’t reblog anything else there once it catches up, as I won’t be on here enough to look for new iteration posts.

Kudos to anyone who has actually read all of this. Sorry I tend to ramble. Didn’t want to leave any unanswered questions. Sorry if this all seems pretty sudden (it’s been a long time coming for me).

Alright, what’s the lair like?

Well, here’s a really rough sketch. It’s pretty basic. Essentially, Splinter found an empty open space in an area of sewers that’s no longer in use.

Over time, he would add to it with old appliances found in the trash/dump/abandoned homes and apartments. His experience as a maintenance worker really came in handy, but he wasn’t as well versed in technology or construction, so it took a lot of trying and failing before the lair actually looked and functioned like a home.

The space was originally all open. Splinter built walls to create separate bedrooms and a functioning kitchen.

The old drainage pool in the corner became a step-down lounge area, where there’s an old couch and some hand-made bag chairs, as well as a tv and probably some old videogame system too.

Between the lounge area and the kitchen is an open space that the family uses for training, since they don’t have a separate dojo.

The bathroom is just outside of the main lair, at the south entrance/exit (I forgot to sketch it). It has a functioning toilet and an old bathtub, as well as some basic medical supplies.

There’s no medbay, as Splinter didn’t raise his sons with the intention of them fighting and potentially getting seriously injured. (He may have to build one on in the future though…)

Raph’s bedroom used to be a storage closet that they (mostly Donnie) used to stash anything they’d find on their outings. But when Raph joined the family (around age 9), they converted it to a bedroom. He has to walk through Donnie’s room to get to his own, but it works.

The lair overall is a mishmash of scavenged parts and old appliances. It’s not fancy by any means, but it is functional. For the most part.

Ehhh it’s a work in progress. But yeah, this is the basic idea for the lair. I’ll eventually have to do some actual designs, but I’ll worry about that when I get to it.

I project most onto Raph and Donnie, I think. If you wanna know more specifics, I answered in the previous ask here.

As for the medic, it’s primarily Splinter who takes care of injuries, as he is the adult. However, he’s taught all his sons most of what he knows just in case they ever need it. So they can all do the more basic stuff, at least.

Aside from Splinter, Raph actually knows the most about medical treatment, as he has more experience with injuries than his brothers. He usually treats his own wounds (and sometimes Casey’s) but typically makes his brothers go to Splinter. He’ll play the medic if absolutely necessary, but he doesn’t have enough confidence to do so regularly for his siblings.

Who do I project onto the most?

Definitely Raph and Donnie. I’m sure I’ve probably given the others some of my traits too, but these two certainly take the most.

These two do share some qualities, but I also project separately onto them too. Don is primarily my curiosity and desire to learn more about everything….but also just my autism in general. Raph is primarily the manifestation of my more negative traits.

But they’re also both pretty different from me too. So even though I project parts of myself onto them, they’re still their own characters!

I have several I am very curious about for your iteration, 🧪 Where does the mutagen come from? 🧫 Were your turtles mutated intentionally or on accident? 💚 Are there other turtles in your au? 🥷 Is there a Timothy in your au?

The origins of the mutagen are unknown as of now (that is to say, the origins will become known at some point in the story, probably in a later part of the story).

My turtles’ mutation was 100% intentional. They were a part of a secret project: Project Renaissance (or the Renaissance Project, either way, same thing)

This was a scientific project that involved injecting mutagen into the fertilized eggs of different turtle species in attempts to hatch mutants.

The successful subjects (aka the ones that survived) were given the names of renaissance artists. This also helped for the scientists and those involved to discuss the project to some extent in public (working under the guise of a renaissance art restoration project at the museum the lab was hidden beneath).

Yes, Artemisia (Raph’s biological sister) plays a big role in the story!

And there will be other mutants as well! But I have yet to decide exactly which ones I will be bringing into this iteration, so as for other unrelated turtles, I am not yet sure.

As of now, I have no solid plans for writing Timothy into the story. That doesn’t mean he can’t/won’t make an appearance though. If I can find a way to wiggle canon characters into my iteration in a way that doesn’t distract from the story, I will.

If I do end up adding him, he’ll likely be a connection through Donnie somehow.

I’m considering the possibility of Casey getting mutated (into a raccoon, because he is a feisty trash panda at heart), but that’s not a solid decision yet. But if he does get mutated, it won’t be until later on in the series.

The main villain is Agent Bishop. At least, he will be the main antagonist in the first part of the comic I intend to make. He will appear to be the one running things, but the situation is much more complex than it first seems. There will be other villains at play….

Nope! This purple turtle has a vast array of interests. He can and will get lost in books and the internet while learning about anything and everything. While he’s great with technology and works with it more than most things, he’s also good at pretty much anything else he tries and knows a lot of random facts about other subjects.

Splinter was a human prior to mutation! He was a Japanese immigrant who had opened a dojo in NYC and taught advanced martial arts (ninja weaponry). He also worked part time as a maintenance man around the city (which led to him accidentally stumbling upon a secret laboratory while doing maintenance at an art museum.)
